Goodbye Animal Crossing: New Leaf

What's better than spending a lot of your time in a game is spending your time in a game you like and love. /salute

Basically you're saying "Stop likings things I don't like".
So which games do YOU think the OP should've played instead of ACNL which he LOVED?
Pathetic.

I said goodbye to it last month. What a fantastic and endearing game. I'm gonna miss playing it but I must wait for the next one!

great OP! very heartfelt stuff, i love that nintendo can still illicit such a response from us grown gamers.

animal crossing is one of things i miss the most going from all nintendo handhelds to vita.

Good job!

I only lasted for about 2 months. After I stopped playing for a bit because of various reasons, I just couldn't get back into it because the game was basically saying "fuck you for not playing everyday" every time I took a break. I would start a new game but I don't feel like doing all that shit over again, and unlocking all the stores again. So there goes 40 bucks. It's one of the only reasons I've held out on getting Tomodachi Life.

There is no way that you read the entire OP and thought that that was the best thing that you could post.

Great great OP.
I left sometime in feb-march because work took most of my time. I had tons of fun in the months I played. I usually visit my town for Christmas and new year's celebrations after I've left.

Right now I'm taking a break so next year I can once again lose my life to Monster Hunter.

I love these games with high replay value at a sloooow pace.

What a touching recollection of your time playing and ACGAF as a whole. Glad you had so much fun with the game. Will be sure to check out your town through a dream though. Seems like the kind of place I'd like to visit :D

I can certainly understand your connection to your town, I still miss mine every now and then. AC GAF was also a fantastic community, nowhere else could you have found people to willing to fill their entire town with items and open their gates for an entire day to let people catalogue items for free, or have expert gardeners like Philia willing to spend hours helping people arrange their flowers.

Sadly my time with New Leaf was cut short (although 500 hours is hardly short) precisely because I enjoyed the game so much.

Once I finally had all of my favourite villagers in place I realised that the day I accidentally miss the chance to stop one of them leaving, the town I'd worked so hard on would be ruined. When the villager I always hated finally wanted to move I had to stop playing. Until the day I boot the game up again, the flag saying he is moving won't clear and none of my villagers will be able to move. I can't ever enjoy messing around in my town again, but I know that Rosie, Bob, Muffy, Drago, Lucha and the others will always be there.

I can't believe that I spent 147 hrs on New leaf. I'm sure I wouldn't have reached half that playtime if not for the wonderful community, especially those I met through the OT here on GAF.

It's my first time experiencing an AC game and I'm definitely looking forward to the next one. See ya then, Chopper :]

I had to stop playing New Leaf once I started grad school (studying game dev, ironically). It was hard to go cold turkey, I pretty much played it for hours daily until the first day of class. I was well on the way to matching your commitment. It has been just about a year now and I still think about going back. The cart has yet to leave my travel case.

I also got Mr. Eguchi to sign my copy at GDC this year:

I recommend anyone interested in the design philosophy of the game to watch the GDC postmortem: http://www.gdcvault.com/play/1020808/How-to-Turn-a-New

Spent 670 hours on it too. Liked the DS version but this one is so good. I've just completed 80% of all articles.. Which means another golden medal.

Congrats to you

LOL so much butthurt, it was a bad joke guys, move on.
Yes I don't like AC, I think it doesn't even classify as a game.
Have fun with it though!

Very cool post, Chopper!

What's interesting is that I sold my New Leaf cartridge yesterday. I bought it a few months ago (my first AC ever), played it for a few days but couldn't really get into it. I wanted to, but it just didn't click with me. However, I love hearing stories from dedicated Animal Crossing fans. Thanks for sharing it!

Awesome.

I played this game EVERY SINGLE DAY for more than two months straight. I don't think any other game has made me do that. This was also my first AC game so it was really something special to me. I go back every now and then. Such a relaxing game.

I spent over 500 hours on this game when Pokemon X and Y came out and I had to put it down. I then played the latter for 600 hours :p

New Leaf is such an amazingly fun game. It's the first time I've really been hooked on an AC game and it was so much fun.

I really fell in love with it and the community too, but I reached that "time to move on *sniff*"-stage after 70-80 hours :( I wish I hadn't, but my attention span is limited and the number of games I'd like to play unlimited

But let's celebrate what we had instead of what we lost!

The Animal Crossing village truly is a wonderful place

But even if you don't boot the game, time goes by and that villager is gonna move anyway, isn't he? I think I recall playing the game after some time and finding out some neighbors were already gone.

Same here, I put in 700 hours into ACNL. I had to put it down when X/Y came out in which I spent another 700 hours. The time I spent with ACNL was truly a remarkable experience since it was my first AC game.

Yup, the AC GAF community is the best I've ever experienced. Full of kindness and helpfulness and I can't wait until the next game comes out so we can gather once again (and start out obsession all over! :D)

I've just resetted my ex's game of Animal Crossing and am playing this town for myself this time. I have to say, your story makes me feel a bit emotional... Amongst the tragedies of real life, this game represents something a much more than just 'something to do'. It feels like the last safe haven of innocence. So you saying goodbye to it... it's just so sad.

I salute you. The first thing I do when I get the dream suite is going to visit this almighty town you've created.

Mad props to you, Chop. I did about 200, wrapped up when I finally grew the blue roses myself 😊

Likewise, thanks to ACGAF, we were able to decifer New Leaf's complex gardening system, which allowed us to master and control which foliage grew in our towns. This has been massively important to me and my daily routine, which has started, each and every day (irl), with me checking on and replanting my flowers. An obsession I no longer need.
Hey, did you all take flowers further than I did?

(This was where my journey ended: https://www.zigg.com/2014/everything-about-flowers-animal-crossing.html)

Good luck with where life (and other games) take you!

I think I've logged half your playtime, so I can definitely understand your experience with the game.

And, yeah, ACGAF is awesome. I feel kind of bad for not popping in as much, ever since Pokemon took me over : P

If you don't like Animal Crossing then don't post in an Animal Crossing thread and make crap post, it's as simple as that.

Also if Animal Crossing isn't a game then what is it?

If you start throwing around the word "butthurt" and adding no contribution whatsoever to topics you post in, you won't get the opportunity to do so for much longer.

I'm actually going to go against the crowd and say your obsession is unhealthy.

First, you Aβydoς CLEARLY didn't read the whole post, as you would've never even considered posting such stupid messages. Now, to both you and Isleofsancroy, this is a place for gamers to get together and exchange meaningful words and discussions, not baseless criticisms or irrelevant posts, especially when the OP made a thread to just TALK about his game of choice, not garner anyone's opinions on the actual game, this was clearly a heartfelt post.

If it was a one-time stupid mistake, fine, but don't do it again! This is a great community, and while I do understand that people get out of hand sometimes, it isn't what this site is about. That's why there are sites like IGN and MyNintendoNews, where people can turn a conversation from a game to a console war in 2 seconds.

Lastly.........to the OP, thanks for your deep and personal opinions on AC:NL. There aren't many games that resonate with people in such a way, but when you do have a gem like that to remember the "feeling" of getting lost in that world, man it's a fucking GREAT feeling!!! (My personal favorite has always been FFVII. I used to get pulled out of my world and would lose myself into the many different towns (Midgar slums, Gold Saucer, Nibelheim, Costa Del Sol) because of the music and environment when playing it back in the day when it first came out!)

Great post. I actually started playing the game again recently, and realized how much I hadn't done. I think I stopped playing thinking I had pretty much reached the bottom, but I now realize that was a laughable notion, I had barely scratched the surface.

There is something zen about taking an hour out of your day to take care of your town, fishing, excavating, trying out new outfits, talking to the neighbors, visiting the shops, letting the credits roll to KK Slider's tunes...

I feel you, OP. I doubt I'll pour 800+ hours into it by the time I'm ready to stop, but it can be a really great experience.

Maybe stop posting to this thread.

Yo OP, impressive playtime. I have some time with AC everyday on my way to and from work, during that time I usually manage to do some basic stuff like find some fossils, find the stone with bells, water dying flowers etc. I practically don't even turn it off, just let it save and start a new day when I pop it out at the bus stop in the morning...

Wonderful story, OP. It's nice that you were able to find such comfort in this game.

Closest I've come to in play time is Fire Emblem Awakening, which I docked roughly 700 hours into with my main Lunatic file approaching 200 hours of play time. Still have to go back and fill out that Support Log someday...
