What dimensions are you allocating or someone'll be resizing everything afterwards?

good question!

we need to get this figured out quick so people don't create pictures that scale horribly.

I'd be tempted to leave out the keyboard, and just use the monitor as a frame with the letters P E T along the bottom. Less cluttered, more space for messages, and I'm sure he'll still get the idea anyway, given how long he's probably stared at a PET monitor.
sounds good!
so a roughly A3 sized trapezoid?

A2 would probably be the best possible size, as it's not overwhelmingly big but allows for a good amount of space for all the messages and pics. 420mm x 594mm. If you factor in the PET border, that still leaves plenty of room for contributions. Ideally, we'll want picture submissions to be formatted by users to something like 200 pixels by 150, as that way we can stack them on top of each other without having to do too much resizing. Obviously any pics already submitted, we'd have to reformat, but that's pretty easy with modern imaging tools.

I think it would be nice if we could have a general GAF message in the middle of the card. Just something simple like "Get well soon, from everyone at NeoGAF"

Depending on how many submissions we get, it might be an idea to have picture submissions on one side of the card, then have just regular well wishes on the other side. If we print off two sheets of A2, one with the PET monitor and pictures, one with more general well wishes laid out in text, then put them back to back, that should create a pretty comprehensive card that allows everyone to contribute in some fashion, even those without any art skills.

Again, this all depends on how many people submit something. We may find that an A3 size format is just fine for what we have.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
I'd really like to participate, in whatever capacity is possible. Unfortunately, I don't have Photoshop abilities; I'll see if a friend of mine can do it for me XD

Just try to do it yourself, you gotta convey your own feelings. Doesn't matter if it is not mindblowingly beautiful.

I'll try to draw something tonight, I like the idea.

If you could do a small mockup of your prefered layout when you get home, I'll add it to the OP as soon as some more submissions start coming in.

How would that text for the backside be formatted?
Just lines of text, all in the same font?

I'm not really that creative but I will support this!

I think aside from Kirby and Balloon fight, we should involve Smash as well. After all, he is one of the pioneers of that game.

I was just thinking a line of text, with the username in italics underneath, just so there's a name to put with each well-wish. EG

"Hope you're feeling better Iwata"
Gafuser No1

"Hoping this message gets to you directly"
Gafuser No2

"Get well soon"
Gafuser No3

Just format them so it's easy to see name and what they're saying. I doubt he'll go through each and every last one with a magnifying glass, but he'll have people in Japan who can convey the message if his English isn't quite up to snuff, and it allows people to contribute something even if they don't feel particularly arty.

Count me in! I'm not too crazy about the PET idea though, I think it should be something Nintendo related.

There's going to be a lot of Nintendo related pics and messages already, if this thread is anything to go by. I think the PET monitor would make for a nice in-joke for Iwata. We could always put Earthbound and Kirby stickers along the edge of the monitor too :p

Im not exactly sure what to make, but I would love to be in on this.

Maybe I can pull out some good Iwata Asks quotes.

A collage of pictures of people from GAF with their favorite Nintendo product that when you zoom away shows a picture of Iwata with the text "Get well soon." Or use the pictures to spell out get well soon or something like that.

I will start work on something video related tonight anyway, even if some/all of yous guys don't want to participate.

It'll probably take me about 8 months to finish anyhow.

I guess I'll contribute with my crappy photoshop skills.

I'd like to help as well. If a donation or something alone those line like an e-signature happens I'll gladly help.

Edit:

The Mii idea sounds really good.

Could we get some guidelines on how we should do it? Dimensions etc.?

If efyu-lemonado doesn't mind, I'll create a card layout mock-up when I get back from work later. If we're going with an A2 design, a picture that fits in a 300x250 pixel box should hopefully allow everyone to get their submissions on there. As long as its a picture that can scale down in size though, I'm sure we'll be able to format it to fit. I'll work out the exact maths this evening, but I think that should work.

Best thing, I think, is not to overthink things, and come up with something that's bright, simple and with a nice message to it. No need to get too complicated or intricate.

Sounds good, I'll keep an eye on this thread.

I'm already in the process of making an artwork, but it's starting to sound like it's gonna be Miis and text only?

I think it could work as a mix of both. Not everyone who wants to say get well may even have a Mii handy, for instance, so I think it could be a mix of art and messages submitted by users, maybe with Miis arranged along the bottom of the card. We've already seen people start to contribute art, and I'd hate to see that not get used.

4chan used approx. 128x128 pixel images for theirs, with a total of 16*14=224 tiles. I assumed we'll have about half as many tiles in ours, which means they can be about twice as big.

here's a very rough, preliminary layout test, using a 12 by 12 arrangement of 150px by 200px images.

Just wanted to see if this is a good size for the individual images.

axisofweevils

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
What a nice idea! I'll try to make something.
At the very least, I'll contribute my Mii.

Anyone know the font that is used on the Wii U system? It would make it look more like a Miiverse post. Would be neat I think. BTW my PNG doesn't look really good using the dark theme. Still need to tweak it.

Someone can use this for their image if their struggling to find something, especially for Iwata's connection to Earthbound, I was gonna use this but ended up with K.K. Slider.

Edit: Used it for another member ;P

If someone who can draw is doing something kirby/balloon fight related, you could always combine the two with kirby shaped balloons.

Sadly I can't draw for toffee

Maturity, bitches.
How about a collage of Miiverse drawings?

The clever thing about this is that you can make a fake Miiverse drawing quite easily in the most basic paint programme so even those without access to Miiverse can contribute.

That looks grand. You even got the GAF logo in there. I'll just get working on a pic when I get home then.

it's really rough, I just made it to calculate the sizes of images. Those still depend on number of submissions of course. I'll put it in the OP for now just to give people a general idea, and later on we can spruce it up or let someone with actual talent remake it ;)

Here's my idea and contribution if yall wana go with it.

Everyone can send in an image of their Miis to me, I'll put them together so all of our Miis make the Neogaf logo. We'll print it out on a card, poster, or just email and write something like "Get well soon." on the bottom.

I missed the 4chan's get well card, but made it in the TreeHouse thank you one.

So this is an opportunity to not miss it again.

I like the Miiverse drawing collab the most, until a final outcome is found, subscribed!

Had another mess around with this. Closer to the idea of using the PET monitor as a frame? The text is not correct, but it's there to rough it out.
