I'm very happy they decided to change it up with the setting rather than sticking to the dark medieval fantasy which I feel has been played out.

Can't wait until we get proper gameplay footage. I do hope now that this will be a new franchise that they genuinely try to stray from the formula of their previous Souls games as much as they can. I really want something new this time.

The description in the OP definitely makes it sound like something Souls fans will find familiar and appealing, even if it's not formally part of the series. Making it a new IP gives them more creative freedom and makes them less beholden to another series' conventions, which is the same reasoning that lead to Demon's Souls not being a King's Field game.

I like that it's had a longer development cycle than either Dark Souls game, assuming they finished the DLC in May/June 2012 and started working on it immediately after.

Bloodborne is the cover story of this week's Famitsu, and there's an interview with Miyazaki in it as well. Here are some details reported by a Japanese blog who got the magazine early.

- Spring 2015 release window
- They started work on this right after finishing Artorias of the Abyss, planning it for Sony's new hardware
- The world and story is completely new, and the setting takes full advantage of the PS4's capabilities
- The expected spec for the game is 30fps at 1080p
- The keywords for the game is "blood" and "beast"
- There will be melee and long range weapons (guns) this time
- Character customization is confirmed
- There will be no map display in the game
- He wants combat to not just focus on action but also the strategic element
- The combat in the game is designed to feel like a life or death struggle
- There will be online elements of some sort, and it will involve players "discovering" together

Edit: In case anyone missed it earlier, here's the official game blurb from Sony: http://www.playstation.com/en-us/games/bloodborne-ps4

Engage HYPErdrive, full speed ahead.

I don't know why people care for character creation. They'll look like abominations in this game anyways
and thats before you "die" and look even worse.

Your spoiler isn't a given, that's really the signature of the Dark Souls series and might not be the case at all depending on the explanation given for resurrection in this one.

Loving this. Souls was only fun for me playing with friends. Watching your friends get insta-gibbed or mis-time a jump or just plainly get fucked over by a mob provided me with some of the greatest gaming memories of all time.

That sounds good, I wanted a 4 player co op game. Just wish it was set in medieval Japan though.

Well this sounds horrible to me.

The least enjoyable part of a Souls is when someone's around. It becomes a shallow experience.

Also I like playing at my own pace.Co-op doesn't allow that.

Firstly, there will be more Souls games. Secondly, Sony wants whole ownership of the new franchise, and it's not that hard to launch a new IP if the audience wants the game.

Every Souls fan is going to know what Bloodborne is.

Holy shit.

I need this issue so bad.

EDIT - (2014 06/26) That's the issue, correct? I'm about to place an order. I'm expecting artwork/images in it, that would look great in my Souls collection.

That should be the correct issue. Dengeki Playstation Vol.568 (also out this week) will also have a cover story for Bloodborne if you're looking to collect more stuff.

Might want to make sure it has the right cover if you're ordering online: http://www.famitsu.com/news/201406/10054828.html

I don't get why they didn't just continue the "Souls" naming trend.

With that whole "blood drop" scene starting off the CG trailer, plus the name, I'm guessing that blood will play the same sort of role in Bloodborne that souls did in the Souls series.

Fuck co-op for this game.

Hope the single player experience doesn't suffer.

Same reason Demon's Souls wasn't "King's Field V: Souls of Boletaria." It's not actually part of the Souls series even though it's driven by a lot of the same ideas.

Souls could often become shallow in co-op because it was primarily balanced as a single player game. Summoning help was a temporary trump card, and relatively little of the game was designed to compensate for it.

That won't necessarily be the case for Bloodborne. At the very least, I'm expecting some areas and enemies to change when you have multiple players, in addition to interesting PvP stuff like the Old Monk, Gravelording, Rat Covenant, bells in Dark Souls II, etc. Hell, maybe we'll get asynchronous co-op as well.

VERY excited for this game. Love the setting and atmosphere of the trailer. Can't wait to see more. 30fps is a non-issue for me.

To avoid confusion with the other Souls games like Dark Souls?

And it's not a Souls game.

It's not a Souls game.

I would imagine that Sony feels that Dark Souls has taken up that moniker to such a degree that it's not worth making that link anymore.

Seems like only yesterday people were shouting me down for saying there wouldn't be a Demon's Souls 2. I guess no one is arguing that anymore?

To each their own. I don't want a Copy Paste formula of the Souls series, im wanting them to experiment with this game and do things that wouldn't dare do with the Souls series.

yeah. They could certainly innovate great coop ideas.

But as far as Souls go, I wasn't too fond of Co-op for the reasons you mentioned and also because I am generally not a fan of coop in these highly atmospheric games.

Fantastic, this could actually be a competent spiritual successor to the Souls games (minus Dark Souls 2 lol). I'll buy a PS4 when this comes out.

Well, it depends on what you meant. Plenty of people were expecting a Souls-like game by From and Sony Japan Studios, which is exactly what DemonNite had alluded to and exactly what we're getting. Not everyone had their heart set on a direct sequel to Demon's Souls.

I almost wish I didn't have a PS4 so that I could buy a PS4 for this. Fucking awesome. This and No Man's Sky really just reminded me of why I love Sony.

Either that, or they don't want to associate this game with the bad taste Dark Souls 2 left in the mouths of a large part of the Souls fanbase. Probably both.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
That sounds great. Though I hope it can stay at 30fps most of the time. Most anticipated PS4 game by far.
