Dead Island 2 Announced (Yager/Deep Silver, UE4, Spring 2015)

Not at all hyped for dying light, but would love me some dead island 2. Earned every damn achievement in the first one. Riptide was decent but still enjoyed the first better.

The one thing that puts me off in Dying Light is the run & hide element in the night sequences, as I usually don't care about that kind of gameplay mechanics.

IMA BOMB AND I'M BOUT TO BLOW UP.

Still makes me laugh. I just hope this doesn't suck like the first one.

I personally think the first one was great, even with all of its flaws. Took me 47 hours to play through it alone, and I'm going to play the next one alone as well. It's more survival horror that way.

Not counting MGSV this is my favorite trailer so far from e3.
love that they are straight going for a more goofy tone than that of DI1. Like others I enjoyed that game even with its problems. So if yager can bring a lot of it back but more polished ill be happy. Also cant believe people are still wondering why it has a sequel. DI 1 sold a shit ton so much so that it was actually sold out in places until deep silver coukd put out more shipments. It basically put them on the map as a publisher I like to say.

The original slowmo trailer that had people up in arms didn't do anything for me, but this one was great.

Definitely the best CG trailer of the night.

I can make out the words "One Bicep"

Well I've no interest in this, having played the first one (eugh), but you've got to hand it to these guys, they do know how to make an effective trailer. At least this one is more in keeping with the general tone of the games.

I really liked this trailer but I thought the game was going to immediately suck... until I saw Yager developing instead of Techland. It could still suck but at least we can get a good developer working on it.

Seems like they're going for a more light hearted vibe to stand out from the rest of the zombie games ala Dead rising. I don't know about riptide but the "dramatic" parts of the first games were so poorly done. Characters you were supposed to feel for I didn't get a crap about.

Yeah, the cutscenes and voice-acting were pretty substandard, but I hope they won't change the atmosphere of the game into too light-hearted direction.

No, you have an awful developer that can write an ok story. The gameplay of spec ops: the line was terrible. Unless you're thinking of a different game.

It's a bicep implant. It's funny cause by the end of the trailer, we learn that he's the owner of a gym that's trying to sell you the body that you deserve.

Best trailer of E3 for me. Loved the style and the music just got me buying the mp3. Never played Dead Island 1 but will keep my eyes peeled (!) for this

I really liked Dead Island 1 until I left the resort area. I just lost interest at the city; not as pretty nor as open/interesting to explore, in my opinion. So, I'm cautiously optimistic about Dead Island 2.

This announcement confused the hell out of me. I thought Dying Light was basically a next gen Dead Island. Now there IS a next gen Dead Island and it's releasing within the next year?

This, magicka 2, and bloodbourne were the beat trailers to me at e3. Hope they reveal what's different from the first and second soon

This is exactly how I felt too. I was so confused when the game was announced. And I think Dying Light is slated for February 2015, while they're saying Dead Island 2 is probably Spring 2015. Weird how close together that is.

I'm not sure why this game even exists. The first Dead Island was below mediocrity. Riptide was downright shitty.

Still, a very nice trailer. And I am willing to change my mind when game play surfaces.

Same thoughts here. The trailer for the first game was also amazing though, and it led to me buying the game, which turned out to be shit. So it seems they can make trailers but not games.

isn't this the same studio that's making Dying Light? so we have Dying Light AND Dead Island 2 in 2015?

I've tried to explain it earlier in the thread:

Dead Island - owned by Deep Silver, the original and Riptide developed by Techland.

Dying Light - owned by Techland, developed by Techland.

So yeah. Techland came up with Dead Island but it is now a Deep Silver franchise and they have no say in how it develops.

What you have here is basically two Dead Island 2 games duking it out.

Dying light IS next gen Dead Island. This is Saints Island, which isn't a bad thing.

OHHH i just thought of something if this is on UE4 I would bet money that Saints Row 5 is as well. I hope they take their time with it. It's going to be glorious.

huh, a new dev for this IP? This is very interesting.

I wonder what happened here between Deep Silver and Techland. Dead Island is Techland biggest hit so far yet they went to WB publish Dying Light (Techland hold the IP) which is very similar to Dead Island.

Does Techland decided to pull a From/Dark Souls (Releasing Dark Souls after Sony's Demon's Souls) to have more control and profit from their game and this got Deep Silver upset or was it Deep Silver who maybe didn't want to keep working with Techland after the very poor reception for Riptide.

If I'm remembering right. After Dead Island was completed, that team at Techland that worked on it decided to start working on Dyling Light while another team within Techland started on Riptide. My guess is sometime around here, they decided they needed a new Dead Island 2 and got a different company to work on it since Techland was most likely pushing to work faster on Dying Light. Just a guess but sounds about right.

Also have they show any actual gameplay yet?

Loved Dead Island and Riptide, great games basically because of their combat which I thoroughly enjoyed. Very interested to see what Yager can do with the franchise.
