Destiny: Only one area per planet

I don't think imbalance is a huge issue. I do think people pulling space magic out of their ass, shotguns on spawn and bloom/ads are really big problems. It's fun when playing against terrible players, but it's not exactly brilliant in a competitive sense to say the least.

I agree but I don't think the game is looking to the the next MLG headliner

That's what I'm afraid of. Games coming out with small initial content, and you're being asked to pay for the rest of the game( dlc). Such a sad state of affairs :/

You're sure it's a small amount of content? You've played the full game then?

I swear, no matter how many reviews or people end up stating that it has a lot of content, there are going to be people who are all, "would have had more content if they'd just put the expansions in the base game. Such a ripoff."

First The Last of Us' shadow's..

Now only have 4 huge explore areas in Destiny.

First of all, there was about...

4 blocked off areas in the Earth.

4 giant doors blocked off on the moon.

2 other planets we haven't even seen

RELAX. Some of you will buy a game for 10 hours of gameplay. I got nearly 60 hours from the Alpha and Beta combined. Only exploring locked/limited earth, level 8 cap, and 2 PVP maps.

And in that time I didn't even come close to level up all my class abilities.

But getting shot multiple times in other fps and then being completely fine at full health after hiding behind a book case for 4 seconds is A-OK?
Sure, why not?

By competitive I don't mean MLG pros. I'm talking about when there are two evenly matched teams playing to win. Doesn't matter if they're good or bad, just that they're about as good as each other.

Oh my god this place is full of retarded people. I've been playing the beta and it's just amazing. Here i was thinking how awesome the full game will be and how great it will be for playstation gamers to experience a bungie game, but this thread.... So much complaining! Sheesh!

And you're thinking a pre-assumed notion of disgust towards a lack of content ( which is still sizable, just not at a MMO-level) will be the game's downfall?
Destiny will sell well, I'm not saying that it won't. Just consider how psyched people will be to play Destiny 2, 3, and whatever else when the first game keeps their attention for a week.

I'm wondering about all of these people who cancel their pre-orders when there's suddenly some new info that could OR could not be a bad thing. Do they have some kind of checklist that they go through in order to justify the purchase? Because surely you cannot yet know how the full game is going to be, so it's all up to their expectations and imagination.

I think it's really weird concidering this is a fairly new game concept. People talk like they have been playing games like this for years and they expect this and that. But no one really knows. What we know is how most of the Earth and Moon location will look like, and that's pretty much it. The rest will reveal itself when the game is released, and only then can we tell how it will actually look like.
Canceling a preorder doesn't necessarily mean you won't get the game. It just means you are no longer pre-emotive lay sold on he game and now want to wait and actually see the final product.

It's not like there is no presedent for this kind of thing though these days. I think gamers have a right to be skeptical.

I need to get out of this thread.

I couldn't make it anymore obvious...

No they aren't.

The problem is we have been forced to play 5 missions and one strike in the same area over and over again for 2 weeks. In the retail game your progression will continue and you won't feel burnt out on just old Russia. The game is smaller then most of is anticipated but don't act like the game is the beta plus a few more missions.

Honestly if you are worried about the content that's great smart choice to wait. Posts like yours and others claiming the game is dead and lolz activision. Do no good.

I guess you really need the "/s" here.

Destiny Lies:

- "You'll be able to explore all of that area over there!"
Nope. Extremely right restrictions of exploration. Game kills you if you walk out of the intended zone.

- Friends enter your game world visibly from their ship.
Nope. They just pop in suddenly out of nowhere.

- Old Chicago and Mumbai Push are parts of Earth.
Nope. Better hope its in the DLC.

- "Each planet's campaign will be as long and large as Halo Reach."
Nope. Definitely not the case with Earth. Even with areas like King's Watch being included, it seems smaller than Reach. And 10-15 hours in Old Russia is going to get dull if that is the case.

- Public Event brings in a ton of other players to fight the boss.
Nope. No extra summons. Better hope the people around you actually want to do the public event.

- "You'll be able to create the character how you want them to look in all sorts of ways.".
Nope. Every race/gender has like 6-8 face options.

- Showed gameplay inferring you can deploy your ghost as an assistant.
Nope. He is just an omnikey.

Just once id like a gameplay demo that isnt a bunch of BS and is representative of what im gonna play.

I don't think anybody thinks Destiny is a small game. People are upset that the scale is significantly shrinking according to what Bungie has said. That's a valid issue.

Even with only 4 planets I can see myself playing this for a long long time. The PvP is fantastic and that was only with 1 game mode and no factions to increase. PvE is great as well and I just love going to into explore and just messing around. It will be a fantastic multiplayer game and can't wait for it to come out.

Now as far as the season pass goes for more content, I'm definitely going to hold out on that cause I do not know what to expect from it at all.

If you are that cautious with game purchases I don't get why you pre-order in the first place.

people arent getting what they were told or hoping for. why is that not valid?

This is kind of insane in a post-No Man's Sky world. I know that game isn't out yet, but still.

No Mans Sky is procedurally generated, no doubt it's impressive but playable space aside it's not even close to destiny level of depth.

All that said, Destiny should be bigger than 9? locations. It's effectively borderlands with ship travel between locations.

Not very nice to say, especially because that actually disparages mentally challenged individuals.

Because companies throw $5-10 worth of preorder bonuses in. It is often better to preorder, not open it until some user reviews are out, and return it if the game turns out to be a dud.

LOL people expecting to play the first game our of three for 10 years.....oh god. No reason some of you are confused why the game is shaping to be the way it is. (IE: A normal sci-fi length RPG)

What I expected. The alpha and beta aren't even all of Old Russia and I've played in those for about 40 hours, even with a low level cap and being unable to equip better gear for most of it.

Agreed. There are plenty of things to do in Old Russia like I said. There are still plenty of locked areas, not to mention further side missions on those areas. Lets not forget all the loot you can find which means you have to grind. Lastly playing solo and with buddies changes things a bit, the pacing is different. Oh and the difficulties add another layer to the mix. Im sure they will add "Legendary" or something after the hard level for further challenge. Real talk, we spent more time yersterday beating two level 12 Knights in the Moon map and it was fun and challenging.

How many of those hours was repeating the same content over and over though? I don't want to have to grind and repeatedly play through the same encounters to artificially increase my play time.

Pre-orders are often cancelable and you get bonuses for preorder. I'm keeping my preorder, but I can understand why this news might make a person wary and cancel until they see what the scale of the game really is like after release.

because borderlands 2 was thrown in the bushes as well

Still a big game.

But I do agree the game is shrinking significantly. I have been under the impression the game would be 10x more massive considering how they talked about it in videos and in EDGE magazine last year.

It's a shame.

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
The only time it has seemed truly unbalanced is when you are on the moon map and the other team has all the vehicles and you cant overthrow them. And Bungie has already said they are fixing that.

The mars map is even worse. 2/4 of the stuff we could play were not good.

It's actually a joke how it takes about 3 seconds to go from overlooking C to look into B's room.

Yet A -> B is about 10 seconds or more
Mars is probably one of the worst designed maps I've ever played.

And coming from Bungie that is just rich.

I really hope there are some more compelling PvP modes and maps in the final game.

It's absurd the kind of damage control some people are doing here and acting like anybody with an issue with need are crazy or retarded. Bungie said outer areas are exploitable on Old Russia. That was a lie. The game kills you for stepping out of very tight boundaries and the outer area's assets look worse so I doubt the full game will let you. Bungie talked about Old Chicago and Mumbai Push as one of the first things about revealing the game and now they aren't in the game? How is it crazy to be upset about these lies?

All the people defending and saying "well old Russia still has some places!" aren't actually addressing that we were sold a much larger vision than what we're getting in the final game.

How many of those hours was repeating the same content over and over though? I don't want to have to grind and repeatedly play through the same encounters to artificially increase my play time.

2 hours on story missions
1 hour on PvP (4 maps, 2 modes, roughly an hour to experience 2 modes on all maps)
30 minutes at the Strike
30 minutes at the Tower

If I remove all repetition, all grinding and tryout of different classes, there's 4+ hours of content in the beta alone.

Let's quadruple that, and it's 20 hours of non-repetitive content, minimum.

Being sold on a 'vision' is the worst mistake possible.

Gameplay + confirmation of approximate content. Affirm those two things, then decide whether or not that sells you. Not a bunch of concept art and devs using bombastic language like 'explore da universe' , 'become legend!.'

The thing that's killing me about this is the core combat is really fun for PvE and the world design is gorgeous.

Yet there is so much that bothers me. There is too much restriction with invisible walls and drop off cliffs to simulate scope. Yes, you can see for miles, but you can't go there (contrary to what that bungie video suggested earlier in the thread). You look like you should be able to climb huge structures, but then you're suddenly limited by a invisible wall in one direction, and another when you try to jump onto something that's seems reachable. That's incredibly frustrating. The sparrows also make the world seem even smaller as you can get anywhere extremely fast.

And after a few days of fighting in the crucible, I really don't like it. The only thing I like about it is that the vehicles with guns in the larger maps are amazing to drive. I feel disconnected from my weapons and environment. I consider myself serviceable in FPS games, but I frequently just end up doing terrible, even in games with no skill boosts, I find myself getting schooled so bad I started to think people were using some sort of cheat/bug. Does anyone understand what I'm talking about?

I'll preface this by saying I've enjoyed the game so far.

Borderlands is the standard for console looters for me. The loot in that game was so damn fun when combined with the skill trees. Damage multipliers, crazy effects, odd glitches, and just plain strange. My concern is that there is might be little room for experimentation with the loot pool, and that it will all be superficial. There might not be a gazillion guns in BL2, but there is quite the broad range. Throw in class mods, shields, relics and combinations of characters and you had a ton of possibilities.

With Destiny I am seeing everyone at level 20 within a day or two, playing through repetitive waves of enemies to grind for enough space bucks for a loading screen starship, cape or banner for your gamer tag? The smaller than expected world size is just another thing that makes me scratch my head.

What I find myself thinking is that I can't wait for next gen Borderlands. Hopefully there is something to this game that I am not seeing.

Yep people who don't share your thoughts are "retards".

Are you serious?
Edit: also yeah even if there are more story missions on earth, they better not be only in old Russia...

They also kept pitching the game's world as being so unpredictable, even Bungie doesn't know what's going to happen in it. Instead, we got the most repetitive "open world" I've ever seen. A game that makes Dragon's Dogma appear dynamic and alive.
And it took them close to a year to vaguely clarify that our customizable spaceships will only be used during loading screens.

It's quite amazing that after spending a full year with only the promise of "Older Russia" and some unused concept art keeping a small part of the forum interested in the game people still manage to claim that we have ourselves to blame for expecting more from Destiny.
Screw our guardians, it's the way they handled PR that might "become legend".

They said each planet has a campaign the size and length of Halo Reach. Can you see yourself doing story campaigns 5x-7x as long as the beta on just Old Russia?

All under the assumption that the Beta was cut directly from the full game.
