Jumped so fucking hard when she killed me. Physically felt shook up lol! No game has done this, not since at least the first Silent Hill. Or The Ring or Blair Witch.

There is tension literally every second of the game. Gah my heart.

Doesn't this take you farther into the demo tho? when you reload you have that table with the bag that talks to you on the right before you actually go into the hallway.

No. I wasn't killed yesterday. Because I did everything in one sitting.. up to the final sequence where you have to trigger the phone.

Reloading means you start after the distortion, during which you can find picture pieces. I did that just now and was killed fairly soon.

Has anyone had the phone ring fairly soon after resetting the loop? If the above poster really did turn his TV back on after an hour to hear the phone ringing, then that seems to imply it is either completely random or is a mix of something done earlier in the game +time spent in the loop, there is no direct trigger to get the phone to ring.

I've seen a playthrough were the phone would not ring, but trigger a deep voice talking backwards... its so random.

There is no piece in the bathroom.

Is bottles near clock, plant, teddy bear, ceiling, beneath the staircase.

i'm not saying bathroom; im saying near the radio across from the front door, according to my gamefaqs link - they're saying six, you're saying i have all 5? is there any way of looking at them/verifying this (how do we even know it's a pic?)

this totally happened to me, in the lightless final loop

Any significance of the picture that says "my voice can you hear it?, this sign can you read it? I'll wait for you if you just come to me?"

I feel like me and my friend got at least 1 baby giggle regularly by trying the following:

Follow her voice until it sounds really close, but don't look at her. Either look away or look at her in the mirror if you're in the bathroom, and eventually she leaves. From there it's either an automatic giggle or we got a giggle by looking at all the interactable objects.

This seemed to work without fail every time we tried resetting the loop.

Walk backwards people. The light where that fridge was swinging is switched on every singke time you do that when having the white torch.
Backwards seemes to be something that should be considered for more than just the lit light.

Does anyone have a collection of the random text that pops up? It seems to pop up at the most random moments. I saw one that mentioned something about holding hands and being still or something. The rest were in German, Japanese, and who knows how many other languages. Screenshots would be great if anyone has them.

The German one I saw last night said something about "into the mist" (fog) something...I can't recall specifically the quote now because it was like 2:00AM when we were playing it.

So I'm guessing those flashing texts may be hints/references to the Silent Hills game (the fog is a big feature in Silent Hill) rather than hints for solving the actual looping hallway puzzle.

....

Bigger question...

Has anybody recorded the backwards voice (sometimes referred to as the "demon voice") from the radio and played it back forward yet?

Because I tried the following:

But that didn't work. Heck she killed me on the first try when showing her a pic.

Edit- what's this talking bag? I have yet to see that

From my experience, her killing you is part of the progression. There after she will only possess you when you approach.

After being killed, and you awake in the room, the bag is in the back corner, if you approach it and stare will R3 it will talk. (sometimes)

I tried this and confirm that it works, at least for me. Don't know what else it does but it does turn on that light.

TL;DR Get close but don't look at her, look at the the objects and you'll get at least one giggle.

This seemed to work without fail every time we tried resetting the loop.

I got this a few times in a row without even looking I think. I was close to her but didn't see her. I heard a giggle during her appearance still which I found unusual. Mostly its about waiting it out and then trigger a sound at an object.

Had four giggles so far and no phone ringing.

Aaarghh

woa... i was convinced you needed two. hahaha

Its so freaking confusing.

I had 2 laughs.. only to have the light near the radio light on... then every time i look at the sentence on Hell next to the coat hanger i get a baby giggle.

Also.. starting the loop and doing nothing will trigger the music and bell ringing... sometimes i get a baby giggle after that.

Just watched someone play it on YouTube. It looks fantastic. I wish Kojima made more games like this outside the MGS franchise.

I'm pretty sure this is something we need if we ever hope to find the real solution to this. Kojima himself said that the idea was for people of different languages to come and put their heads together.

Quote from Kojima: "I personally expected this to take at least a week to be solved, and i was really surprised it was less than half a day," he said. "I wanted people to get together, cooperate," he added, noting that "there are cryptic messages in different languages."

Loved every moment up until the random way to finish it. But the jump scares were awesome. Even for someone like me who doesn't get scared during games or movies. I was getting goosebumps and sweaty palms. I LOVED IT!! Oh and hearing her footsteps when she possess you. SO AWESOME. As im playing Im like why do i hear a second set of footsteps. Anyways it took me 3 hours to finally finish it so i cut my video down to an hour. Enjoy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwqgX9RcQoA&list=UU94aKfvARpZp-ys9Rzstlew

Hmmm... I'm so confused. Im looking around trying to find that missing piece of the photo thats written on.

Objects you have to stare at (R3) for pieces:

Teddy Bear
Bottle next to clock
Marking next to plant that is next to clock
Mold to the upper left wall while facing the outside of the bathroom
Staircase
Pause game is hold (R3)

Not sure if I am missing one.

In my experience, it doesn't always happen, but fairly often, whenever I wonder around for a while, when I go back to the phone, I usually get one baby giggle, whether the ghost is around or not doesn't matter. That's the only one I'm "able" to reproduce.

Yeah I know right :(. Just turned off the demo after an hour of wandering around in the hallway and nothing happening.

Looping just resets the room. No need to reloop unless you wanna start fresh.

It can also change the color of your flashlight, but that doesn't seem to have any significance. Perhaps.

Reloading means you start after the distortion, during which you can find picture pieces.

I found all the pieces way earlier in the game, before the blurry infinite hallway and all that. Seems like you can do that whenever you want to, and it also seems like it doesn't matter anyway.

I'm becoming obsessed with figuring this out in an unhealthy way, lol. This weekend I'm gonna tear apart all the videos of people solving it and really figure out if there's one pattern to solve it. There has to be.

yeah it stopped me looking through the hole

I saw a stream yesterday where they were unable to keep looking through for a while and the conversation got cut off. If the conversation is finished completely, I think you just need to walk through the door again

Cool thanks.

I will try and take some screens of the text that pops up.

Some spoilers ahead. A few trends I've noticed;

Standing in the corner by the bathroom door and looking back the forth (down each hallway) causes the creature to spawn randomly.

It typically spawns in the bathroom in which you can only see the creature through the mirror.
Sometimes it spawns down the hallway by the door you 'start' in, walks slowly at you then disappears. If you walk towards it before it disappears it'll run at you until off screen, then disappears.
Although only once, I was able to see it outside the window by the phone.

Standing in the same place for too long can get the creature to kill you. Stand still until you hear it breathing loudly, walk forward and bit and usually it appears in front of you.

On another note, as this game is supposed to be random, here's how my first playthrough went.

  • Start
  • Do two 'laps' down the hallway
  • Third lap the door downstairs is locked. Trying to open it causes the bathroom door to crack open.
  • Stare into the bathroom via the cracked door, you'll see the creature quickly close the door. Door downstairs opens.
  • Another lap, bathroom door wide open. Enter bathroom, get locked into bathroom for a few minutes.
  • Door opened upon discovery the crying baby in the sink.
  • Continue forward, get killed by creature.
  • 'Restart', do a few laps until the lights started turning red.

At this point I get stuck, couldn't figure out how to go further. Played around with getting the creature to spawn as I outline above.

Saw that on a stream last night. I don't know how relevant it is. I believe it was before the bell ringing loop at the end.

Wow just played it and I can honestly say it was one of the most frightening gaming experiences I've had. The visuals are amazing also and the power of the fox engine is something to behold.

I never saw that on my playthrough, maybe that screwed my progress somehow?

This game is so cryptic.

I'm pretty sure there optiona picture, the hint it gives, it's related to the puzzle.
So we need one visual clue, one audio clue and came back to the girl/phantom.

And I think the audio clues are related to the different ways the phantom cry.

One will be related to the radio, one to the phone.

The visual clue could be related to the mirror.

The "come back" section can be relate to see the phantom another time before triggering the last baby's smile.

The clues are probably in the sentences you receive from finding pictures, pictures are optionals obviously cause clues are optionals, here are a few messages i could grab :

glaubte ich ein telefon zu hören - I thought i heard a phone.
Und durch Nebel schwindenden bewusstseins - And dwindling due to fog awareness.
Sussurrei seu nome - whispered his name.

Not sure if the translation is accurate, it's google translated from German/Portuguese, i understand neither of those.

that's the one.

Under the clock.
In the plant's pot
Under the stairway
At the ceiling, between the radio and the bathroom (and facing in the direction of the phone)
Zooming in the pause menu

I think this is how it goes for everyone in the beginning. It gets really complicated later on though.

the game isn't random, it has a set order of things happening until the very end portion with the random rooms.

Well, its probably not relevant at all, but I was curious because no one else seemed to talk about it. Seems like a lot of people missed him.

yeah I watched a lot of streams (because im still scared of playing it by myself lol) and I never saw that dude in any playthrough.

We have one constant, yay! She kills you when you reload.

And it probably means nothing. :(

If you mean after just firing up the game, it isn't constant either. I did some reloads and she did kill me alot but one time, I had to relieve myself. Didn't pause into menu, just stood there, when I came back I was still alive and played on and off in the same load for hours.

I take it, this hasn't been figured out? Is anyone streaming?
