Destiny: Only one area per planet

You guys are seriously buying that rumor?

That can't be the complete list. There has to be more missions on Earth because how else are we going to access King's Watch, the Jovian Complex and the Seraphim Vault? And Bunker RAS-2. I really doubt that areas that big and closed off don't have any more significance than just explorable areas.

There is no way that list has all the content. That would make absolutely no sense considering all the areas we've seen in both Old Russia and the Moon.

People are so disappointed at recent stuff about Destiny they gonna believe anything even if it's bullshit.

Will wait till Bungie's official confirmation.

Can't you already go to all these places? I flew through a bunch of "restricted" areas on the sparrow, not much to be seen. Probably opens up when you reach a higher level.

I'm really unsure about buying day 1 now. We'll see.

Also if this is true, the thing that I don't understand is, the levels that are there aren't even that interesting. Sure the Moon is fine I'm sure that'll turn out alright, but Old Russia is boring and lifeless, there's no friendly NPC interaction, lots of bland corridors and buildings, it's basically the epitome of an RPG/MMO starting zone and if that's the only Earth level we get at launch I'm going to be pretty ticked off.

Destiny is Destiny

Destiny is not Borderlands or WoW or Diablo or PSO or any other game that you think or feel it's trying to shoehorn itself into
Yes it borrows elements that feel like the game plays exactly like the games I mentioned before but some really try to force the opinion that it's a carbon copy/knock-off version of said game

The game tries to incorporate different features and molds them to make them stand out on their own merits and if you see these features in other games down the line, it will trigger the opinion of "Hey Destiny did that".

First the weapons
We in the BETA have only got to play with roughly 5% of the armory
Common (White) and Uncommon (Green) versions
Uncommons lets us try to level up our guns and pick and choose the upgrades that fit your play-style
Borderlands trademark of "Bajillion of Guns" is just 8-10 versions of guns of certain types with color swaps and the stats which make it multiply thousand fold
Destiny on the other hand squeezes out all the trash that BL gun generator would create, by offering you guns at tier levels, with a few abilities that you would chase after
Getting a Cydonia Common from a Uncommon has different stats (DUH!), but when you get upgraded into the Uncommon tier, it's not over. Do you want the ability the gun offers or do you chase down another one and hope it fits your play-style
You could have 3 Cydonia Uncommons, the base stats and upgrade stats might all be the same, it's the ability of what the bonus that gun offers might have a long lasting affect
Do you want Cydonia that gives you faster reload after getting a precision kill or the bottom half of the gun clip does more damage or 1 bullet in the chamber does excessive damage or a head-shot reduces your cool-down for your grenade.

Enemies from the Alpha to the Beta have been overhauled
In the Alpha a lot of the enemies felt brain-dead, just waiting to be killed with the occasional one going "Oh Shit a Guardian I should find cover and not die".
In the Beta, if you get near them they all try to scatter and find cover and try to out maneuver you by flanking or lobbing grenades to push you out of cover
If you try to be a pick off the enemies from afar, sooner or later your ammo will deplete and venturing out will be a necessity
If you try to kill a few, move towards their cover and force them to adjust, you can keep killing them and earn ammo to keep the firefight going
The constant respawning is needed, cause when you are in area, it's not only you
There maybe other Guardians who might need them for their bounties/missions (objective)/grinding (getting drops)
The game does feel a little more alive with the constant respawns, if you killed a group and they spawned on 5-7 minutes intervals, the game would be barren as fuck
Rocket Yard where a lot of Guardians dwell due to the Strike mission starting point and Glimmer farming players, if given the 5-7 respawn rate, the game would be a wait-a-thon of enemies to reappear to be killed

Old Russia we as players have experienced in the Beta is just a little morsel we got to play around in
There are areas locked off by high level enemies that wreck you with a few hits to let you know you aren't suppose to be here
Some Guardians go #YOLO and bypass this and see what is on the other side
Some areas are locked off (some Guardian used their magic to venture to these areas already) to keep them secret until retail so you don't feel Old Russia has been played to death by the the time retail hits
The Moon alone revitalized a lot of players hope and turned down the fears of it being a copy/paste job through the different planets (Zones)
You could go do the story and quickly get it over with, but Destiny players who will be playing this for awhile, love the Exploring aspect more than anything
This is what I did, before even triggering the first aspect of the story mission

So for all of you that finished that mission in 5 minutes (which is such a bullshit exaggeration), it took me 90 minutes, 75 minutes was me just exploring the new area, then getting lost on how to get back, going back to orbit, starting the mission again and finishing it in 15 minutes
We don't know how the other planets will shape out to be, if the Earth and Moon so far has shown us that, we really have only seen 15% of the game

Content speaking the BETA to some feel played out
If you played since Alpha of course it would be
This is not a final product, this is not all there is to this game, I do get some of the complaints and understand some of your frustrations, but some of you really are hanging onto a single comment or stuff from years back and holding a grudge for that reason
This game what it tried to set itself up for some has paid it off in spades for others not
The game would be more open if it was only X1 and PS4, but with the large playerbase that the 360/PS3, plans changed and they system requirements the old gen has attached to it has changed the scope of the game
PC players also get the game and they will have access hopefully to mods and other tricks and will really make the game sing on their platform

For me Destiny is a great new way to play a FPS. It offers me PvE (grinding, loot, most likely pattern learning with Strike missions, and Raid bosses), PvP (Changing up the basic format of certain types and shifting them around to make them feel fresh), Co-Op (you and 2 of your buddies can go have fun in many ways) and Exploration (which not a lot of FPS's do).
Before I had roughly 20+ GAFfers on my PSN friends list, now I have over 100+
The social aspect really has made me appreciate how everyday I get invites to join up and go play

That is what Destiny really is, Explore the frontier, absorb the environment your in and be a Legenadry badass while doing it

I wish the ship actually had a purpose and not just cosmetic reasons (have some rail shooting stages ala Ratchet/Panzer Dragoon/Star Fox. Same with the sparrow. I know that just serves to get people around the world faster, but maybe have some race mini games or something.

That stuff is probably a rip from the Beta Build. Do we even know how old that build is, or if the build contained all the stuff for launch already? No. All that is saying is that stuff is definitely in, doesn't guarantee anything about it being the only content for launch though.

TBF last time this happened in this sort of game ala Titanfall the majority was real as in the vast majority, just a few things were missing. Don't know if it's definately a data mine as the Titanfall one actually brought out unreleased game assests. But if it is It's likely largely correct with odd bits and pieces missing.

Shit. I have the Limited Pre Ordered. To be honest if there werent so many flaws with the Beta this wouldnt be an issue. However, the static mob spawns, holding down buttons, lack of drops, lack of currency drops, similar enemies, and weird difficulty curves combined with this new information make me want to cancel. I think unless a lot of changes are made to the main game that this will be a bust.

I love Diablo III because it is actually randomly generated and feels new each time. It also has great item dropping systems in place. You dont spend an hour to pick up 3 useless items.

Man why do promising games like this, Disney Infinity, and Titanfall end up so gimped?

If the mechanics were there it wouldnt be a deal breaker, but they aren't even close. I'm so disappointed.

No, there are places that are completely blocked off and can only be gotten into by glitching. This list does not account for why that stuff is there. It doesn't really make any sense.

So you cancelled your preorder based on the fact that you had fun with the game and we have no real confirmation of how much content the game has? Bravo, sir.

No one has said that yet.

Calm down, dudes.

I'm canceling my preorder too. I only pre order if I'm absolutely sure its going to be an amazing game. Now I think it'll be good but not worth a pre order. Pre ordering is completely unnecessary for pretty much all games.

I see a lot of people saying this and I honestly don't see where the replay value was, I feel like I missed an entire aspect of the Beta. I finished the story missions in a couple of hours, and explored Old russia for maybe an hour before I got bored of those beacon objectives where you just go and shoot enemies until they drop X item.

Like, what was there that people put 30 hours into?

I spent 13 hours, can see what people spent so much time on--grinding to unlock the best gear/ships/items you could get. There were people in the Destiny Beta thread who spent hours playing Iron Banner just to get those items that you couldn't even use.

considering Bungie added space flight to Halo Reach, I'd say there is a good chance down the line they will add space combat.

i wonder if the game's a huge success Activision will buy Bungie somewhere down the line, even though im sure Bungie would prefer to stay independant at the moment

IIRC, the contract stated that Bungie own the IP while Activision holds distribution and publishing.

This still sounds awkward. Why would a game like this have so little content? Is there an actual confirmation from Bungie or what?

No confirmation from Bungie yet. Why some people are already jumping to conclusions is beyond me.

I kind of understand it for some of the other planets/moons but if Old Russia is the only explorable place on Earth then that's reeeaaaaallly disappointing.

Do we know much about Bungie's ownership structure? I remember MS said they were going to retain a minority stake. Are the employees the majority shareholders?

Eh the silence is disquieting. This isn't the sort of thing you allow to stew and misinformation to spread if false. I can't imagine why they'd want to wait Outside of their being some truth. This isn't a rumour they supposedly said it themselves.

Well I played a hunter and titan, leveled them both to 8, did multiple strike runs to gear them up, played PvP, played missions multiple times with different friend groups.

Probably boils down to a matter of gaming habit. I'm the guy who lost months of his life to WoW, creating new characters, leveling and running the same missions over and over for the fun of getting new gear and experiencing things with friends.

Not everybody has fun replaying content I guess. For me, though, this game is going to be a huge time sink. I'm hooked.

Only complaint was the mission structures were redundant. But I'm excited to see where Bungie takes this trilogy. This is just the first glimpse at where Bungie is taking us.

Got it. Maybe it has to do with that Playstation exclusive strike mission? Will be interesting to hear if Bungie has anything to say about this.

It's not. Not unless the strike will have you go to several different locations across Old Russia, as well as the locked off sections on The Moon

Well, they haven't denied it. :/

if its true Bungie might not say anything about it until after its released.
I hope not.

Exactly. This is something you shouldn't allow to spread (if it's false).

We saw the Mars moon Phobos too. At least in PVP. I wonder if it is in PVE as well.

Edit: I feel like the moon Titan HAS to be in this game as well. It just has to.

From Bungie.net and Destinydb

All right guys, I have been waiting to post this, but last night DeeJ confirmed, that there will be 1 explorable location per planet and this basically also confirmed, that the following source is realible:

http://destinydb.info/activities

I browsed this website a lot and realized how endgame content is going to work. To sum it up:

Before you read on: this may or may not be how the final product is going to look like. It is just a speculation based on the website mentioned above. I do not want to convince you about anything, but I'm sure if you browse that site you will come to a similar conclusion.

Beware, this may contain spoilers!!!

- 4 explorable locations (Earth, Moon, Mars, Venus)
- 6 strikes (1 Earth, 1 Moon, 2 Mars, 2 Venus. However one of the Mars strike is PS exclusive.)
- 1 raid (The Vault of Glass)
- 16 pvp maps

It's already been told, that we are going to hit lvl 20 quickly. So what happens after this?

We are going to have the possibility to run a random strike (accessible from the orbit) on a higher level:
-lvl18
-lvl20
-lvl22
-lvl24

For example the Devil's Lair is going to be there on those difficulties.

But how can you achieve a level over 20? It is well documented, that you can get to lvl 20 by collecting XP. In order to gain additional levels, you need to obtain gear with "light stat" . Light gives you additional level.

So, what you are going to do, when you hit 20? You will go to lvl 20 strikes to get gear with light. I suspect, that the strikes and rewards will be scaled, so that you have to spend a lot of time on a level in order to get access to the next one.

What happens, when you hit lvl 24 and finished farming all the high level strikes? You go to weekly strikes

This means, that every week there is going to be a strike on an even higher level.
-lvl24
-lvl26
-lvl28

For example Devil's Lair is going to be this strike from 09.sept. - 16.sept. And so on. This mode is called: Nightfall

After you cleared all the weekly strikes you go to the Vault of Glass. It will be on lvl27, lvl31 and lvl31.

EDIT:

I also found something called "Activity Power" associated to every activity on that website. I think it's the true scale of difficulty of each activity. For example:

lvl 8 - Devil's Lair = Activity Power 0,37
lvl 20 - Devil's Lair = Activity Power 8
lvl 24 - Devil's Lair = Activity Power 53
lvl 28 - Devil's Lair = Activity Power 98
lvl 31 - Vault of Glass = Activity Power 132

This will take time Guardians!

Silence on what? This thread? It's weekend...

With all my respect, when you have a new 500M$ IP launching in one month, with the beta period ending and this... "reveal", now... I really hope you have some employees working as hard as they can on PR every day of the week. Seriously, so much money at stake for a big company like Activision to begin upsetting potential consumers and start canceling pre-orders as we're seeing in this very thread.

But that is just my opinion :D

They really haven't been confirming much pf anything though. We pretty much have to figure it out for ourselves.

Its a little scary they are selling expansions without revealing exactly whats in the core game. Maybe that is intentional...

In the grand scheme of things, this one stupid thread on a message board isn't going to determine if Destiny is a success or not.

At all.

Like not even close. GAF probably makes up less than one percent of all sales on games.

Delusions of grandeur.

So is this going to turn into another Bioshock Infinite where the promises made by the devs aren't kept?

These types of questions are so annoying. Like how the hell does someone even answer this?
