Resident Evil HD Remaster confirmed for PS3/PS4/360/XB1/PC

Potential overreactions aside...

Maybe we should start calling this generation the "generation of heartbreak."

I say this because over the years, the thought of a true up-res HD "remaster" of sorts created a longing in certain Resident Evil fans. The outcome of taking the original game and making it look absolutely amazing on HD televisions with newer and better technology seemed like a dream. It also seemed...obvious? Plus everyone kind of figured Capcom kept the original assets in order to eventually do this remaster once everything was cleared with Nintendo.

But now, while it's still exciting in a sense (seeing as the game is finally moving beyond Gamecube/Wii), the result seems to be leaving many people lukewarm and cynical. Resident Evil Remaster looks alright but it's not what people were thinking of when they conjured up the idea of REmake in HD. It doesn't look horrendous but it does have that "smear" quality and I have to wonder what that'll look like on 1080p on a 40" set or larger.

Plus overall the game is being released at the full $50 which seems like a mistake (and a kind of transparently greedy one at that).

I don't know. It just seems like gamers sometimes set themselves up for disappointment and devs/pubs like Capcom are, at least in the current gen, "willing to unimpress." You're breaking peoples' hearts, Capcom.

REmake is still one of the best games ever made so hopefully A LOT of people will at least be able to enjoy it now. The silver lining. I still don't understand the lack of Wii U though; it honestly couldn't take THAT much more effort to bring it over and keep some of that fan good will.

REmake was already a great looking game. Honestly the graphics look fine. I can't believe people are so into graphics when we are getting what is arguably one of the greatest if not the greatest survival horror game on all platforms.

Maybe for people who have already played it it doesn't warrant another dip but for newcomers this should be a MUST buy.

Why the hang-up in having series on their "home"? It's a fucking plastic box playing a game, enjoy the games not the hardware.

CONSOLE LOYALTY IS SERIOUS BUSINESS. How DARE they betray the console that fed, clothed and bed them! I WILL NOT STAND FOR IT

If it was a faithful port, I'd be happy. But it's not. The shots we've seen show a worse product than the original. Calling it a "Remaster" is pretty gross.

How in the fuck is that possible for one of the biggest gaming companies in the world? Even my local company keeps more than one backup of each file, texture, 3dmodel, script, etc...

I refuse to believe that capcom doesn't have the textures or the 3d models used to render the mansion, come the fuck on :(
IIRC, SEGA had to emulate Virtua Fighter 2 on PS2 because they had lost the original source code.

We could have a proper HD remaster (whatever) if Capcom had done their job and kept the original source files. Even without them, they could have done a much better job than this.

I call the platforms where the series had its four entries before the REmake its home, just like some might call Nintendo platforms Rare's home, or Xbox Bioware's.

Uhhh... Bioware would actually be more at home on PC.

So I'm curious. What exactly about the giant, faceless corporation of Sony makes them worth your loyalty and adoration? I've never understood why people would care so much about a company that only regards them as a wallet.

Someone on Capcom Unity is claiming that there was page up for Resident Evil 2 HD as well:

http://www.capcom-unity.com/residen...39/resident-evil-2-hd-remake-is-happening-too

The page he links to has been taken down though. Can anyone here confirm that this page existed? This being the internet, chances are that it never existed in the first place, and that this is just a well-timed troll.

These things happen literally all the time on Unity. Always the same thing. Apparent official site appears but is taken down before anyone on the forum can see besides the OP, etc.

still... more people are going to be able to play it now. Those who didnt have a GC or those who emulate.

True, but is still a missed opportunity. Lots of people have been asking for an HD version of Remake, because pre-renderered backgrounds in 480p didn't look on emulation, is one of those games that really needed a full "remake" at HD resolution.

Then here we are, upscaled at 1080p and sharpened to beyond meassure to hide that fact.

Is this a pun on PlayStation home or are you such a fan you call anything PS related home?

It's not funny to joke about his home man, Playstation is in his blood...he's that serious about videogames.

What did you expect them to do?
The GC Re is perfect...adjust it for widescreen and polish it a little bit is all they need to do...

Except they didn't really adjust it for widescreen and they haven't actually polished anything besides adding some awful sharpening filter probably older than the original game. The new character models, at least for Chris, look completely soulless too.

Oh my God, how dare they. Those are the worst in-progress screens I have ever seen and I'm not sure I can take it. This is really the worst thing that's ever happened to me.

I can't wait for the millions of people to buy it on 360 and X1 in Japan.

Damn, I think it might even outsell the PS3 and PS4. Dude, you are hurt or some shit about the past and you are still salty now. Let it go dude. It is a new generation.

It'll probably sell good on the Xbox platforms as well, considering how much RE5 sold on the 360, which is more than REmake and RE4 combined on the GC. It's pretty much given, it'll sold more there than it would on the Wii U.

RE1 was what brought me back to gaming after half a decade's hiatus, so not being able to play its remake up until now was without a doubt souring.

Keep up the good fight soldier!

Is this better?

Turning a well-used phrase for another.

The angst in this thread is palpable. I've never played RE1 much less REmake, so I have no qualms waiting for this to hit the <$10 range during a Steam sale.

I really hope Sony invites you over for dinner, gives you shelter, comforts you when you are hurt, protects you against the big bad Nintendo. That's family right there.

Such an amazing game, I urge anybody who has never tried it to give it a go. Will 100% buy at launch on PS4.

Actually remastering RE with 3D environments. Or re-render those backgrounds in higher resolution. Such a game that had a huge impact on survival horror genre deserves that form of treatment at least.

There was some picture at the bottom of the Famitsu article in the OP, was something like "The REAL BIO2" or something like that. I wasn't sure if it was implying an RE2 remake or not. Maybe it's still there, I'm at work now and can't get to the Famitsu link.

I call the platforms where the series had its four entries before the REmake its home, just like some might call Nintendo platforms Rare's home, or Xbox Bioware's.

One: Rare had far more games published on other consoles prior to their output on SNES and N64.

Two: Bioware was, first and foremost, a PC-developer and that's where they became famous.

Three: Resident Evil had "exclusivity" for Playstation (we'll ignore the Saturn version of RE1) broken with Dreamcast. Code Veronica X came out about a year and a half AFTER the Dreamcast one. In fact, there were several games that Capcom released exclusively on Dreamcast that took forever to get ported to other consoles, or never saw another port elsewhere. If you were being intellectually honest, you would have got mad far before Mikami and REmake.

Graphics - All that matters even for a port of a game that looks exceptionally good if you take into account when it was released.

Remasters - If it ain't Zelda, it ain't legit.

Ports - What are the benefits of a games being on multiple platforms? Screw that.

Screenshots - More reliable than playing the game.
