Yakuza 0 is set in December 1988 Kamurocho, Tokyo and Soutenbori, Osaka, this week’s Famitsu reveals.

The protagonists are 20-year-old Kazuma Kiryu and 24-year-old Majima Goro. Kiryu works as a bill collector under the Tojo Clan’s Dojima Family. Goro, on the other hand, is a cabaret club manager who turned a spot that was on the verge of closing into the most popular club in Soutenbori.

The events of Yakuza 0 are directly connected to the events of the original Yakuza. Thus, many characters from the original will appear in the upcoming prequel.

Yakuza 0 is in development for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. A release date is still to be announced.

Damn killing it already lol

Anyways a friend of mines called the title last week, said he'd seen print of the title during a tour of the Sega offices.

Prequel? What does Chikai no Basho mean?

Litterally "the place of the vow". Been trying to make a more valid translation but at least you get the gist of it.

edit: Promised Place doesn't sound that good for me for some reason...I prefer thinking they're talking about some place where the characters made a vow that they'll try not to break

I only wanted 5(and other stuff to be localized) to gain new fans for the series, whether or not it comes over here isn't gonna stop me from importing like I've done before, so if people wanna be negative that's cool I guess.

I understand its hard to sega to bring yakuza 5 in english, the "5" scares newcomers.
They see it as: "I need to play 4 games to get into it, forget it".

Zero can be a way out, to start from scratch, more people will get to know the serie.

Erm, you could name the game Yakuza: 5 Worlds or Yakuza: subtitle.

Your reasoning for the game not being translated is a reason not even Sega share.

Don't try to make sense of Sega's decisions with Yakuza for the west.

It could also be because Yakuza has stretched out the Kiryu saga for far too long now. He's old, chooses to be out of the underworld life, and the story can only force him back so many times. Haruka's no longer a kid either.

I keep expecting each new Yakuza title to introduce a successor who will take over the franchise from him, but lol they're not doing it. Frankly, if they're not going to hand over his mantle over to a successor, they're better off rebooting the franchise.

Haruka needs to take over. It's the obvious progression, and I can see her being a badass(idol) brawler.
