Congratulations, Horii. You finally did it, mane.

Edit for details: out August 20 in Japan, ~1000 yen. There's a 3D trailer on the eShop now.

The features list isn't fully published, and they're saving some stuff for after launch, as always, but it's confirmed to support widescreen and feature the moving cabinet effect present in some of their other arcade ports. It'll also feature both gyro controls and twin-stick controls via Circle Pad Pro.

When are the second set of games coming to USA?

TBA, go pester Sega NA/EU about it(and/or go buy the other Sega 3D Classics if you haven't already), they're the bottleneck. If you turn this thread into a bunch of whining about the eShop I am gonna choke you out.

I bought everything but Ecco the Shitfest and Altered Shit. I did my part.

I'll buy all of the second set though. Gimmie gimmie, sega.

"Seventh installment Sega Series experience to manipulate attack helicopters, appeared to be super power-up. The feeling of floating in the sky of the helicopter unique, I can taste a great power by the stereoscopic 3D. Additional settings arcade cabinet reproduction, such as a gyro sensor operation, of course, the final stage is emerging in the special mode. Battle with the boss of true are waiting."

Pretty sure this has been confirmed to be the final Sega 3D reprint.

The first set was 8 games. Why would the second set only be 5?

It was only planned to have three game (Afterburner 2 / Outrun / Fantasy Zone) but they ended up doing two more: Fantasy Zone 2 DX, because M2 had the source code and was therefore able to port the game relatively easily without impacting the rest of their schedule, and now Thunder Blade, because they're bros and felt like being self-indulgent, I guess.

It's also worth pointing out that, according to this Kotaku interview, the 3D Classics haven't met sales expectations outside of Japan.

Got a source on that?

It was mentioned at the end of the last Game Watch interview they did (FZ2DX).

Fucking awesome. Can't wait till (if?) these come state side. The microsecond these hit the eshop I will grab them. I even bought Altered Beast Sega!

Dang I was hoping for at least a couple more. Streets of Rage 2...

It really sucks about the sales, Super Hang-On and Galaxy Force were the best games I had played all year. Seeing these Sega classics in 3D was really something else. I would get a JP 3DS if the games from this batch don't come to the US.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I mean, that would be a perfect capstone to the series, given the M2 guys' ambitions... but I really hope it's just the end of series 2, and that we're going to be getting a series 3.

Here's what to expect, minus the stereoscopic 3D:

FYI guys. Genesis-MD Super Thunder Blade was not a direct port that just got watered down due to much weaker hardware, different game. It was only loosely based on the arcade, not unlike Space Harrier II.

Those were the first two games released for MD in Japan, at launch in 1988.

Closest home port of arcade Thunder Blade was on the Sharp X68000 computer.

This was a very faithful port, though by no means arcade perfect given X68000 had, at best, half the power of Sega's X-Board. No hardware scaling. Not 60 FPS. Yet, a much better port than After Burner II on the same machine.

So, will I need a Japanese eShop account for this or what?

Horii is a monster programmer with a monstrous Thunder Blade addiction, so of course he'd get his treat. Awesome, so long as the games get localized.

I'm still going to miss an arcade-perfect, 3D portable edition of Power Drift. And yes, Shinobi III is the most reliable choice out of those three. Galaxy Force II has the least amount of content, but it's all very polished and jaw-dropping, while Space Harrier's very accessible and almost as challenging.

ahhh.. .that's alright I guess. Always enjoyed TB okay but I'd say it's not really aged very well. It's not fun in the same way as After Burner or something, although the cabinet itself was pretty incredible in its day (only you, Sega, only you..) and you can bet I'll absolutely grab this if they release over here - but there's definitely a ton of other games from the era which would have been better!

Don't take this as whining, I am just sad that the 3D Classics series is likely all done now (and to echo the sentiments of many, a true shame if they don't release in the West). To be honest I'll probably shell out for a JPN unit if.. I have to...!

Would love to see all 3d classics bundled together as a retail package. Would buy it in a second.

Oh yes! Can't wait to download this :D

Shame it's the last one, but the only other 3D Sega Classic I've bought so far is OutRun 3D so I still have a bunch of these games to play

Just watched the 3D trailer on the eShop... OHMAGOSH that's the most impressive use of 3D I've ever seen. It even puts Galaxy Force II to shame! I've never even played Thunder Blade, but this is an insta-buy for me. Too bad non Japanese 3DS owners probably won't ever get to play it.

So we're gonna start bugging SEGA about this now, right? It's the only way we're getting these outside Japan. Is there a better account to tweet at than just SEGA's main account?

Expected, but great to have it confirmed nonetheless. Day one like most of this series.

Wasn't the last one meant to be something "special" though? Really hope they do another series, feels like there are dozens more games that should get this treatment.

I'll buy this just like I bought all 8 of the first wave, just give me the option to do so. Love the music in this game.
