I saw this and was slightly concerned. Hopefully it takes a lot longer to level up after 8... i know a lot of us got to 8 VERY quickly.
You also only went up four levels, one of which shot you from 4 to 5 in a manner of 3 kills.

All great mmo's start with a low level cap, as more content arrives do does the level cap. I'm just thinking back to Vanilla WoW

I want to spend a long time doing fun interesting stuff with the abilities I unlock and the weapons I find. Not spend a ton of time getting them in the first place. Play because the game is fun, not because you're filling bars.

yes, i think destiny got the perfect balance. you get enough stuff to be motivated, but not so much that you don't care anymore.

and the lvl 20 cap is okay, you still level up your space magic/weapons/gear.

I agree with the loot curve but walkers and larger enemies should drop loot.

A level 20 level cap makes sense because Activision signed bungie to a 10 year deal of making Destiny.

Having them add 10 levels to the level cap every year would at least give people a sense of progression and enemies that scale to that level that lvl 20s won't be able to take on.

Given that those Hive peeps you can run into deep into the Forgotten Shore are already lvl. 20, I imagine that whatever the cap is it'll be higher than 20.

Must say I didn't have this pre-ordered but after playing the Alpha they have my money. had a blast playing it and returned watch dogs to put my money on this. Great job Bungie!

Did the Strike earlier with three players and holy shit is it difficult but fun. Took us two cracks at the devil walker and the sphere. Both times we all died with it on a sliver of health. But it made it a learning experience and we were much more efficient the next time around. We didn't have comms which I think would have made it a lot easier.

So much of it is getting through by the skin of your teeth. The tension is great. I think the Crucible was fairly good but I don't understand how the weapons and things work. And some people were awful and I couldn't understand why. I was 2nd in the lobby and I didn't think I played that well.

Have I seen everything the alpha has to offer now if I've done some of the Old Russia fetch quests, the Strike and the Crucible?

I know no one likes to call this an MMO
But unlike other mmo's, there will actually be end game Content (raids, pvp gear, pve gear, ect ect)

The only thing that can ruin Destiny is micro transactions (cosmetic or otherwise).

I'd buy cosmetic DLC in a heartbeat for something like this. But yeah, anything more and it's a bad precedent.

*Thinks*

What if you could buy Halo skins for your weapons. Impossible, but I just kinda freaked out thinking about it.

I've read several comments regarding the potential level 20 cap, and reaching it too quickly. Is it not possible that the level progression may take much more xp at higher levels than lower ones? Meaning going from level 15 to 16 (for example) takes so much xp it won't happen quickly.

If higher level progression transpires as quickly as it did in the Alpha than I'm on board the "I hope they change that' wagon.

Hopefully there's still a sense of progression after I hit the level cap. Maybe the higher levels take significantly more time to hit? As long as it's not like getting to inheritor in Reach then I'm okay with that, lol.

While yes I'm sure that the levels get harder to reach with each one (we see that here in the alpha already), Bungie have totally said that they want the cap to be quick and easy to reach.

They should allow a Spartan suit of armor on the XB1 version. It's a no brainer moneywise for Microsoft / Bungie, but I wonder if people will get in the way of a business decision.

Took all three classes to level 8 and my pre-alpha favorite class ended up being the one I liked playing as most (warlock). Hoping to get more content for the beta and a higher level cap.

As far as weapons are concerned, I leaned towards the auto rifles for my primary gun. I ended up with a Galahad-C gun that was a 93 damage with rate of fire 600 and clip of 44. Really worked well for me in SP (with the upgraded long range scope) and MP (with the shorter range scope).

I wish this game had cross platform play.

did they already say no? i mean, yes it is so so so incredible unlikely..but did they say no?

found it:
While there is currently no cross-platform play between the console versions of Destiny (Sony and Microsoft won't allow it), Bungie is looking at allowing character transfers from within the same console family.

"We want it to be so if you're playing on a PS3 when they game comes out, and you get a PS4 for Christmas or something like that, you don't leave your character behind,” Green said. “That would be a really important experience."

The hope is that you'll be able to transfer your Destiny saves from PS3 to PS4 and from Xbox 360 to Xbox One, so you can take the progress you've made on one console to the next.

okay..no crossplattform

when they kill you it says their level

Lol yeah... I got waxed by those fools a bunch while poking around looking for loot.

Though I never did find out what level those Anointed Acolytes (green enemies) hanging around the basement area close to where you start the game in Exploration mode were; of course, I didn't let them kill me either. Guess I'll do a death run this evening if the alpha is still running when I get home tonight.

I would imagine the sense of progression comes from leveling up your gear.

Think ill be sticking with Warlock class, tried others and prefer this class, I really love how simple everything is, the UI is nice and clean, things are really simple, I get put off with these type of games because so much stuff going on, the UI is this looks a bit like Assassins Creed.

I used to feel like I shouldn't use the Auto-rifle because it didn't fit with a Hunter roleplay-wise but it's by far the most versatile weapon. Great for raids and pretty much everything. Investing in a powerful Auto-rifle is a must.

By the way:

Bungie suggests players stick with the Campaign, though, because it includes some exclusive rewards and is designed to offer a smooth experience for levelling up. Conversely, to level up you don't have to do the Campaign missions at all, if you don't want to. You could work to unlock PvP and stick with that. "And we're okay with that," Green added.

"We want this to be about what you want to do and your character's story as you journey through the different activities in the game. If you were playing a game like WOW you could say, 'I could just level up in Battlegrounds,' or, 'I could do quests,' or, 'I could do dungeons.' You've got a lot of options there. If you are the kind of person who just likes Campaign, there's a pretty deep Campaign we have built, and there are reasons to go back into the Campaign and get more out of it."

That's awesome. Respect to Bungie.

--------------------------

Regarding the UI, I love that they've given it a sci-fi yet functional look. It doesn't draw too much attention to itself. I hate interfaces that look sci-fi for the sake of looking sci-fi. If I wouldn't use it in 2014, I wouldn't use it in 2314 (or whichever year the game takes place). Destiny's interface? I would use the hell out of it today.

The acolytes are 20s. The hallowed knight has a skull instead of his level...

Surprisingly, he's easier to kill than the acolytes.

ah never noticed that.

a couple buddies and I made it inside that big green space Hive thing in the Forgotten Shore area. That is guarded by a hive shreiker. went down into the huge underground cave opening, past a bunch of other invicible enemeies, and made it out the other side. it leads you back to the "Take back the refinery" section of the Devil's Layer mission. Where the ghost is disabling the security layers of that door. There is a cave entrance there that has green cystals glowing around it. Perhaps there are other paths down there though maybe.

Im sure other people have done this as well. But was kinda fun.

I'm sure that Bungie is going to sneak in a "THOR" armor or some such as a stupidly high level prestige armor, the way they did with Marathon in the Halo games. For that matter, I expect to see Marathon armor as well.

actually not really.

I would rather see gamertags. vs. Raven Icebloods

edit: granted some gamertags are pretty bad too

Well yea, I don't want to run into "MMO" names either. Still, seeing all the new PSN IDs with a bunch of numbers and underscores in their name is a bit jarring considering that they're going for a "real world" populated by "real people". It doesn't matter in multiplayer, but roaming around the tower especially feels a little strange.

Maybe a short service tag would be a better route.

I wonder if the Destiny logo and "Alpha" will be part of the HUD come release. Well, "Alpha" wont be there at least, surely.

I actually like seeing the logo and my psn id in the corner if I'm honest. I'd like to have the option to at least keep the logo.

It's a great design.

Ah, sounds like having a character in each class at level 20 won't take long at all. Mildly disappointing but hopefully will be offset by equipment chasing/upgrading and the claim of something new every day.
