Well, damn. Now I want a PS4...
Well played, Sony.
Well played, Sony.
like a very young aizen
I hate Evokers because Persona 3, for whatever reason, wanted to come across as grimdark as possible.
That whole fluke with the intro where that girl (forget her name...the one who uses the bow and is in pink) was in the bathroom with the gun, looking like she was about to commit suicide.
That shit was disgusting. Yeah, I got used to it as I played through the game, but at no point did I see anything narratively needing them to have items that looked like guns to be pointed at their heads, pulling the triggers, to summon their personas.
P3 almost fetishizes the act. It's gross. I chalk up the decision to have the character shoot themselves in the head repeatedly was because Atlus had little awareness of the actual age demographic they wanted to portray.
I understand it looks cool, but considering folks actually shoot themselves in the head, kids and adults both, I strongly disagree with Evokers being used in P3 as being good or even anything close to being praised. To gamify such an act without taking into consideration the gravity behind why people actually shoot themselves in the head, IMO, is a serious lapse of judgement from the creators of P3 who, again, made a game to portray youth of a certain age demographic.
*steps off soapbox*
The entire overarching theme of the game is facing the inevitability of your own death.
Seriously. Evokers are vastly superior.

Looks like the whole evoker thing flew right over your head.
So what? It focused on death, but none of the game ever brought up suicide and discussed it in a relevant, prevalent manner considering your characters are shooting themselves in the head for 80 hours.
Explain it then, instead of being a smartass.
It disgusts me to my core that folks would like such a thing.
You're a genius.Healing is done by uploading the selfie to social media.

Guess Who just put it nicely. I've always loved the evokers for that kind of symbolism that it evokes. Also the willingness to go into battle, even if it kills you.
It's not about suicide, per se, but it's about looking death in the face and overcoming it. It's about not being afraid to pull the trigger. The final boss is literally the Greek goddess of death. You die at the end. The whole crux of the Social Link and calendar system as implemented in Persona 3 is that you only have so much time to live and you have to make the most of it by building the closest friendships and making as many memories as you can before it's over.
I kinda feel like the protag's subdued understated design is very much intentional due to the game's supposed themes of restraint and emancipation. I imagine that breaking free from the shackles of modern society and finding one's identity will play a major role in the story.
but goddamn telling someone its okay to acknowledge death while having a gun (or in this case, a gun-like object) to their head is fucking awful.
For a game that's about living your life while not being held back by the fear of death, the fact the characters point a gun to their head and pull the triggers contradicts the crux of the story. I understand how it makes sense ultimately, where one shouldn't be afraid of dying, but I fail to see how by having Evokers look like guns enforces this point.
Yes, the characters pull the triggers to show they aren't afraid of death. To me, this is tasteless since people do this already and they sure aren't summoning Personas.
Yes, this is a work of fiction. Yes, P3 is a fun game. Yes, it handled its themes well for the most part, but goddamn telling someone its okay to acknowledge death while having a gun (or in this case, a gun-like object) to their head is fucking awful.
This should take no more than 6 months to arrive in NA after Japan release, seeing how popular P4G was in the West, the localization will be a lot faster this time.
Europe? lol
Region free thoWhy have you gotta do that to me, bro?
Thanks
Yeah...that was kind of the point as well.
It seems to me you understand it all well enough, but have just been thinking a bit too hard about it in completely the wrong way.
Yeah, Atlus should've been more sensitive when it came to this subject matter. Maybe they'll replace the evokers with wrist-slitting in Persona 3 The Platinum?
It's all a metaphor being taken too literally and personally.
That is not funny. Dunno if you've ever attempted to commit suicide and this is you coping through humor, but that shit is not funny in the slightest.
simultaneous EU/US release
World wide simultaneous release would be perfect but I'm not counting on that happening.
Zestiria is getting a world wide release on the same date, why not Persona?
I still believe.
Best news from the conference. Really is. Now there's nothing stopping me from buying a PS4. I suppose I'll still wait till Bloodborne comes out.
The logo is beyond horrible though lol, i hope it will change.
I'm sorry that someone close to you tried to commit suicide or whatever and it took its obvious toll on you, but the symbolism is clearly there and you're just taking this way too personal.
The evokers are justified and a lot of people seem to enjoy them.
I hope there will be dual audo option.
