Resident Evil HD Remaster confirmed for PS3/PS4/360/XB1/PC

No, sir. Why would you insist that it would be bizarre?

Why isn't it realistic to go back to a master file (hah.. master.. as in, re-master) and save a higher res shot?

Because they wouldn't just call it a remaster. It would have a lot more new to it if they remade all of the backgrounds. I bet they would have just remade the game in 3D and thrown out the backgrounds if they were going to go to those lengths.

Well shit, thuway was actually right. Now I look like a doofus.

Never had a chance to play the GC version so I'll probably end up nabbing this on PC.

Did they?

I don't know, what I'm seeing seems right in line with what I would have expected from a 'remaster'.

When movies release a remastered edition, that means they went back, scanned the film again and got a higher-res image.

When music releases a remastered album, that means they went back to the raw files, twiddled their knobs and mixed the audio again. The definition of remaster: "to make a new master audio recording, now usually digital, from (an earlier recording), to produce compact discs or stereo records with improved sound reproduction."

When games release a remastered video game, I expect them to render what they can at higher resolutions, and recreate what they can't. Otherwise, it's a port.

This HD Remaster is basically releasing a DVD copy of a film on Blu-Ray - but before they do, they throw a few filters over the top. Not only is it worse than the original, but it's in no way appropriate to call it a remaster.

The original backgrounds were made using 3D assets. They just need to take a new picture of those.

Why no Resident Evil 2 Remake? Still, day one for sure

I would love a HD port of RE 2, but capcom ain't going to do it as they'd have to build it from scratch. PlayStation games look real bad now, especially the polygon parts. Easier to take games from the PS2/Dreamcast days, stretch them out and pretend they're HD, lol.

I am still looking forward to this REmake... Remake though.

Hahah Crapcom actually spending money and resources to create a new HD title hahahhaahahahahhahaha

*cries*

Actually, this is the worst part. There are so many games that could be done, so many games that should be done, and a few announced games that should see release day at some point this decade and Capcom announces this?

I don't care how good it is, it is on my personal top 3-5, i don't care. Capcom should be doing other things by now.

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
I told you to sit down before you started to read everything...

Guys, Yoshi needs a hug!

I feel betrayed ;_________________;!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is an old game, not an old movie. I get what you're trying to say, but it doesn't apply.

If it were that easy, I'm sure they would go back and redo it. Chances are it's not as simple as a few clicks. There is a game tied to those images.

I have no desire to pick this up as I already own it for GC, but it's great that others will get to experience this masterpiece. I hope it sells a fuckton so Capcom will either give us RE2make or a brand new game that emphasizes horror.

I know :/

Seriously what did the people expect? They redo all the backgrounds of the game from the scratch to 1080p ?!

Stop complaining and let's wait for more footage specially for PS4 / XBOX1.

Why is it so crazy to expect that? It's been how many years since its release? Especially since it's being called a "Remaster", which is deceiving when it's a port. I'd take a $40+ remaster with new assets over a $20 port (assuming it's priced like Code Veronica HD).

You're comparing taking an original asset and saving the image at a higher resolution, to remaking the whole thing in 3D from scratch?

That's utterly ridiculous.

The Defense Force is strong w/ this one.

I played RE4 HD and it looked terrible, so I'm not getting my hopes up with Cacpcom.

I always thought the reason REmake and Zero didn't get HD versions were the pre rendered backgrounds and that they no longer have the assets. There's only so much you can do with 4:3 SD backgrounds but I wouldn't have imagined it to look this bad.

I understand your point bro, and maybe the game won't look that great, but I see the good side of this "remake" and is that everyone who couldn't play it on the Gamecube will be able to play it.... just let's hope it doesn't look like crap!

I'd be pretty surprised if it were as simple as re-rendering the assets. There's probably a lot of manual touch-up in the final images we see in-game.

Not that doing that sort of touch-up again is unreasonable to ask for or anything, of course.

Is there no 3D option planned for this? The atmosphere and perspective make this an ideal candidate for that kind of display. Is there an issue with the pre-rendered backgrounds or is Capcom just being Capcom?

Upscaling, filtering and cropping the image does not suggest remaster to me.

Maybe it's time for an industry governing body to standardize the marketing behind these kind of things.

It's less about expectations and more about desires. Some of us desire a re-release of this game with a hefty makeover; one that I could say that I'd pay $60 for.

All this talk about quality of the visuals is so unnecessary [especially since the screens are supposedly from oldgen 720p versions]. We are getting a god tier game on new consoles, and tons of people who never had Gamecube [god knows how shitty the sales of it were] and new generations of players will be able to experience it in best possible way.

I am very interested to play it.

nobody said it was easy
they're saying don't call this a remaster or remake. because it's not
it's a port. which is perfectly fine. but calling it remaster implies certain things and lets them charge more money

How many people do you think they stuck to do this "remaster"? How many people does a remaster usually take?

Nearly every HD remaster is farmed out to a third party studio, so in a lot of cases, they're not even taking development staff away from the original studio. There are three big recent exceptions, though: FFX/X-2 HD, Wind Waker HD and TLOU Remastered were both in-house, but those had some pretty significant amount of work done to them, including gameplay rebalancing and generating new assets.

GAF never fails to entertain on how knowledgable their user base claims to be, but then says narrow (but understandable) things like this.

This is a low risk attempt to see how a game like this will do as a multi platform release, with the benefits of tapping into the remaster market in the barest way possible without doing a straight port.

To them, it's [hopefully] easy profit and self-rewarding research.

Exactly, people should stop whinig!
Ohhh...look, we get to play one of the greatest games ever made without having do emulate it or buying a 15 year old console from ebay that barely works. BUT the graphics is not as good as todays games

First of all...screenshots says nothing.

Second of all WHO CARES

I literally just bought this game for the Wii for $15. It works on the Wii U.

And judging by these screens, that may as well be the definitive version.

If the screens are indeed from the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version, then I am very intrigued to see how the Xbox One/PS4 versions look.

Honestly, I'm being optimistic and waiting for the full release or full on game play videos at least. I want to see it in action before we take screenshots and condemn the piss out of it.

This is the weakest shit ever.

Ugh, lame. Come on, Capcom, don't waste this opportunity.
