Pokken Tournament co-developed with Harada and Namco Bandai Announced for arcades

Oh, I bet Nintendo wants it on the Wii U, but Smash is already Namco's only fighter in awhile (Maybe ever?) that wasn't arcade-first.

Soul Calibur V in 2012, Tekken Revolution in 2013, Rise of the Incarantes in 2014/2015.
And of course all the licensed fighters besides Super Smash Bros.

What a fucking dumb decision.

No Wii U? I really want to hear something about this, Nintendo. Why not now? WHY?

You know EVERY fighting game (Tekken, SF, etc...) goes thru the "arcade -> console" cycle.

If you don't think an updated, play tested, new characters version is coming to the Wii-U afterward then I don't know what to tell you

So what are people thinking the movement is going to be like in this? Tekken is traditionally 3D of course (sans T1&2), with very low emphasis on jumping. Judging by this, there's a greater influence on aerial movement - for Lucario at least - and there's obviously projectiles for some heroes. A few of the shots had characters off-axis though, and when Lucario was to Machamp's side he attacked and Machamp readjusted to it.

I'm guessing it's 3D movement but with less emphasis on sidestepping/backdashing than Tekken (and certainly less freedom than SC). Lucario's 'sidestep' we see briefly had a flashy animation so maybe sidesteps can't be cancelled, making them risky bait for homing moves, keeping players honest for risk/reward and to mix up projectiles with. Maybe no side or BT specific combos to lower complexity.

Reminds me of the movement in DBZ/Naruto fighting games.

I mean, it's a fighting game and looks to be more traditional. How are you going to have Sylveon and Absol in that?
A few seconds of footage isn't much to go on in all honesty, so how traditional it really is, is hard to say. As for non-bipeds, Abyss Odyssey seems to manage centaurs, bulls and other unusual body configurations without much difficulty so it's very likely possible... heck Yoda was too small to be grabbed in Soul Calibur but they still got the lil green freak in :3

Fighting type are pretty varied. Sure you have the standard looking ones like Machamp and Hariyama but there are plenty of unique looking ones such as Gallade, Hawlucha, breloom and Cobalion. Besides, I'm sure popular not-fighting types will be included.
I really do hope they go outside of the fighting type pool. Fighting-only would have to have both Lopunny and Meloetta to even make me consider buying it as the rest leave me cold :/

Huh. This is a surprise.

Lucario's fur graphics are pretty underwhelming, they were doing better than that on Conker's BFD HD years ago. I'll chock it up to being early in development.

Harada said he considers more of an action game (according to Kotaku), so you might be right there. Tekken's movement is pretty complex, and they're going for a big audience here. Simple sidesteps and no position based combos would be likely.

If they don't use Amiibo to keep track of data when you're playing at the arcade and, later, to interact with the probable Wii U version, that would be a real wasted opportunity...

So now that we have the fighting-type game announced we can move to the next projects.

-Wave Race for water types
-Brain Training for psychic types
-Farm Simulator for grass types

This is just de beginning!
This is actually an awesome idea! :D

Though I prefer a normal Wave Race if this is the only way to get it, NINTENDO DO IT!

Nice, cause if there's one platform doing better than the WiiU, it's arcades :/

Looks cool though...perhaps a launch game for Nintendo's next console in Fall 2016?

Yoda was considered unbalanced. If you want recent examples of unusual body types in popular fighters there's Amatarasu and Suma Gorath in Marvel VS Capcom 3, and Arakune and Valkenhayn from Blazblue.

They made an HD BFD?

Probably means the Xbox remake.

WOW, at all the comments complaining about this not coming to console, it's like Ishihara saw this coming and tried to avoid it, but I guess he wasn't obvious enough.

People claiming the wiiu version coming, please allow the skepticals to speak. Wiiu lack of games is annoying. If also nintendo miss the chance to reassure wiiu owners about software, as for this and fatal frame..

Again, it's understandable for a fighter to go through arcades first.
Also we know about the project since 2012. The game will come on WiiU most likely late 2015. Nintendo next console is at least 2 years away.

Like announcing a fighting game in the same time window they need to market Smash is a good idea.
Sigh.

Now that i'm thinking about it, keep believing it wont come to WiiU. You'll just be fed crow in a few months. Most of you are familiar with the taste anyway.

Wii U has a lack of third party games, not first party. This is a game of a Nintendo property and it was said to be on arcades first.

I can see them toning down the backdash cancels, sidesteps, and the wakeup game to make it easier for everyone-- but let me have my wavedash!

Typically fighting games go from arcades to consoles dude.

I know, but if mention Wii U's name in the trailer right now would "help", you know. Even if subsequently released.

Not "EVERY" fighting game, Soul Calibur V, Mortal Kombat (2011), Marvel vs Capcom 3, SF x Tekken, Injustice never got and arcade edition, and Super Street Fighter 4 got one AFTER the console release.

How about... a spindash?

They'll sneak in a few complex Pokemon in there, I bet. Maybe the less popular ones. Then again, the Tekken franchise's main characters (Mishimas) are some of the more difficult ones thanks to wavedash and electrics, so who nkows?

AE, USF4, & every Tekken game saw an arcade release first. This is how Harada usually works.

I was watching the trailer.

I was like

"Yeah. Fuck yeah. Why the fuck not, looks fun. Yeah sure I'll play it. My Wii U wants more games, wond-"

COMING TO ARCADES IN FUCKING NOT WHERE YOU LIVE.

"Well. Yeah. Wii U saved right Nintendo?"

This.

Ding ding. This, so much this.

Third party games are the issue, not first party. Plus Namco always does this, go arcade first to work out the kinks, then release it to the console masses.

Looks fun, though I'll wait for when it inevitably releases for the Wii U.
If the roster isn't full of Fighting-types, then I pray for Sceptile, Greninja, or Feraligatr to make it in.

If it's a fighting game initially announced for arcades, it's going to come to consoles. There are very few exceptions. Also, do you really think Nintendo wouldn't release this on Wii U when it's their mega franchise and there aren't that many games slated for it in the future?

Really, guys?
