Rise of the Tomb Raider timed Xbox exclusive for Holiday 2015 (No PS/PC, SE publish)

Person that told me about many MS 'things' previously is telling me it's indeed a timed exclusive.

so many one year timed exclusives hehehe .... but ontopic so much confusion about this game's exclusivity ... maybe its still in flux kind of like how titanfall was timed but then got fully brought out..

I was considering reluctantly picking an Xbone up for the MCC knowing full well the shit Microsoft has been pulling.

Ain't no way it's happening now.

Good. I doubt that CD would abandon their PS fans completely. This deal probably will help ensure that they make enough profit on the game to keep making more. Still sucks for die hard TR fans on PS, but at least UC4 is coming out at around the same time, should be good.

Didn't really need further elaborarion, but hopefully we can put this to rest. In the future i hope everyone learns a lesson : PR words are chosen carefully for a reason. They're chosen by people who have entire meetings around how to phrase 2 sentences. If they choose "launching exclusively on Xbox One" over "Coming exclusively to Xbox One" there's a good reason for it.

I'll play it when it comes to PC. If that is never, then I guess there are other games.

Too bad though. I liked 2013 a lot more than I should have.

If you hate MSFT for this move, then it means you had already decided against buying an Xbone before this

If you hate MS for this you must be pretty passionate about Tomb Raider because hate is a strong feeling. If you're that passionate about Tomb Raider, you'll get a copy on the Xbox One or 360.

Seems like a very short sighted decision by Square Enix.

While I'm sure MS gave them a huge amount of money (certainly more then anough to cover the lost sales), they should be concerned with the damage this will do to the brand. Future games, movie tie-ins, merchandising, etc. will all be worth substantially less due to this decision.

Honestly, the move reeks of desperation. Both on MS's and SE's part. Perhaps SE was desperate for a cash infusion.

this is actually an interesting situation. Certainly different than TitanFall.

TitanFall is absolutely lost sales. EA will never see a single penny from TitanFall (first game) from Playstation gamers. However EA also signed that game pre-generation launch so MS probably got a pretty (relatively) sweet deal, especially with how dominant 360 was in the US and UK (shooter markets).

This isn't entirely lost sales. Whether a timed exclusive on the standard edition or a Definitive Edition released the following year... either way S-E will eventually see some of those "lost" sales. So really all MS has to pay for are the non-lapsed sales.. i.e. the TRULY lost sales. My guess is that is actually probably a smaller unit number than the TitanFall moneyhat was.

I can't believe some people are saying this is a bad move by Microsoft. This is a GENIUS move.

Sure, you may be butthurt now, but the hurt passes, and what you'll see this holiday are the games each system has to offer.

If you hate MSFT for this move, then it means you had already decided against buying an Xbone before this, so you are mad because you'll not be able to enjoy this particular game. But if you had an Xbone on your plans, or if you were considering it, then this move will increase the odds of you getting the Xbone.

It's a genius move because it helps to create a brilliant lineup for fall 2015, which is looking strong a year out.

YOU'VE GOT TO BE FUCKING SHITTING ME.

This game was shown a few months ago as a multi platform title. Now all of a sudden it's exclusive to XOne? This is next level fakery. Miss me with talk of Sony does it too. Name one time a game was shown at E3 as a multiplat for a Microsoft console and then two months later it's suddenly exclusive.

Fuck their eventual definitive edition with T-Rex cock while I'm at it. They thought 3.4 million was failure as multiplat well wait until they receive news of these sales. They're missing out on a larger installed base hungry for titles. The PS3 version outsold both Xone and X360 versions alone but FUCK SONY. I had the Tomb Raider definitive edition in my cart but fuck that, them, and their game.

Citing Bloodborne is pointless because Sony is playing an active role in development.
Citing No Man's Sky is pointless because it's coming to Xone.

How much did Microsoft shell out for this console exclusive?

This is moneyhatting on a new level where budgets are very high. I'd be shocked if they spent less than $200 mill.

Suffering From Success
It should really be fixed to take out Destiny, Watch_Dogs, Mortal Kombat, whichever NBA game it's representing, MLB2K unless that's The Show being represented (which it probably is), Elder Scrolls Online, and yeah as much as it hurts Sony fans MGS too, cause none of those games are exclusive. Is the 2014 Tomb Raider even PS4 exclusive? Mural seems like desperate propaganda.

This isn't any different from Microsoft listing all games on their posters to show how great Xbox is, multiplatform and exclusive.

Yeah, it is puzzling. You also have to wonder what this is going to do to sales of the Osiris Tomb Raider game on PS4/PC. I can't imagine people will be willing to support CD after this.
Which would be stupid given that CD probably didn't have much oversight of the decision, SE management made the deal, no need to take it out on the developers. I will still get the Osiris game and when RoTR turns up on PS4 I'll get that as well if it is any good.

"Punishing" a developer for the decisions of the publisher makes no sense. The blog posts is a bit much but it's obviously just a piece of PR fluff.

How is this a weird decision? I hate to say it, but Square needs money and Microsoft has money. 1 + 1 = 2

What SE needs is to reclaim the respect and trust of their old huge fan base. Something they will definitely not achieve by choosing "sides".

maybe they will get a lot of money now with this deal, but in the long run I think its going to damage them even further.

Maybe I am wrong.

Technically, they don't have to mention that it's a timed exclusive even if it is. They're just describing it's current state. Exclusivity obviously isn't always a permanent state, and being descriptive about the kind of exclusivity will just have people wait patiently for the game instead of giving incentive to jump on the XBOX One bandwagon like Microsoft wants. I doubt this game will be wholly exclusive, but hey, stranger things have happened.

Well, there you go. This is how Microsoft competes. They pay publishers good money to remove games from other platforms while in development.

Not nice tbh. This doesn't help the healthy competition between consoles. It's like if right now, Microsoft announced that Destiny will be an X1 exclusive when there's thousands and thousands (maybe even millions) of people who already pre-ordered on PS4.

Bold move, I like it. This gen needs a bit more fire because right now, it's boring as fuck.

Of course, this means I won't be playing the new Tomb Raider, and that's a shame. I'll get by though.

This thread is 3 hours old and has over 3,000 replies. While TR may not sell X1s on its own, as a significant addition to the X1's exclusive library, it will be hard to ignore.

Lol. This thread has a lot of posts because this is a unexpected dick move.

You honestly think the post count signifies consumer interest in TR2?

Silly folks think this will be a challenge to UC4.

I understand screwing the PS community out of this sequel, but why screw PC gamers out of it?

I never understand making a sequel to a multi platform game exclusive to 1 platform.

Play the reboot and the remaster on PS, now if I want to play the sequel I need to fork over another 400 bux? Is Xbox going to get caught up in every anti consumer topic this gen?

Is the game's platform being developed on Xone and then ported to PS4 and PC? or are they going to sit on the PC and PS4 version until exclusivity ends
