The idea is that he faked the pics and doesn't actually have ESRB footage, he made it using stuff like that render.

The problem is, it's an anonymous post made long after the actual leak and we have zero reason to believe the "clean" render is real.

Ice Climbers appear in only one game and it was released in 1985. Sakurai brought them back from Nintendo's graveyard with Melee. Since then, they became more popular and their game was re-released on GBA, Wii, 3DS and then Wii U again last year.

Their recent popularity is only based on Smash Bros. At this point, they are more Smash Bros characters than the heroes of their game. Them not being in Smash Bros roster makes no sense to me. The polar bears are even in the Smash Run mode. I don't understand why they'd be cut or proposed as DLC ?

Wolf or Snake, I would understand. They are fan favourites, they have a fan base, why not DLC ? I'm not saying Ice Climbers have no fanbase, but do they have enough fans to make it interesting for Nintendo to ask players to buy them ? I don't know. This does not seem like an obvious choice.

And we have Dark Pit and Dr. Mario. Two slots for what could have been a palette swap and an alt costume. Alt costumes is a thing people have been waiting for for a long time. And Sakurai showed us he heard the fans, Little Mac himself is a great exemple of great and thought-out costumes. Dr. Mario was even cut from Brawl for being too much a Mario clone. And Dark Pit is just a different colored Pit. Even in its own game, he's called a "flawed clone".

I'm not claiming real or fake here. I'm not an Ice Climbers fan either. I'm just pointing out stuff. It's not just the visual aspects of this leak we can discuss. As a matter of fact, I find it very convincing looking and I wouldn't mind Bowser Jr.,the Duck Hunt Dog or Shulk as new characters.

In fact, if Ice Climbers were in and Dark Pit and Dr. Mario were out, I'd jump on the TeamReal train. But I'm TeamLetsSeeWhatHappens, these (imho, poor) roster decisions cast doubt.

Ice Climbers is in Smash 4 as DLC. I'm not saying that leak is real but it's possibly that they are still working on Ice Climbers.

wouldn't the actual render have the duck as well? why would they be separated?

So here's the thing though, the leaker had to position every icon on the screen if the image is fake? So why would he or she choose to position them randomly when it would be just as easy to put them near each other as it pertains to source series?

If it's fake then a massive amount of effort and attention to detail was put into creating it, and that seems like one of those no-brainer things that a fake image would do - maintain the CSS layout of previous games to increase apparent legitimacy.

The fact that the layout is weird is not substantive. It could mean that it's fake, and it could mean they tried something different with the layout this time.

Also, I would think if the image originated on NeoGAF, it would be MUCH higher resolution. What artist creates a quality, original
3D render, compresses it to crap, and then shares it with the world?

LOL I'm blind, the "clean render" is actually worse compressed than the "roster pic".

How the hell can anyone believe that?

I'm excited for Smash Run but also worried that the mode's gimmick isn't going to be as fun in Smash Bros as it was in Air Ride. After all, Smash is a lot of fun normally, so will introducing these mechanics improve the game or take away from the core aspects of it? Hard to know.

I'm really excited to play it as a way to unlock more customization parts, though. That sounds like a ton of fun, and hopefully there's enough Mii cosmetics that it takes a long time to get them all.

Maybe Sakurai should take cell phone photos of the POTDs and compress them all to heck and then anonymously post them to 4chan instead of putting them out how he does. Certainly would generate a lot more conversation :p

Maybe, but that seems weird too. Why would they ? They are, in a way, part of the "core" roster of Smash Bros. They aren't unlockable and they aren't a clone. Why weren't they been worked on for a long time ? Sakurai even talked about implementing the "double character" mechanic on 3DS in an interview a long time ago IIRC.

I'm not saying you're wrong though, just wondering.

Ugh, good proof on #TeamReal now. Screw it, move me to #TeamReal! Fake's been losing some credibility and Real's been gaining, enough for me to change sides.

Just wanna say I'm enjoying this. Crazy pre-release NeoGAF is the NeoGAF I fell in love with.

I'm super excited for the Smash OT and all the bonkers screenshots it'll be full of.
