I don't understand why you'd laugh. His post is completely rational. Nobody should want to support this. Millions of fans are now disappointed.

This is crap...

I have both systems, just so I can play exclusives, but there is no way I am buying this.

You have exclusives that are made in house.

You have exclusives, like the recent Sunset Overdrive, where the developer gets to keep control of their product, so staying on one system makes sense.

You have exclusives, like Bayonetta 2, where one of the big companies helps fund the game which would have never been made otherwise.

With all of these I have no problem buying the game and is the reason I own all the major systems.

Then you have crap like this where one company pays to keep the game off other systems. This is complete anti-consumer shit. This is not helping the gamer. This is not creating exciting content for your fans. This is not making me want to support your company by hiring the most talented artist in the industry and giving them a chance to wow me. This is 100% complete mafia bullshit of taking out all competition and leaving me one single choice.

fuck you I am not supporting this...

Pretty much.

THE WORDS! They'll drift away without the _!
Would be pretty surprising if this wasn't timed.

I can see why MS would want this, but it really does nothing for someone who already owns a Xbone.. so meh.

Like the RE exclusivity on Dreamcast and later, GameCube, this is probably not a smart decision long-term for overall brand strength for the Tomb Raider franchise.

In any event, the Tomb Raider reboot was a very disappointing game, so it's not like this news really impacts me much at all. I would only be interested in the game if it looks to be a much different and much-improved product over its predecessor, and the jury is still out on that front (though I doubt it changes much since the transition to straight-forward shooter was popularly received).

Still, sucks for those who liked the last game and were looking forward to playing it on PC/Playstation.

Because Sony announces that they are CREATING exclusives, MS announces that they are PAYING to keep games off other systems.

Yeah I think this nails it. I can't even think of 3rd party exclusives Sony buys... Bloodborne perhaps, but it seems they own the IP and just paying From Software to make it if I'm right? Other than that, they only have like exclusive content for 3rd party games, (Which I'm not too fond of either), but beats whats Xbox has done here.

Maybe if Rise of the Tomb Raider wasnt announced to be multi-plat before, it wouldnt be as big as a deal, though seeing they released TR on PS3/360/PC before and they released TR:DE for PS4/X1, I think people would still reach the conclusion they were paid to keep the game off other platforms.

why do you care? wasnt it rated lower than Uncharted anyway?

Because maybe people who enjoy that genre of games buys a Playstation to play that genre of games since Sony has a first party studio making them.

This feels like MS attempting to force the hand of Uncharted genre fans to also buy an XBO, but it seems like a dumb idea. Especially if it's timed exclusive. PS owners will simply play UC4 instead and wait for the TR release.

Something tells me it's timed.

Looks like MS is buying exclusivity rights again, Ryse and Overdrive chose the XBONE because the developers chose too but this?

This just perplexes me.

Doesn't that make kind of sense? Instead of hoping that it will do better this time they just share the development cost with MS. MS will probably not profit much, but square most definitely will.

Plus they get guaranteed aggressive marketing budget from MS.

I've not seen such a massive negative reaction to an exclusive announcement. Every Tomb Raider forum is furious and the tumblr post is filled with annoyed people.

Are you surprised? If Tomb Raider had a community, it was on PC and PlayStation. That is where it started, especially the PC.

Going full exclusive was pretty expensive for Microsoft I assume.

Not too happy if it is exclusive to Xbox. Although I like the look of that white Xbox console, it was pretty smart, and there's the Halo collection I guess, but having to pay for a new console and run two subscriptions? This is all very triggering.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
When has Sony bought an exclusive 3rd party game lately? Let alone a sequel that was on EVERYTHING?

The only example that comes to mind is Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, and there was definitely some outcry with that as it was announced and unveiled as a PC + PS4 title.

Probably timed. Lots of weird stressing of 2015 everywhere. If it is timed, it's kind of a dick move to spin it like that and then later down the road say 'OH HAY WE NEVER SAID IT WAS ACTUALLY EXCLUSIVE JUST EXCLUSIVE 2015 LOLOLOL' and expect that to be okay.

If it is full on exclusive, good move by MS.

I'm pretty sure MS paid the amount of lost sales on other platforms unless SE is really stupid and settled for a lower amount

Still though. You don't make a NEW franchise successful by keeping on one platform. Especially a platform that's not selling as well as the other. Why would you fuck over the people that played the first game?

I was going to get a Xbone because I wanted to play Sunset Overdrive and maybe some of the launch titles I missed, but this makes me want skip the entire system. Destructive tactics by MS. I don't want to support this. Fund development, don't spend to lock things away.

How do we know MS didn't have some hand in development?

Based on the way it's worded, we can safely assume that it is.
And with how much the previous episode sold there's no way it's not a timed exclusive.

Microsoft should really get some more internal studios so they don't have to pull meaningless stuff like this. And we would be getting some games.

If they think that tomb raider has system selling potential, then they are sorely mistaken.

I take offense to that letter to the fans, though. We're not stupid.

When I don't own either a PS4 or a Xbox One it's the exclusives that I look at when I'm looking to make a purchase. Tomb Raider on it's own isn't going to get me but it adds to the whole package. If I were a fan of Tomb Raider without an Xbone though I would get pretty upset as well.

Comparing Persona to Tomb Raider? Plus it's not like Sony or Nintendo pays them to keep Persona off other consoles. They are smaller company with a niche demographic, so it makes sense to publish it strategically where the fan base is at. As they don't have the financial weight to take risks. I can't say the same for a AAA franchise. Plus the key being here that MS is paying to keep it from others.

That's why I think it's fucked. I own and X1 and i won't support that.

Is it so different from what is going on with bloodborne?

Bloodborne is Sony/From making a new IP instead of calling the game Demon's Souls 2.

TR is a multiplat game that was shown at the Sony conference at E3 and was expected to be everywhere as per usual.

PC fans are probably the most screwed over in this since they have nothing to do with console wars.

Sony moneyhats an indie game: it's ok.
Microsoft moneyhats an AAA game: it's not ok.

Umm are you serious? Firstly, indies aren't nearly as big and important as AAA games, and secondly, the big problem is that this is the sequel to a game that was on other platforms.

What´s all the talk about timed ??

Every official source said that this is a complete exclusive.

MAYBE it´s coming to PC down the line but we don´t know that.

This doesn’t mean that we’re walking away from our fans who only play on PlayStation or on PC. Those are great systems, with great partners, and amazing communities. We have Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris coming to those platforms this December, and Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition is available on PS4.

We know that there are probably many more questions and concerns. Please do send them to us, and we’ll answer to the best of our ability. Meanwhile we’re going all out to try and make something truly special - the most ambitious Tomb Raider game ever built.

I have a question, Darrell Gallagher. It's all well and good that you're trying to assuage PC and PlayStation fans here in light of this move, but what about the Wii U?! You couldn't even be bothered to consider Nintendo at all in your message about supporting other platforms!

Nope, Bayonetta 2 was dead before Nintendo coming in. Different situation.

I don't think it's unreasonable to surmise that RotTR was unviable before Microsoft stepped in, given all the rhetoric about how they didn't meet expectations until quite late on, and there's no option to rerelease as a Definitive Edition this time around.

In one of the recent threads about "Why are you opposed to remasters", I said that I wasn't opposed to remasters in themselves, but I felt they were indicative of a greater problem with funding, budgeting, and producing games within reasonable timescales. This could be construed as the next stage of that process.

LOL, thread closed due to the hating. Oh CD, what have you done....

The mod there is in a bad situation because it's the main talking point right now, but he's also in very close contact with Crystal Dynamics. I'm not really sure what he's going to do. Because that conversation is just bleeding into the General conversation thread about it now.
