Max leveled just now. The Strike mission was fun, but oh my god is it grindy with those bosses. Very exhilarating though.

Final thoughts:
I wasn't interested in this game at all before this. Now I might be all in.

That was my opinion at first as well, however, once you get some gear at lvl 8 the bosses become way less grindy.

I think the main issue is that the drop chance on loot is pretty low for the first few levels, so you'll be doing shitty damage.

Did both offerings on the Legendary difficulty and it was quite a challenge. The Server end boss is a bit frustrating because of all the Knights who keep rushing you but other than that, it's enjoyable.

Looking forward to the game, but definitely for the PvE only. The PvP sucks balls. There's a fallen ghost in there, that's it.

Really? I quite enjoyed the crucible. The lack of "power weapon" pickups is actually kind of nice and the classic halo cat and mouse maneuvering game seems to be intact.

That's probably what it was. I was level 7 when I hit the Strike at first. I'm maxed out now. May give it another whirl before it ends tonight.

Whenever I use the titans special move on enemies, the game says I generated a different number of light orbs. Anyone know what orbs of light do?

Your special creates orbs of light which other players can use to recharge their special faster. You generate based off how many enemies you kill with it. At least it seems that way to me.

Yeah that's definitely it. The judder is totally noticeable but it's hardly a deal-breaker, especially in an alpha.

I hope it's gone at launch.

Digital Foundry -

The frame-rate holds its target but frame-pacing issues interrupt the fluidity associated with a locked 30fps.

I think it maxes out at 3 light orbs possible for one kill with your Super Charged skill. I've killed 7-8 enemies at once and still only gotten it to say the line 3 times.

UK gaffer here, just noticed I received an email from PlayStation dated June 13 with an alpha code for this which made my weekend!

I am away from home at the moment, but have redeemed the code through web store and am downloading now to my PS4 so it is ready for when I get home on Tuesday -cant wait!

Will report the following weekend when I can give it the time I am sure it deserves..

Sorry buddy, don't quite know how to let you know but the alpha ends tonight :-(

Put in a few hours of playtime.
I'm glad to have played the alpha because I immediately went and preordered it.

Amazing looking/sounding game!
Love that speeder bike sound.

Level 8 with gear you are looking at 5 minutes, which is a little short imo. With the spider/crab just sitting there rotating I think it should take closer to 10. If that is bullet sponge territory then people need to reevaluate their perception of the game. I'm trying to remember on-level bosses in Borderlands with on-level gear. They were just as bullet spongey, no?

Jesus, that sounds boring as fuck. 10 minutes of that? No way. Hardcore doesn't have to mean time consuming for the sake of consuming time. That fight is easy no matter how you approach it because the attacks are so easy to dodge and the walker is stationary the whole fight.

I think two or three walkers, each with half the health of the big one, and that are much more mobile would add more challenge, more call for teamwork, and better pacing.

I wonder what all these Grimoire cards are for. Its seem to give you background on the lore of the games. But I feel like they may serve another function.

is there a map of old russia? or going to be in the final release?

The rough sketch you get when selecting earth from orbit is the best one I think. The drop zone marker for exploration is roughly where it drops you both for the very first mission and later for exploring. From there skywatch is out west, the rocketyards are east and forgotten shore is northwest.

It does really need a map you can pull up though.

Even at half health, with them coming after you, a team of three would get demolished. Especially if you still had all the grunts and whatnot pouring out.

It still isn't set up quite right, though. I found it hard to get ammo without respawning on purpose, and it took me ( level 5 ), another dude at level 6 and another at level 8 a good fifteen minutes to finish off the tank. Then a glitch happened where another dropped right on top of the dead one and here's the fight all over again. I bailed after I saw the level 8 guy do the same. That was disheartening.

Well! I just now realised that I received an email key yesterday and I didn't even sign up.

In approximately how many hours will the Alpha be closed, y'all? I'm down-under.

Cheers.

EDIT: Ah, seems as if it'll be done by the time I finish work tomorrow. No biggie.

The formula is all there, but it'd go a long way to improving the game if the AI were more... Intelligent I suppose. For an alpha, their behaviors are mostly passable. However, I never feel like they can kill me until I'm overwhelmed by them, and it's at that point where their large health bars completely overshadow any tactics they have. A high level enemy running up to me isn't a challenging opponent; it's a wall that absorbs bullets. Similarly, the bosses themselves only appear challenging because the grunts on the ground detach our focus from them. I've only died fighting Sepkis because the Captains will bottleneck me into the hallway we came from.

The Hive knight is probably the enemy I like fighting the most, because it uses cover and it regenerates its health if you shoot when its shield is up. The other ones either stand still or blindly rush you and don't offer much combat wise.

There are many clear improvements to be made balance-wise, but I hope the issue with Destiny's combat isn't so inherent that it wont be possible to improve.

dofry

That's "Dr." dofry to you.
Tried remote play from the balcony. Worked great but the sun was shining so couldn't see a damn thing indoors, barely outdoors in the game.
Button mapping was ok as the r3/L3 + special is mapped to the front touchscreen.
Running pressing down on the d-pad was a bit awkward first but better after 10 minutes.
I'll try from a friends house over the internet to see how it works later today if I have time before the test ends.

After dying about 5 times on the Old Russia map, I'm not sure I'm that enthused about Destiny. Of course, neither is Peter Dinklage. Guy sounds more bored about it....I kept waiting for him to say "Hi, my name is Peter Dinklage. You might know me as Tyron from Game of Thrones. I'm here because I was asked to show up and read some lines. Now if you excuse me, I have to go back to Game of Thrones and hope I survive through the next season."

I was hoping to see other people come in randomly during my playthrough. Basically a shared single player game (if that makes any sense). I guess I'll play more of it and hope to see more of the alpha.

Was vaguely interested before, but am now hooked after playing the alpha all day today and most of last night. Went and preordered it on Amazon and am locked in for the beta. Whoever called it Bungielands was pretty spot-on!

Any idea when the beta will start? Maybe August?

Nope. not 3. I have gotten 4 and 5. I think it's 5 though.

How many did you have to kill at one time to get 5?

I've jumped into the middle of the largest group I've seen in alpha, killed them all and only gotten 3 lol.

Never seen a companion throw out more then 3 either.

The section of the Strike mission where you are waiting for the cube to get rid of the laser barrier, killed 9 enemies at once during one of the raids and only got 3 orbs to drop for the others.

I think the amount you can create depends on The special maybe. I was just in a devils lair and got 4 & 5 in it. I nailed pretty huge groups though when I got those.

OK, I finally tried out the PS+ strike mission... still not sure I get this game. The first part of it was a mildly fun shooting gallery but then we got to one of the worst bosses I've seen in a long time. We spent a good 15 minutes whittling away at its absurdly huge health bar until I got bored and decided to get closer and throw a grenade, proceeded to get insta-killed by the beast's stomp, my teamments followed suit while trying to quickly revive me, and we had to start all over. I just quit, wasn't going through that again.

Overall that's my main problem with this game - the whole thing feels like a long string of filling progress bars by killing X number of grunts, scrounging for special ammo, and fighting the occasional enemy with way too much health. I don't understand how the people who made Halo could make this.

I had a ton of fun with Destiny this weekend and I'm looking forward to exploring more in the beta. Definitely on my radar, especially if my buddy buys a PS4 for Destiny.

What level were you guys? Just wondering because I've never had either boss take near that long to beat even on Legend.

When fighting the walker, shoot one of its legs until it blows up. This will cause the walker to expose its weak spot. Dump your bullets into that, and repeat. You don't really need to get close to it. It took my fire team maybe 5-7 minutes last night.

Question, is there an area map in old russia? After sometime playing I usually get lost because it's fucking huge.

Tried looking everywhere but saw no map...

Went back to tussle with the lvl 16 Hallowed Knight and this guy was here to greet me instead. 3 of us eventually pushed him off the cliff, then the Hallowed Knight respawned shortly afterwards.

Edit: Why do my exported PS4 screens look like poo? I used the save to USB feature, then sent it as an attachment via psn and saved but they still look like garbage.

As has been said, sorry man it ends tonight. The beta starts on July 17th for us

There's is a building somewhere where you can go to the floor below and there is a massive computer screen with the map on it and various routes to go from place to place. Really shoulda screenshotted it.

I really don't like the mini map though. Find it's quite bad

Is the beta only open to those who pre-order? Also, no progress carries over, correct?

Yes to 1. I'm not sure but probably to 2
