If Mario was born in America...

...why does he have a stereotypical Italian accent?

His parents were probably immigrants and didn't teach him proper English. I know a lot of kids born in Florida to immigrants that don't ever learn until they go to public school.

Remember when the bosses in Mario 3/World were called Koopa Kids and were explicitly Bowser's children, but then re-releases changed it to "Koopalings"?

Another American canon oddity.

How come more Americans haven't moved to the Mushroom Kingdom?

It seems like a good source of employment with high job security.

Also broken squirt gun = foretelling of Super Mario Sunshine?

Isn't Yoshi supposed to be a race, not a single character?

Oh boy, this is going to be the new "Toad as a race"/"SMB2 Toad is Wario's Woods Toad who is special; NSMB2 Toads say nope"/"Is Toad Toadsworth"/"who the fuck is Captain Toad?"

Yes I know about that name change, I'm talking about all the other stuff, like Mario being an Italian-American born in Brooklyn, "references to the "Mushroom King", and so on.

Oh yeah and the blocks were originally the "Mushroom People" transformed into blocks. Remember that?

You were saying the last time they used Toadstool was in RPG, I was noting it was also in 64.

This confirms that America and the Mushroom Kingdom are on the same place of existence and that Mario has a way to travel freely between the two.

When did they abandon the American Mario canon, anyway?

I think "Princess Toadstool" was the last vestige of that, and that was last seen in Mario RPG.

Peach is still Toadstool, since Toadstool is just her surname.

And it's more natural anyway in the west to have her known by her first name anyway.

So Mario is a Homo Nintendonus, a new branch of the Homo genus.

Fixed. But this is priceless. As an anthropology student, my only qualm is with the lack of proper formating for the binomial nomenclature. It should be Homo nintendonus. I suppose the normal conventions of science start to break down once we start talking Mushroom Kingdom, however.

Mario born in Brooklyn is canon? I thought that was just in the live action movie? I thought Miyamoto said that Mario was born in the Mushroom Kingdom?

It was American canon the same way Sonic was from Mobius and Robotnik was originally a mildmannered scientest named Dr. Kintobor were canon in America in the 90s

Can't wait for Grand Army Plaza to be a stage in Super Mario Dimensions.
