Pokken Tournament co-developed with Harada and Namco Bandai Announced for arcades

I was watching the trailer.

I was like

"Yeah. Fuck yeah. Why the fuck not, looks fun. Yeah sure I'll play it. My Wii U wants more games, wond-"

COMING TO ARCADES IN FUCKING NOT WHERE YOU LIVE.

"Well. Yeah. Wii U saved right Nintendo?"

I wonder how many people who say this actually know how most fighting game announcements happen in Japan.

Wii U has a lack of third party games, not first party. This is a game of a Nintendo property and it was said to be on arcades first.
I think it will hit the wiiu. But this is the seakond game in a row that nintendo mismanages in terms of communication.
And being a partnership, as ff, make the case even worse. Why not confirme it if it is a lock?
Why are we back to japanese only streaming? Why are we back to japanese and or arcade only release?

Here's a question. GameFreak isn't owned by Nintendo, right? But GF owns the Pokemon IP, right? Since this is a crossover, any chances it could come to other consoles besides the Wii U? Or would Nintendo keep it on theirs exclusively?

Pretty impossible Just because Namco is developing doesn't mean that they own the rights to the game.

Plus Pokemon TCG Online is mostly to help promote the actual card game.

Pretty good, I think. I'd be really surprised if it doesn't hit Wii U by 2016.

I'd say 90%

Tekken games are always released in arcades way before the console version. It's like a beta of sorts.

Wii U 2016

High.

Tsunekazu Ishihara stated it was coming to arcades first, then joked that he probably shouldn't have said that. Plus the fact Tekken games always come out in arcades first.

Plus, with TPCi promoting it, it'll come. Mark my words.

Wait. If it's coming in 2016, and Nintendo hypothetically releases a new home console in 2016, could this be a launch game?

Can we please get something either added to the title or added to the top of every page that explains that this is what happens with pretty much every fighting game in Japan ever? It's purely for the purpose of balancing and playtesting.

As I said in the other thread, only Pokémon X & Y and Pokémon Battle Trozei were revealed in Directs. Art Academy, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphie, Band of Thieves and now this were revealed through other methods.

Other methods can be used for reveals. Also, as has been said, this is not Japan only and it is not arcade only.

Here's a question. GameFreak isn't owned by Nintendo, right? But GF owns the Pokemon IP, right? Since this is a crossover, any chances it could come to other consoles besides the Wii U? Or would Nintendo keep it on theirs exclusively?

Game Freak isn't owned by Nintendo.
Pokémon is owned by Nintendo, Game Freak and Creatures Inc.
Pokémon is trademarked by Nintendo.

It will NEVER be on non-Nintendo formats.

Because this is how Namco operates with their fighters. They don't officially announce the console version until they work out the kinks of the Arcade version. Likewise, they limit their arcade releases to Japan most of the time.

Guys, this isn't hard. Fighting games usually go to arcades first, then their respective consoles.

Only, you know, i was being sarcastic...

FF is another issue. It won't be published by KT in the west that's why it will be late.
We are on Japanese and arcade only announcement cause you know, they announced an arcade game. Console comes later.

Think about the trailer again. It was released internationally, and it was in English. Why would The Pokémon Company do this? Because it will come outside of Japan. Arcades are dead outside of Japan, so the only place it has to go is the Wii U.

Well Evo just got a new huge game.

LOL @ people not understanding how fighting game releases work. It is a great thing it is arcade first as it will essentially serve as the beta version. This will help ensure the final console release is well balanced.

That said, this game looks great. Already getting a Wii U for Smash. This makes Wii U purchase even more worthwhile.

If it's a fighting game initially announced for arcades, it's going to come to consoles. There are very few exceptions. Also, do you really think Nintendo wouldn't release this on Wii U when it's their mega franchise and there aren't that many games slated for it in the future?

Some people are just skeptical of a game ever happening until it's in their hands.

Nintendo aren't going to rush a Wii U announcement. They already have a fighting game franchise coming out at the end of this year that they'll likely be pushing as their competitive title at events like Evo in 2015. As Smash 'winds down' (I use that lightly, as we know with Melee, a good Smash game is forever) we'll see Pokken come into focus.

Here's a question. GameFreak isn't owned by Nintendo, right? But GF owns the Pokemon IP, right? Since this is a crossover, any chances it could come to other consoles besides the Wii U? Or would Nintendo keep it on theirs exclusively?

Nintendo partly owns Pokemon. There is absolutely zero chance this will come to PS4 or XB1.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
People claiming the wiiu version coming, please allow the skepticals to speak. Wiiu lack of games is annoying. If also nintendo miss the chance to reassure wiiu owners about software, as for this and fatal frame..

It'll be for Wii U as well, why are you worried? That's how Namco operates: arcade first, console later.

Harada said he considers more of an action game (according to Kotaku), so you might be right there. Tekken's movement is pretty complex, and they're going for a big audience here. Simple sidesteps and no position based combos would be likely.

I can see them toning down the backdash cancels, sidesteps, and the wakeup game to make it easier for everyone-- but let me have my wavedash!

If that's the case, then Pokken could have a shorter wait time in comparison to more technical fighters (Tekken, SF) for console release?

So now that we have the fighting-type game announced we can move to the next projects.

-Wave Race for water types
-Brain Training for psychic types
-Farm Simulator for grass types

This is just de beginning!

Dude, you don't even know how much I'd be over a water-type Wave Race!
Going off of that theme, maybe we could see a flying-type Pilotwings, or a steel-type Tower Defense? I have no idea what this Idolm@ster-whatever is, but if it's a rhythm-game dress-up like I'm assuming, fairy-type might be a good fit.
Or just give us sound-type and give them the rhythm game thanks.

If this was announced at EVO, I bet Twitch would've melted.

Still don't know why it wasn't; IIRC Harada mentioned 2 announcements before cutting it down to 1, which was Tekken 7, but said the other one (Which is now nigh-indisputably Pokken) was really close to an EVO reveal. I still wonder if Nintendo was afraid of a big stage reveal after that subpar E3 Nintendo Land Fireworks show a few years back, or if it honestly just wasn't ready.

Being skeptical is alright, but overreacting is well...yeah bad.

Nintendo announced a good amount of new Wii U games at E3. If it does not reassure Wii U owners about the future of the Wii U software, then Pokken for Wii U announcement will just fall on the same pit as the other announced Wii U games. Like I said earlier, it'll come on a Nintendo console since they trademarked it. Will it be a Wii U game? A 3DS game? Or a new Nintendo hardware? We don't know, but it'll certainly come anyway.

You know EVERY fighting game (Tekken, SF, etc...) goes thru the "arcade -> console" cycle.

If you don't think an updated, play tested, new characters version is coming to the Wii-U afterward then I don't know what to tell you

Exactly. While its good for arcades financially, its even better for consumers because the console versions that come later are improved thanks to all the data from the feedback they get from the arcade version. Those games as a result are usually the games that end up being played competitively for years after release.

You need to see PokéPark Wii. It has Water-type races and Flying-type races in.

You know, I find it hilarious that the one image GF has denied as "only conceptual" actually segued into Pokken.

I don't know why people keep mentioning 2016, but if is game to be appear on Wii U it will definitely be an 2015 game. There are release gaps between Tekken arcade and console releases, but this is Pokémon, best selling gaming franchise ever. Even if they hold the console release in Japan, they will release for Wii U for west close to arcade release.

Eh, I don't think game technicality is a huge factor in port time. The wait time is to do with console development and marketing timing. I don't think it will come faster than 4 months, but it's unlikely it'll be later than a year. Holiday 2015 is my guess, depending on how fast it hits arcades, and it's been in development for at least a year now, probably two.

Honestly, it does seem like this game is a long way off, and considering how busy Harada is nowadays, I doubt it will leave the arcades next year. This is probably a 2016 Wii U release. Would explain why they didn't announce a Wii U version today. Saying "2016" in 2014 doesn't sound good.

Really, guys?

Exactly. I can understand people being mad that it's not coming to the WiiU first, but it's definitely coming to console eventually. Nintendo can't afford not to port it.

I know! That game became a love-it-or-hate-it in-joke in my Undergrad Video Game Club. But they honestly just felt like mini-games, not enough to stand on their own; I'd love to see them evolve, become more fleshed out, and maybe take elements from Wave Race/Pilotwings to become stand-alone.

Also, am I the only one that explicitly doesn't want Sawk or Throh in this? Never really cared much for 'ol Bert & Ernie, even if their Judo-focus almost guarantees at least one is in.

EDIT: And wait; I forgot to add Heihachi as a Supreme Secret Character Bonus Boss to my Dream Roster. I can honestly imagine his idea of becoming a Pokemon Master being to take them all down in unarmed combat.

Did they confirm anywhere the roster is limited to Fighting Types? I'd actually like that to be the case, as there are a lot of under appreciated fighting Pokemon that could be showcased.

Do you guys want to know why Namco does arcade releases first?

- UMvC3, console-only release, had a metric crap-ton of glitches, even though a few were patched before the UMvC3 contract expired
- Injustice, console-only release, had a lot of glitches that NRS eventually patched
- SFxT, released on consoles first, had a lot of glitches, a few were patched
- TTT2, arcade first, worked out glitches at arcades, came to home consoles with little-to-no glitches & better balancing
- AE & USF4, arcade first, see TTT2

Harada & Namco actually wants the FGC to take Pokkén seriously, so an arcade release first with an eventual console release for the rest of the world (unless Nintendo chooses to fund an international arcade release, which could happen) was a good call on Harada's part. Now if only they can release an arcade stick that's actually wired (& no, the TTT2 arcade stick for the Wii U isn't wired). At least make it plug into the GameCube Adapter.

Still don't know why it wasn't.
Because I had it on good authority earlier in the thread that it wasn't likely much of anything (Damn you Berto!) and I didn't wake up in time to see it. Multiply that by millions that didn't expect much and you get a teaser that didn't reach many eyes, until the fervor was over.

I actually expect a version of this to come to 3DS or Nintendo's next handheld as well. Depending on how long 3DS is being ridden. If their next handheld launches fall 2015 I can see it being a quick and easy launch port.

They haven't said anything about that. I guess we have to wait and see.

Half of the thread is explaining the "arcades lol" stuff, did you read it?
It will also be released for Wii U

That's the whole problem, that we need half a thread to explain common fighting game release plans to posters of one of the most hardcore gaming forums in the world.
Ofc no one is that slow to understand it, but it gives them reasons to shit-post.

I guess I should get you guys ready for the interview where they say "we have no plans to bring this to console yet." Especially if you guys are already freaking out over the current arcade only release.

There's also SCV, which probably fits under the "too rushed to ever hit arcade or have enough console content".

I am not worried. I am upset. It is a nintendo licensed game to namco. Nintendo should announce from the beginning also the wiiu version. Nintendo should be more updated in communicating to their very few wiiu owners.
About FF, well for that I am worried.
It is foolish for N to operate like this for partnership games considering wiiu status..
Add FE x SMT and the picture is hilarious

The next Nintendo portable will come out in 2016 at the earliest. I can see it being announced next year, but that's it.

Again, the usual cycle of events for Namco fighting games under Harada.
