(Jul 8-21) The International 2014 DOTA 2 Championships: $10.5 million prize pool

Absolutely no hype final. :(

Newbee wins. :(

rOtk and Burning didn't win aegis. ;(

I swear I remember reading that Asian culture sees extreme display of emotions as rather odd.

Could explain why they didn't go fucking mental when they won.

You didn't see Chuan winning TI2 breh.

This also. It is just a different culture and they look pretty happy to me. I don't know, what should they do? Stomping around and fucking VG? They know each other, the probably also have some restraint and sympathy for their losses.

Now, this becomes boring fast, especially when you don't speak Chinese.

That's what's making people angry, there's nothing to really discuss. Vici made horrible picks, played like ass, and Newbee just rolled over them. I mean, a 15 minute GG in a Grand Finals for $5m is really depressing. Obviously stuff is going to change because this was hands down the worst Grand Finals in TI history.

The once sided nature of the final was disappointing, closer matches are always more exciting. But that is really out of Valve's control. That being said the quality of the production was top notch this year.

Haha, awesome. Its going to be all Dota 2 in the top 15 next year with TI5, unless Riot hosts a $10 mill tournament.

Since that only takes into account tourney prizes LoL players are always going to be low on that list since most professionals are salaried.

I do imagine Riot will up the prize pool next time though.

Yeah, because esports athletes are special incorruptible snowflakes.

VG drafting the same shit over and over again
The team was stubborn and thought they could make it work?
making so many bad decisions one after another.
Making mental mistakes in a momentum based series never saw that before
Only huge mistakes though not like Newbee capitalized on even the smallest of ones
And Newbee barely even showing any emotion at lifting the aegis. How is this not suspicious?
Did you see their reaction in their booth after the game? They also looked very happy when their families came on stage to celebrate with them.
This whole argument is just stupid.

They went nuts immediately after the win while still in the booth. In front of the crowd they were much more reserved, but they did go "fucking mental" right after.

Considering the prize difference between 1st and 2nd there's absolutely no reason for them to even collude unless money outside the prize pool is offered but even then that's a shit ton of money to compensate.

Of course, if there's any corruption, there will be outside money involved. China is literally the mecca of gambling.

They should so a dance like Oppa Dondo. But I really don't believe that is Xiao8's style.

Well I feel I have no right to complain about what is boring based on cultural differences or lack of understanding their language. This should be expected of an truly international event. Groups of people will behave very differently for these reasons, but they deserve to have won, so it's up to them how they approach it.

LiQuid!

I proudly and openly admit to wishing death upon the mothers of people I don't like
Wonder how much of each players' $1 milli is set aside to pay off match fixers. Probably a lot based on how emotionless they all looked in that final presser.

People... how can you fall pray for such simple conspiracies. Just... really. TI4 rigged? I'm out of this thread.

i don't think the whole tournament would be faked but you know it isn't crazy to imagine the final 2 teams just agreeing to divide the pot. i've heard stories in esports of people agreeing to stuff like this for far less money. i don't actually play dota2 (i play LoL) so i don't know how unrealistic these matches are, but i've been watching for years and the lack of effort shown here is eerie

Lets all watch game 5 of TI 3 boys.

I used to think that was the reason, but Japanese, Korean and Chinese football teams celebrate like any other when they score goals or win a game.

Quick question to people who bought tshirts at the secret shop: Do they run bigger / smaller than a regular t-shirt? Thanks

I think VG is just too good for everyone this TI, except Newbee who knows how to play against their meta.

It is like [A] rat dota in TI3 that dominated the tourney, but except this time there is one team in Newbee that is cut from the same tree as the dominant team and uses this to take the Aegis.

VG is superior this TI4, but Newbee knew how to counter them.

Even if VG wins most games using a single main strat, if they completely and utterly fall apart to the one team that can counter that strat on two separate occasions, then do they really deserve the win? Also, Newbee came back and won how many Bo3s in a row? I was rooting for VG since the group stages, but Newbee deserved that without question.

Yeah.. I enjoyed the group stages and the build up but the main event was a letdown. Only 6 teams, knowing one of the finalists on the first day, finals on Monday early afternoon (couldn't watch). Felt like they ended early each day and could have fit more games in. Compared to EVO the hype paled in comparison, and there were plenty of upsets there too this year for USFIV. Great production value by Valve but I hope they make some changes to the format next time.

I agree. There were too many games during the weekdays and not enough during the weekends. And the main event is basically just the lower bracket. Valve needs to tighten up the structure of the main event at least, and hopefully the scheduling issues will be resolved with it.

Morph populated TI2 before that, but I just dislike the meta in general right now.

Personally, I can't agree at all. TI4 showed viability for all strats. We saw late game slug fests succeed. We say hard push strats succeed. We saw some split pushing strats succeed too.

Teams just had answers for certain strats that they didn't have last year. In the end, VG just didn't seem to be able to make any gameplay adjustments. They literally rode their style until the wheels fell off.

All I can really say at this point is that I'm truly sad that EG couldn't beat that team. Maybe EG gets 3-0'd, but they don't tap out in the Grand Finals in 15 minutes like bitches. I felt like I was watching a StarCraft finals instead of a Dota 2 International finals.

I'm super-glad I stayed my ass at home this year. I had a bad feeling it would come to this.

Anyway, forget the corruption argument. That's not what I'm even pissed about. I just think it's a possibility and I acknowledge that slight chance of probability, that's all. I wasn't even the one who brought it up in the first place and I didn't want to be. However, people who think that something like that is utterly and absolutely impossible for whatever reason are just naive and obviously haven't seen much of what goes on in the real world.

My pet peeve from this finals has nothing to do with the stompy games or the "boring" meta. I just think it's a huge disgrace for a professional team to call GG twice in a row before one rax is even down. These guys are supposed to be role models. How many times have you played a pub game and have some idiot on your team call GG early because of some deaths? They're watching this shit and thinking that pros give up early so they should do the same in pubs and not waste their own time. It's fucking infuriating when that happens and this shit happens in the grand fucking final of the showcase competition for the sport. It just reflects very poorly on the players and on the sport.

Think about it. The final two games of the Dota 2 grand championship were won without even one single T3 tower going down, let alone rax. WTF is this shit.
