Yu Suzuki and Mark Cerny talk Shenmue III strategy?!

The end of Shenmue 2 felt like such a pivotal moment in the story that I always felt the third game could easily justify itself going in a different direction in gameplay. Maybe more emphasis on action and fantasy. As long as the changes are smart and extend the feel of Shenmue to a modern audience (or people who didn't like it before), it could work.

You don't like Crash and Spyro? Jak? Ratchet?

DICK FUCKING TRACY?

Hated em all. Especially Ratchet. I realize this is a shocker to people but there are people out there that have always hated Crash Bandicoot and Ratchet. Jak was really bad too. Never touched a Spyro game, figured my life is better for it :p

I see. I thought you disliked him as a person.

Never met him, so I wouldn't say I like or hate anyone as a person without that.

Hated?

There is something wrong with you.

Yeah, must be.

He designed Sonic 2 as well.

Never liked Sonic - god knows I've tried. I've played most of the Sonic games out there but it always feels like "go real fast until you run into something, dead stop, then try to find a shitty spring or loop" - Generations was not bad though, I really did enjoy playing that.

I hate Batista.

Would you say you like 3d Mario games? I am trying to understand if this is your dislike for 3d platformers.

I liked Mario 64 well enough when it came out (around when I played the shitty ol' Bandicoot games) and definitely preferred Mario's. However going back to them last year was not kind.

I like 3d platformers well enough, I just always felt Jak, Ratchet, and Crash were the poor man's version of a competent but not inspired clone, even though they actually AREN'T. Just didn't work out for me.

Hmmm...thank you for this...I still don't understand you, but thank you! Although I don't think I have ever played anything quite like Ratchet games.

believe?

I don't understand how Sega couldn't finish the series with the Yakuza team. It's basically the same style of game so they could use the Yakuza series' engine.

Every time a Shenmue thread gets bumped and its not an announcement of 3 it feels like my heart is getting stabbed by a bunch of needles.

We'll see PlayStation 5 before we see Shenmue III, if we ever see Shenmue III at all that is.

You think they're posing for the camera but actually they're watching Richard Lemarchand demo a build of Shenmue III.

You know, judging by everyone's hype for this series, I really hope that they make Shenmue 1 and 2 available for PlayStation owners in the near future. I'd love to give them a try.

It seemed like they were planned as one of Sega's HD remasters at one point (along with Skies of Arcadia), but someone mentioned that Jet Set Radio HD may have not performed as well as Sega had hoped. That was the last remaster and Sega hasn't said anything about a new one since its release even though they were certainly suggesting that they had more in the pipeline before it.

I put in Shenmue II over the past weekend and I gotta say, it has aged poorly. Not just graphics, but the delivery of the lines, the animation, the scripting, I mean just about the whole of it. It was pretty painful to realize since I hold these games so close to my heart.

I think rather than get a 3rd game with the first two getting HD releases, it wouldn't be a bad idea to just start it over again with a remake for the first two games AND the third part, all rolled into one game. Go ahead and trim the fat from the first two games as well and make it a more streamlined and focused experience.

I know some of you might call blasphemy, but I think its a legit idea and a good way to get NEW players interested and KEEP them interested rather than trying to get them to play through the old stiff games that can't hold up to the new stuff they're used to playing.

Freaking Sega never released it on a PS platform and then moan about low sales. It's like "dude, there are a ton of PlayStation owners who never played it because they never owned a dreamcast or a Xbox." Tons of potential customers on ps2 and they never release for it.
