Stop it. Don't do this to yourself.

They wouldn't waste such good talent on Knack 2...

God that is so fake. But I still want to see another Playstation crossover game... With more third-party characters (none of them are gonna play ball though). It's Playstation's 20th anniversary this year though, so who knows.

Out of curiosity, if The Last Guardian had to die so that the staff stuck working on that game could move on to work on Project Beast, would you consider that a fair trade?

With the way that the studio seems to work, no one was ever really stuck working on the game (aside from maybe Fumito who is the creator and not even a Sony employee anymore) since people who worked on previous Team ICO projects have been placed on other Japan Studio games in the years since the initial reveal. It was even said a while ago that at some point last year, priority was placed on Puppeteer and Knack over The Last Guardian for some time. I'm really wondering how the TLG post-mortem is going to look and just what happened to the game during the development cycle.

PS2 ICO 1 million, Colossus close to 2 million.

Thanks for digging up those numbers. On as high of install base as the PS2 had, how can anyone expect TLG to do close to those numbers?

I mean, isn't the PS4 tracking pretty bad in Japan, where the teams games likely sell more?

I don't know. Like I said before, and I'll stop harping on this, I just don't think TLG is as big of a deal as some think/hope it is. I'll stop now.

As far as I recall, the individual games and collection sold better outside of Japan.

Word of mouth helps a lot with game sales nowadays... and it'd sort of be the first game that "Team ICO" has out since social media/YouTube exploded on the Internet.

I think Watch_Dogs sales have proven people are still thirsty for PS4 games. by the time SoC launched, PS2 had a massive library which may have diluted its sales. If they can get it out this year while there's still a drought of AAA games, I think it could potentially break 1 million.

I am interested in what the actual situation of the game is. And while "officially canceled" and "in cryosleep, waiting to see if someone in Sony moves staff and money back to the project" are different, it's a pretty narrow line between the two from a consumer perspective. If the game doesn't get mentioned at all during E3 this year, at what point do we actually say it's not, practically speaking, a real game?
When Ueda stops going to work.

People can speculate about a grand Sony deception all they want, but no one is paying Ueda to hang around the office and pretend he has a game to make.

Maybe Sony would never outright cancel it, maybe they'd say "It's a had a troubled development, and we'll putting it on the shelf for now", or whatever, but as long as they are reiterating the game is in development, and Ueda is there, there's no reason to believe it's not happening.

I don't think any of these games fans think these are multi-million record sales blockbusters. It is a big deal for each one of us individually though.

So have we still not been able to pinpoint the original Russian sources for this?

Although it's a ridiculous idea that Sony Russia would hold some internal meeting that identified TLG as being cancelled like 2 days before E3. That's insane

Umm, where did you get those numbers?

ICO figures from old Japanese official site (700k) and the rest from an SCEE press release after the game's reprinting in 2006 for Colossus' release.

Colossus sold enough copies for Platinum release in Europe and Greatest Hits in America.

Can you prove Ueda is actually there?

Kev, you shall regret your words and deeds by Tuesday.
I hope or this post won't be as dramatic.

Am I the only person who has no interest at all in this game?

I think there are tons of people who are not interested and who... WHOA, they actually didn't comment in the thread because this kind of comment adds nothing to the discussion!

It's a big deal within the hardcore gaming community, which is the most vocal group on the internet. In the real world, it's not a big deal. Your average COD/Madden teenage gamer is probably not talking about TLG with their friends. Most probably don't even know the existence of such a game.

I'm scared to go asleep for fear that I'll wake up to another "Last Guardian Cancelled" rumour. I hope there's a light at the end of this tunnel of anguish. Oh Trico, you have my nerves shot.

Yeah, people often have a fuzzy picture of the impact of different franchises. Games that sell less than 2m worldwide are not system sellers. Team ICO games exist mostly as prestige projects, one part of a bigger effort by Sony to attract customers with distinguished tastes (and a part that's probably less important that it used to be now that PS4 is the IndieStation.)

The audience for The Last Guardian is composed of fairly dedicated core gamers. There's enough of those people to make the game a worthwhile production, but not to make it an absolute top-tier announcement.

It's hard to gauge how hyped people are for this particular game from them though. This game is famous, with half the reason because its so elusive and mysterious. I think this could very well be a bigger game than Shadow or ICO in terms of sales.

Wait. My remark was intended to agree with yours. IGN could not have picked a worse time to pound their little tin fists on their desks and demand an answer...right before they ran out of the office to drink Shirley Temples at the local Applebees and party into the wee hours of the night.

Alright at least we on the same page unlike IGN.

Yep, plus these games earn accolades and industry awards all across the board. That sends a very powerful message.

If Ueda wasn't at the Sony office, how did he waste his time at the office playing Clash of Clans?

Checkmate, atheists.

He hasn't updated this since.

To All Interested Parties:

As some of you may have heard, I left Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Studio some time ago to pursue my creative passions. Nevertheless, I continue working on THE LAST GUARDIAN as a freelance contributor.

While it’s been a long time coming, THE LAST GUARDIAN remains under my creative supervision and is still in development by an incredibly talented team.

I should also mention that details regarding THE LAST GUARDIAN's release is solely decided by Sony Computer Entertainment, not myself. Please keep an eye out for their official announcement.

Moving forward, it is my intent to continue my involvement with THE LAST GUARDIAN project, as well as pursue new creative projects with a fresh perspective. As I rekindle my passions as a creator, I look forward to seeing where it will take me, and I deeply appreciate your support during this transition.
