PAL Charts - Week 24, 2014

Watchdogs still going pretty well.

Not surprised at all that there seemingly has been no real hardware bump for the One despite the Kinectless Sku. I know it is just one store, but we have not sold a single Kinectless Xbox so far, same for a store near us. The deals for the Xbox with Kinect are far superior, and people are still going for that one.

I think to see a real difference they would have had to price the Kinectless Xbox at £299

What and when is the nearest new game release?
I don't think WD will leave the #1 spot until a new entry

UFC is out this week and Sniper Elite is out the week after. Not sure either will do that well but Sniper normally does pretty well, especially when new releases are low and people are hungry for a game.

Mario Kart holding like a champ. At this rate rate I'd imagine PS4 Watch Dogs will slip into second place with MK8 taking number 1?
Wii U is pretty much dead in the UK. Game is severely limited by install base.
So unless we're expecting a massive turnaround......

Tomodachi Life is looking like a successful experiment from Nintendo with such a weird title holding well in their worst European market.

That infamous come back.

On a serious note wth are people buying fighter within?

I think some retailer released an special offer in the UK when people get Titanfall Bundle + Fighter Within + 2 Blu-Ray movies or something like that.

They're basically giving it for free.

Yep, and it should do way better in France and Germany. I think it will also have legs during all the summer.

Oh I think that was Game iirc.

Well I got a infamous free with my PS4, so mayb that did something?

Interesting from where? iirc the infamous bundles at least official ones are just discounted.

Rare that we get PAL charts and NPD on the same day. Watch Dogs continues to dominate, whilst Mario Kart 8 stands tall on it own.

No news about the Kinectless Xbone?

Not a sausage. The silence is almost deafening to be honest and the charts also paint a strong picture that little/nothing happened. You'd normally hear of some percentage bump like "XBone sales up 180%" by now but still nothing.

Says it all really. At least expected some news site to say how much of a bump it gave, but not seen anything. Mind you, it's not even in the top 100 on Amazon so i suppose it ain't surprising

They really boned it up not getting the price drop closer to Watch Dogs.

They missed out on a big wave of buyers right there and coming right after such a big game that had people upgrading to next gen probably means even less people are looking to buy a new system then normal.

It will pick up once more games are out for it.

To be fair though there are a lot of offers with Kinect that make the new stand alone SKU look poor value. Which is really having the opposite effect of what a price cut should be. It doesn't help the new advert shows off Kinect, yet purchasing the new SKU you can't do any of the features. As it stands the new SKU really should be £299 to make it good value and have an impact. Right now it seems a wasted move. It would have helped as well if there was some big game out to help it shift better. But the next big XBone game is... September/October? I'm not even sure.

Whilst I think that would have been a better strategy, Watch_Dogs probably wouldn't have had that big an impact either with the marketing/bundling being exclusive to the PS4. Same with Destiny, I don't think that's going to cause much of a spike for the XBone in September. I'm not sure who has marketing rights to FIFA this year. MS would probably do best to have that, if Sony has Destiny that month.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
The silence is even more deafening, when you consider that the new SKU released last Monday, so it was tracked for a full week, while normally hardware releases are on Friday.

Unless there's a report later in the week, that's not a good sign.

So did the price change do anything? In the pal regions?

Not so much in France for the moment, it seems. I talked with a Micromania (gamestop) rep' last week, in Paris, and when I asked about the Xbox One and if the new price announcement was boosting its sales he told me it wasn't the case at all, at least for his store.

So it looks like the Xbox one price cut has been ineffective, even in the UK (?), Makes me curious in how June NPD is going to play out.

Wow I was sure we'd have heard something about a hardware boost due to the kinectless SKU being available but it sounds like there was already offers by retailers more worthwhile in the UK than the kinectless SKU offer

On whether Amazon is useful or not to have an idea of sales, I compared the last 2 weeks of chart track data vs Amazon (couldn't be arsed to go further than top 10).
I kept the Original Amazon rankings, so it won't be 01, 02, 03 etc because obviously there's stuff not released yet, accessories, consoles etc in their charts.

EU for Xbox is like Japan for any console, no matter what MS do the region has no interest people in EU waited a year and a half to buy a $600 console while X360 was already out and for half the price, UK is a bit different but this gen is following the mainland mentality.

So did the price change do anything? In the pal regions?
Well, the price kind of increased here in Germany. I've seen a XB1 + Kinect + Titanfall for 399€ in multiple retail chains. Now they went for 499€ again because of the cheap SKU.
I guess price for the 499€ Bundle will be cut in the next few weeks because it sells like shit doesnt matter which SKU we are talking about.

I got this feeling that similar but not to the same scale as Wii U, Xbox One sales will flatline very soon in EU. Italy chart doesn't bode well at all.

Good numbers for Mk, good to see Wii U hardware doing well around Europe. It's just a shame there are so few releases over the next few months to carry it's momentum.

Amazon is not a good indicator of Nintendo product sales because of poor high street/retail availability. It drives consumers looking for Nintendo products to Amazon or other online retailers who are guaranteed to have stock. The same goes for other niche products like PS Vita.
