Ryu Ga Gotoku (Yakuza) Zero Announced

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
PS4 first year or two consists of little software releasing, but what does sells well due to the drought.

Sega makes sure fully finished Yakuza games dont turn up in the west to benefit.

Forget about 5. 0 is a good number for reestablish the series in the west.

Well saying it here, its not for me, its for the people who would want it, there are people who, haven't played any of the series and refuse to play any of it till 5 gets released(yeah as stupid as that sounds), otherwise its "fuck Sega blah, blah blah" and all that jazz.

Litterally "the place of the vow". Been trying to make a more valid translation but at least you get the gist of it.

edit: Promised Place doesn't sound that good for me for some reason...I prefer thinking they're talking about some place where the characters made a vow that they'll try not to break

Could "the vow" mean the Yakuza initiation ceremony, in this context?

No clue.

However, my guess is this :

"Young Kiryu, Yumi and Nishiki has a place in their childhood they cherish/made a promise/blahblahblah and that is the place promised."

Feels more atypical of Japanese drama storytelling.

I keep expecting each new Yakuza title to introduce a successor who will take over the franchise from him, but lol they're not doing it. Frankly, if they're not going to hand over his mantle over to a successor, they're better off rebooting the franchise.

RGG5 spoilers:

I got the feeling that Akiyama and Seijima were poised to take over from Kiryu and Majima respectively going by the end of 5. Kiryu basically ends up dead at the end of 5 and it all feels really final (though I don't believe he's dead). They seemed to hint that Akiyama could potentially take the spot light in the future.
Majima says he's gotten to old for the lifestyle and I got the impression he wanted to pass things over to Seijima who was just badass in RGG5.

I can't wait for this. I've wanted a prequel for a long time so I can see this being pretty damn great if it is set in the past. If its set in late 80's Japan though I'd kill for a shenmue easter egg since that game takes place in the same time period. Secret boss fight against Lan Di? I'd love that.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
So nice of them to depict the "0" in English language in the logo when they are only intending to sell the game to the Japanese

Dear god, you guys sound like a bunch of whining babies over the localization.
Get over it already, no wonder discussions in GD are toxic.

Well
its obvious he doesn't die at the end of 5, when Haruka is holding him, so he could be taking time off to recover like at the end of 3
while they figure out what to do with the story next. If you remember Yakuza 2, there's a flashback in which we see Kiryu
in 1986 during the Jingweon mafia massacre, where he was about 18 and just a Shatei just starting out
so we could have adventures based on that, also before 12 years before Y1, Kiryu was captured by the
Snakeflower clan, Led by Lau Ka Long, where he was tortured and had to be rescued by Shintaro Kazama
so we have even more to work with if they wanna base stuff in the past.

Also Ryo is just one year older than Kiryu.

All great points. I'd be down with either of those time periods you've mentioned. I'd be tempted to go with
The Snake Flower Triads, mainly because I really like Lau's character. His boss battles in 1 and 3 were one of the highlights of each respective game. But either way more Kazama is only a good thing in my opinion

Also, personally speaking I don't actually mind that the game is cross gen. It might just be me but I'm playing through Ishin at the moment (which is ace) and I'm loving the 60FPS frame rate and the super clear and crisp picture. Sure its far from the prettiest or most impressive PS4 title but it still looks pretty nice in my opinion and I assume its the least they will do for the PS4 version of 0.

Would be fun if we could play as Shintaro Kazama for the prologue of Zero.

You know...
killing Kazuma's parents

That would be cool, his style is pretty much a gun user but I know he'd be good at hand to hand
like his brother, Joji
plus he was good friends with Komaki, so he had to have trained with him and have him picking up stuff.

I hope Nagoshi takes this opportunity to give Kazuma a little bit of a slight redesign, personally.

I've never been a fan of his PS3-era design, where his PS2 look got added a layer of grumpiness. He used to look cool and steady, but then he went sour and ugly.

Sadly perfect.

Not surprised at all but a bit disappointed it´s still cross-gen. I'm feeling that the transition to the new gen in Japan is going to be even worse than the last one at this rate.

Don't try to make sense of Sega's decisions with Yakuza for the west.

They gave the west five titles and they didn't sell well? It makes perfect sense. For a heavily Japanese title it was treated very well.

Don't get me wrong, I'm disappointed we're not getting Yakuza 5 because 3 & 4 were good fun. But it ain't hard to see why it never came.

Oh look, another RGG. And it's cross gen too!
Oh boys, there was a time when I was excited about this saga, good times. I loved Yakuza 1, 2, 3 and 4, I bought Kenzan and tried to play it despite the japanese language.
Then, quite evidently, SEGA decided to forget about West.. and so I decided to raise my middle finger to SEGA ^___^
Thanks and farewell, Kazuma.

Another game in the series that in the west proves that producing a great game doesn't automatically equal sales. And that's why we don't get it anymore.

Oh look another game Nagoshinsaid they were too busy to translate because they were working on their next game. Thank you Sega for Miku but fuck you for not bringing Yakuza over.

Wish there was a team doing a translation patch with a quick turnaround time :(
