'The Last of Us: Remastered' coming to PS4, July 2014, [1080p, targeting 60 fps]

You're either trolling, or haven't played the PS3 version in a while. There are blatant improvements to texture quality, anisotropic filtering, shadows and character models character models. Not to mention the resolution and framerate.

I meant they didn't add any effects like cloud shadows or improved shaders etc. it looks like the ps3 game running on an emulator that's it :p

The problem with the PS3 version was that the low res full of jaggies and blurry textures IQ ruined the scenery and all the assets, now you can actually see how the game was supposed to look, If you don't like that than i guess the PS3 version was only worse.

There is no scenario that the PS3 version looked somehow better with its horrible IQ, please don't tell me you think that.

I think I liked it better in motion, but nevertheless I will probably check out the PS4 version in person and see how that compares.

I don't really like when edges are razor sharp in a game, I kinda prefer if a game has a slightly blurred look to it.

Here's four more screenshots for you.

Im not sure what people are expecting, but you can tell that it isnt a PS4 title.
Still looks pretty good however. The rainy parts of the game looks stellar.

Can't get a decent close up at Ellie or Tess though, they keep moving around whever I get close.

I believe the medical term for that is ''last-gen syndrome'.

Just kidding ;) It is weird at first to have games look so sharp and clean after playing last-gen for so long.

Noo, no don't get me wrong. I absolutely agree that objectively, the game has a far beter IQ, it's just that I find this IQ too sharp for me. It's when in real life you think something looks pretty damn good, but then you put on your glasses and it turns out you've been looking at an ugly piece of shit. (Shit might be too strong, but you get what I mean.)

I understand how a image can look "too clean". When you can see where all the harsh edges in geometry clip and do all sort of ugly stuff, the "man-made"ness stands out. It's like being able to tell that a prop in a movie is cheap when you see a movie on bluray.

But in TLOU, the greater overall clarity helps general look of the game so much that I don't really mind that I can see the seams a little more.

I can agree with this partially because of the outstanding texture work, but I still prefer a somewhat blurrier look.

It looks like they weren't able to find higher res version of all their textures. Some look incredible while other are less so.

As a PC gamer, you're crazy.
Here is some super sharp Mirror's Edge to clear your mind:

My mind is clear, these shots sure look partially amazing, but overall, they're too sharp for me. It's just that I can see how things, that should be round (like pipes and stuff), are made out of 4 polygons, and are everything but round. It just hurts my eyes.

But back on TLOU. One thing I'm excited for is the stable performance in MP, that's an improvement.

So you'd rather a blurry image? :/

in fairness...i think youre missing his point...

to be perfectly honest...looking at those Mirror's Edge shots...in particular the crane...it looks awful to me...yes, the IQ is incredible...but you could render that thing in 4k and it wouldnt look more like a crane...

the completely angular edges those images show dont look natural, or realistic at all...again, the IQ is out of this world...but it looks too perfect, too clean, too angular to give any sort of illusion of realism...

i think that is more what the guy was getting at...he doesnt want low res blurred images...but he doesnt like the equally unrealistic razor sharp angles that games can have...

I actually dont believe the in-game characters have been replaced with the 'cut-scene' models. Not yet anyways.

The real picture we have to compare is Tess. Her model looks really good in the 'cut-scenes' but in-game, she always looked a little off. Spoiler :
When they get to the place she dies at, her scene model looks super good, when she lets Joel know she was bit. In-game never matched that fidelity and I doubt the PS4 version will too, but I'll wait for more comparisons

Keep in mind that the bullshots have a sort of sharpening filter added that is not present in the final release (thank god) but things like the grass look better in the bullshots.

Eh, it is a preference thing. I want as little aliasing as possible in my games. I prefer it to be as clean as possible. Having super clean IQ is also good for competitive reasons. Sadly, no games have perfect edges and polycounts are generally low. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

Is it me or does the remaster have a slight film grain effect? Did the PS3 version have this also? I don't remember noticing it on PS3. I'm not a fan of film grain filters, I'd rather have it like Infamous SS, clean and unfiltered.

Fuck me, I'm really sick. I totally think the grass looks better on the real-time shots.

Do we know if all character models got the cutscene treatment? Maybe it's only Joel and Ellie. Anyways we need better footage to judge i guess, this game needs to come out already!
