Atleast the games ended so fast that people in the arena who didn't liked the 2 teams can go home now or go to the secret shop!

BAD FOR MORALE?

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?

FIVE MILLION FUCKING DOLLARS ON THE LINE. IF THAT'S NOT ENOUGH MORALE FOR PEOPLE FROM A COUNTRY WHERE THE AVERAGE INCOME IS FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS.
Don't they still get a million bucks? That's pretty great for playing some vidja.

So instead of discussing the finals we are discussing collusion. Well, at least TI5 can't possibly be any worse.

That's what's making people angry, there's nothing to really discuss. Vici made horrible picks, played like ass, and Newbee just rolled over them. I mean, a 15 minute GG in a Grand Finals for $5m is really depressing. Obviously stuff is going to change because this was hands down the worst Grand Finals in TI history.

They didn't but its better then GG. I don't understand why this is hard for you to understand even if it was 0.000000001%. Thats better then 0%.

I don't really see the point. The only way of coming back would be if Newbee literally stopped playing. It would have been no more entertaining to play on for either side. To realise that as a team and concede the defeat is perfectly fine to me. They didn't give up, if that's what you are implying, and no one else saw it like that because the result was absolutely obvious to everyone

People doing whatever it takes to take credit away from Newbee. It's the meta, the heroes, the playstyle, the collusion, etc. Neebee fucking owned it and deserved to win.

I really was hoping to see more Luna and Tiny, but oh well.

Anyway, time to go back to watching more StarCraft, LoL, and the FGC on Wed. nights.

The collusion arguments are fairly bizarre.

If you were really colluding you'd stretch it out and play even series since it doesn't really matter who wins, you wouldn't just take a dive in 15 minutes.

Newbee just completely exploited the weakness of the strat that VG has been using all tournament.

You TP respond the first tower push/dive and turn it around, and VG's strat has no comeback potential.

VG beat EG(and others) because they tried to take farm while losing early towers. Newbee had 3 people TPing in every sing time VG approached a tower.

Also VG was stupid for not banning brew while relying 100% on early push/teamfight strat. Brew just completely counters that strategy.

I don't know man... last year also had Naga, OD, Lifestealer, Ezalor, Visage, Alchemist (carry) that people loved to complain about.

Last year just had an epic finals that is almost impossible to recreate.
Yeah, but mid played a fair bigger role in the game instead of just sending a farming carry there. That's where most of the big plays came from. Instead of just rotating supports(those played a role in the last meta, but it is their prime directive in this one).

Too many stomps is not fun to watch. I mean, Newbee deserves that win since they played/drafted better, but damn that was disappointing.

Wow at people thinking this is rigged and wow at poeple believing that twitter. Welcome to the internet. Twitter also predicted the football World cup correct, even the 7-1! WOW!

GG at Newbee, a class for themself this tournament!

Yeah, because esports athletes are special incorruptible snowflakes.

VG drafting the same shit over and over again and making so many bad decisions one after another. And Newbee barely even showing any emotion at lifting the aegis. How is this not suspicious?

Stream is ded.

Cross-posting since it is so good:

The twitch.tv was almost unwatchable due to stops and lags, and then I have found this:

Mind blown. You can watch twitch in high quality by following the installation procedure of VLC and livestreamer, adding a line in a text file, and typing in the command-line:
livestreamer twitch.tv/dota2ti best

Guys I'm starting a team for TI5 and it's 30mil prizepool.
First 4 people to quote get in.
We play as a chinese team because their TI winrate is 50% btw.

I think VG is just too good for everyone this TI, except Newbee who knows how to play against their meta.

It is like [A] rat dota in TI3 that dominated the tourney, but except this time there is one team in Newbee that is cut from the same tree as the dominant team and uses this to take the Aegis.

VG is superior this TI4, but Newbee knew how to counter them.

I think VG just played like absolute garbage that last game, from draft to actual execution. Literally no excuse for giving us that shitshow.

Morph populated TI2 before that, but I just dislike the meta in general right now.

This thread tl;dr

Bitch about the meta

Believe everything posted on the internet as true

The last three games combined averaged about the same amount of time as one game of TI3 and they were total stomps with amateur hour game play (courier dies to a neutral, seriously?). In game three I watched Skywrath mage AFK in the jungle while Newbee placed a ward and exploded him, map awareness of a 2k pub match.

You can't just wave away the problems the finals this year had with generalizations.

Yea, you'd never see basic mistakes in other professional sports.

Believe whatever. VG believed in their strat and was comfortable with it, of course they wouldn't completly change their playstyle when 5m$ are on the line...
If I just won 5 Million $ I probably wouldn't believe it also.

Disappointed with the last few games :( Some teams just aren't fun to watch. Oh well. Kinda weird how not excited Newbee is.

Wtf.

Compare this to Justin Wong winning at EVO. Esports feels lifeless compared to the FGC most of the time.
China :/

SC2 has the same problem when most Koreans win tournaments. Stoic faces and no excitement for the win, no personality, no emotion to attach to, really sucks the life out of anything. Super rare to have that (I remember that one SC1 player becoming famous because he actually celebrated a win properly. :lol)

But compare those lifeless reactions to the pop-offs we regularly see in the FGC, or those from Huk, HasuObs or Stephano when they win a tournament - I remember laughing when Stephano danced on stage and popped the champagne and went full-on F1 racing podium after winning NASL/IPL. :lol Alliance and Navi were also great last year. That's how you create excitement and win fans, not with this stoic, robotic behaviour.

I am just not really seeing how it's worse than 4 protect 1 farm all day (turtle DOTA) or avoid all active engagements all day until you kill their buildings (rat DOTA) metas.

The grand finals actually featured kills at a solid pace... the real problem was that it was just extremely one sided. It could've been any meta and it would've been a boring grand finals.

That is how dota works man, it's a dominant meta (perfected for months) leading up to this last tourney and the team that plays this meta the best or knows how to counter it wins. A 15 minute GG just is part of that specific meta, win or lose.

That's my take away as well. Whenever teams had a draft that didn't get crushed in lane and could teamfight against VG, they didn't look like the same team.

VG was in the head of teams like EG and DK. They gave up so many towers for free and then couldn't fight when it mattered.

I'm sure you enjoyed their reaction in the pod when they realised they had won...

Considering the prize difference between 1st and 2nd there's absolutely no reason for them to even collude unless money outside the prize pool is offered but even then that's a shit ton of money to compensate.

This was my first TI, and I really enjoyed some of the matches during the group stages and I liked some of the crazy shit the western teams occasionally threw out there, but most of the main event felt like a safe tournament of throws by fully competent players. It felt stale and boring by the end, and I don't think the matches themselves will encourage people to join the DOTA scene.

The year's TI was all about that community-driven $11 million prize pool, and not a whole lot else.
Yeah.. I enjoyed the group stages and the build up but the main event was a letdown. Only 6 teams, knowing one of the finalists on the first day, finals on Monday early afternoon (couldn't watch). Felt like they ended early each day and could have fit more games in. Compared to EVO the hype paled in comparison, and there were plenty of upsets there too this year for USFIV. Great production value by Valve but I hope they make some changes to the format next time.

I swear I remember reading that Asian culture sees extreme display of emotions as rather odd.

Could explain why they didn't go fucking mental when they won.

You missed the Brood war golden era days of Korean Esport.
