Ultimate NES Remix announced for the Nintendo 3DS

I don't see how his statement is false.

“But, if you step into the shadows a bit more, in order to accomplish what we wanted with NES Remix, and get the effect we wanted out of it and the value that we wanted it to have, we needed some more machine power.”
I don't see what 'more machine power' you'd need to have a bunch of NES games with whatever additions done to these remixes, for it to run on a 3DS.

Wasn't there a quote saying they couldn't do or port this on 3DS?

When they started development they decided to go with Wii U, you know, back when they weren't fully sure what they were going to be doing and how much power it would need.

Aaaand we have exhibit 'A' for why calling their new system the "New 3DS" is a bad idea. People will read this and be confused as to whether it's a game for the New 3DS or a new game for the 3DS.

There's still a difference between "New 3DSゲーム" and "新しい3DSゲーム". I don't think there'll be much consumer confusion there.

Yeah, I was about to edit my post. Haha. Sorry about that. Here's the PR:

So it kinda sounds like the 3DS game isn't a compilation but...it's kinda unclear, too.

Seems like the 3DS is a best of with 16 games out of the original 28. Considering the amount of filler in the first this could be a good thing. One way to get people to buy the Wii U version too.

These games must have done pretty well to get a sequel/port.

Hopefully we see a SNES remix after a while. :)

Yeah. Don't know if I should want it or not, yet! :lol

Exactly!

That would make sense. I hope they offer some clarification, soon. If it's just a best of, I don't really care about getting it just for the online leaderboards. If it's new, I probably do.

But for $30 I'd rather just get NES Remix 1+2 to start with. I've said in the Nintendo download threads how poor the NOA press releases are (they stopped bothering to describe all games, even when all they had to do was copy and past what they wrote 5 years ago) but this almost seems like they are throwing things in the air to make people ignore New 3DS that they can't release this year and so we have press releases that are completely void of handy info (hence why we know nothing about this except 16 games and the US price)

If it was an Ivy the Kiwi Mini situation ($5 was lacking the games hard mode, i.e. half of the levels) I could see that more as good trial and a gateway to the full item.

I don't see any reason to believe this is a straight port of 1+2, though it might share a few challenges. If you played the original NES Remix games on Wii U, you would know that there are in fact a good number of effects that could not be replicated on the 3DS.

Probably the analogy we should be looking for is the one between Pushmo/Pullblox and Pushmo/Pullblox World.

Oh, very good point. I'd be glad if this was a similar situation, as Pushmo World is ostensibly a completely different game with the same mechanics.

It says "new Nintendo 3DS game" so does that mean it's enhanced for the new revision or is it just a regular game?

EDIT: Derp. When I clicked this it only had 2 replies but now there's a whole page almost.

A Nintendo spokesperson tells Joystiq the 16 games represented in Ultimate NES Remix are the same 16 found in the original NES Remix, though it's unclear what form these revived 8-bit classics will take in the newer release.

Meh.

Then what makes this "ultimate"? There has to be more to it, otherwise this release doesn't make any sense...

Isn't there a NES Remix 1+2 coming at that price?

Yeah, and you can buy each title individually on the eShop for $15 a piece. So NES Remix 1 on Wii U is $15, while on 3DS it will be $30. This is assuming they didn't just take the games from NES Remix 1 and double the challenges for the Ultimate NES Remix.

If it's a new game, why are they doing NES again? :/ They have pretty much covered all the good games. I need a SNES one asap.

One bit of confusion, though: The challenge mode is from NES Remix 2, and uses games from NES Remix 2 (And Super Mario Bros, although I guess that's technically there too in the form of Super Luigi Bros!). So either there's snippets of those games to use the same challenge mode, or it's a new challenge mode.

One thing strikes me as something that could justify the cost: Including some of the games in their full-game form. Nes Remix 1 generally had the lower-profile titles in it, so I imagine they're ones that aren't particularly setting the VC sales charts alight. The exception there is SMB, but on the other hand, SMB's been a freebie or unlockable a lot of times now already.

What the hell? If this was NES Remix 1+2 I'd buy on launch day... but only NES Remix 1 games for DOUBLE the price?

There's no way this can be right, especially with how brilliantly the Mario Kart 8 DLC is priced, for example. Nintendo has been on a roll this week! Why would they fuck up now? Sigh.

I agree. Hopefully there are completely different challenges for these games. Heck, even if all 16 full games were included I would kind of question $30 as the MSRP.

Seems like Nintendo posted the game's page

It actually seems to be a remix of both NES Remix games, including some titles from each game.
The games included seem to be Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, Excitebike, Super Mario Bros. 3, Metroid, Zelda 2, Kid Icarus and Kirby's Adventure and if the championship mode is the same as in the Wii U ones, Dr. Mario.
Looking at the boxart, it seems Balloon Fight, Punch-Out!, Donkey Kong Jr. are also included.
Guessing Mario Bros., Wrecking Crew and Super Mario Bros. 2 will also be included but I can't tell due to the boxart being so tiny

Zonic

Gives all the fucks
So it's a Remixception of both games, then Hopefully the games from NES Remix 1 will have more of those crossover challenges that Remix 2 had.

.......& there won't be any sports games this time around.

Mystery solved then! Thank you, astrogamer! So, it's pretty much a greatest hits compilation of the first two games. Weird, but, good to not have to wonder at least.

Yep, it looks like it's a mixture of both NES Remix titles.

I already own both Wii U games digitally and was considering picking up the retail version for collection purposes but I think I'll pass and just buy this instead. Should make for a fun portable game.

That and I think they must be incredibly cheap to make. IndiesZero has 34 employees according to Wikipedia.

...and half the studio was developing FF Theatrhythm: Curtain Call at the same time.

Guess this is for 3DS owners who don't own a Wii U (i.e. a lot of people) to experience NES Remix, then. Good that they're not limiting the titles (series, hopefully?) exposure to the smaller Wii U audience. As a blind hope if this does decently, maybe a handheld-specific Remix may be coming down the pipe! *crosses fingers*

Probably, but we'll know more as it gets closer to release date. Doubt there's going to be enough unique content in this package to warrant a purchase above and beyond NES Remix 1 and 2 on Wii U, personally, but we'll see!

So the Nintendo rep outright lied to Siliconera, or rather didn't know. Good to hear!

Though the specific challenges they mention have already been done, so.. huh.
