Here is how the Valvrave set looks like. Seems very plain to me.

Accurate reaction after watching such a great episode with this bullsh*t twist
( oh no , i lied to you and the puzzle is not what you think it is )

Yeah but you can't make a hot spring scene because anna.
(not that i mind )

This season of phi brain was much fanservice.
ratzel was great overall , but enigma sucked , enigma lasted too long and his reveal, his motivations sucked. JIn momenty were fine , and his orpheus moments were awesome... it's just too bad that the pay-off weren't as good as one would have hoped when you compare it to S1 and S2 finales.

S3 did provide several tag matches and some very great battle royales.
The pyramid puzzle was great stuff and the jin deadly puzzles most entertaining. So the highlights were very phi-brain like.
It was a great season, better than S1 IMO and inferior to S2 even if both had IMO lackluster finales after all that build-up. S3 just leave a bitter taste AFTER that ep 24.

But phi brain is well worth the ride regardless.

I'd probably go 2 > 1 > 3 it probably doesn't help that I waited so long after the Orpheus reveal to finish season 3 as pretty much the next 4-5 episodes after the Orpheus reveal are fairly weak. I did really like Raestel I just wish her and the expanded roll of Rook and Freecell didn't cut away from Anna's screen time (and Cubik's I guess). I also wish Melancholy had a bigger part in season 3 but oh well.

Sailor Moon Crystal 1

That was really good, it lived up to the hype and the art style looks good in motion. Yes the cg transformation is a disappointment and some of the animation looks wonky at times but as a whole it was solid. I have no nostalgia for the original music as I only just started watching the original series via hulu, I liked the new music and thought it fit the series very well. Looking forward to episode 2... in 2 weeks :(

Maybe ask them about the silhouette correction in the BD. Or just straight up, who cares in the end.

They might not answer if I asked straight. I'm thinking, "Mr. Nakashima, how would you compare the writing process for Gurren Lagann against Kill La Kill? I understand the production restraints but I was wondering how that affected your writing process."

Aldnoah Zero is 2 cour with a break in between like how they did with anime like Fate/Zero.

I believe EP1 is airing right now?

Sailor Moon Crystal - 1

I thought it was pretty solid, but I don't have a deep history with the franchise other than watching the dub in the 90's and bits and pieces of other stuff over the years. The transformation sequence is pretty bad, but I do like the first few seconds of it. Other than that I don't really have much to say since it seemed fairly similar to the first episode of the original show based on what I remember. I'm sort of glad I don't know a ton about Sailor Moon because I would probably be internally comparing everything while I watched. Hopefully it turns out to be a good adaptation so I can finally see the story as it was in the manga.

Not indicative of the episode, just wanted to see her answers

[Sailor Moon Crystal] - 1

Not as bad as I had feared, not as good as a property of this important deserves. Decidedly average, which is rather disappointing.

Before S3 , all i wanted was to see kaito, gyamon, rook and freecell kicking asses left and right. This season mostly delivered in that regard and orpheus was supposed to be THE BIG bad , bad enough to make everyone compete against him and that would have been cool to have everyone teaming up to help kaito to beat him instead they went the other route. the 4 way battle royale was much disapointing as a result since it cleared many people out of the picture WHEN they should have been there to defeat the big bad and prove that puzzles can be fun.

The fact that they gloss over the possibility of a BIG reset is still annoying.. i wouldn't have minded the big reset.Especially after the death toll at that point.
And i wanted more gyamon - antoinette ! i wanted more of them , something , a spark ! A confirmation, even indirect ? Isn't this pairing OBVIOUS to everyone except those 2 ?

i'm glad S3 happenned , but damn if i wish they could have put more meat in the sandwitch, i'm not hungry ( yet ) but it could have been more fullfilling.
When S2 introduced the orpheus order, the pay-off as middle of season twist was actually cool since freecell had a big arc to explain all this stuff , it was dumb but i could relate. Ratsel motives are actually justified , but enigma is just a big waste after all his swag in the first part.i could have forgiven him if orpheus was dealt better but they crumbled under the weight of 3 seasons of forshadowing.
WHAT A SHAME.

i'm now expecting a S4

Ps: Orpheus should have been defeated by nonoha sweets !

The chorus for the SAO2 OP is pretty good. The beginning was very meh. Also, Idk why but I thought a great portion of the OP was very... bland. The fighting looked cool but it felt pretty weird. Especially the beginning part of it.

I liked the fighting bits towards the end. The only bad thing that caught my eye was the backgrounds while Kirito is flipping around channeling his Jedi powers. I guess it's cheaper to use 3D/CG versus hand animating quickly changing backgrounds (like in AoT).

Tokyo Ghoul
Really nice first episode. I like how it opened so intensely but then it was all calm and cool, followed by BAM, duck and cover!!! It wasn't like it happened in the manga, but I enjoyed how they handled certain things versus the manga.

I actually care about the main character, which is hard for me to do most of the time in animes. I felt despair at one point. Will keep watching.

Sailor Moon Crystal 1
Loved everything except the 3D transformation.

It's actually almost exactly like chapter 1 of the manga (I have the whole collection), except she doesn't have the mask when transformed (which has the power to see when someone's in trouble). I enjoyed it, and look forward to 2 weeks time for the next one.

I never saw the original. I used to own all of the dvds for all the series that were released in America but when they went out of print I sold them for 4 to 8 times the original MSRP. I mean, I couldn't resist the profits there (I think i made near 1000 dollars in profit on that and CCS dvds) Anyways first episode was interesting but VA voices are still annoying as sin. I lol'ed at the flashing emergency hair bun lights.

Okay I think I give up on /r/anime for the most part. After watching Tokyo Ghoul ep1 and being underwhelmed and reading quite a bit of criticism here on Gaf, too (in the OT in particular), I was like "okay, wonder what /r/anime thinks about that episode.

So apparently everyone's fucking amazed by this first episode in this thread. Mind you, I understand it that generally more people who're going to like the show will go to these respective discussion threads. However, there's a difference between being somewhat optimistic and just straight out focused on positivity. When you cannot even find a comment pointing out at least one of the flaws within like the top 100 replies then eh.

And in the case of this show and it's first episode... I'm sorry but on a total scale this just wasn't anywhere near "amazing" whatsoever.

But then again it takes like the entire season of a show like Brinhilde (sorry for using proper spelling) for some guys to admit that that show maybe wasn't all that great. Stuff like No Game No Life gets treated like some godly show and so on.

The majority of that userbase is simply 'that' broad audience that stuff like SAO appeals to.

From now on, I shall spend more anime time here on GAF than there, at least when proper discussing is concerned.

Given that Aldnoah.Zero is in Fate/Zero's timeslot, as I imagine Stay Night will be this means Stay Night will be a split cour as well. This is great news!

Sailor Moon Crystal 01

Watching the first few episodes of the original series right before starting Crystal served a good reminder of what Sailor Moon is. Good remake all around, the transformation scene wasn't as jarring as I thought it would be and works well with the animation style. OP and ED were good too but nothing beats the original's.

Crunchyroll down for SAO premier :(

Sword Art Online II 1
Laughed during the restaurant scene all because of the people in the background looking at them like lunatics. With the basic premise out of the way now, it seems like GGO will start next week.

Edit: RIP Crunchyroll. Can't get to the rest of my shows.
