2K and Gearbox Software announced today that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will offer four add-on content packs following the release of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Windows PC. The four add-on content packs will encompass new characters, challenges, missions, and experiences. As Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel nears completion and the team shifts its focus to add-on content, additional details will be announced as development progresses. Each add-on content pack will retail individually for $9.99 on all available platforms.

Additionally, the Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Season Pass bundles the four add-on content packs at a discounted rate. Priced at $29.99, theBorderlands: The Pre-Sequel Season Pass includes access to all four of the add-on content packs – a $39.96 value – and will be available for purchase when Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel releases on October 14, 2014 in North America and October 17, 2014 internationally. Once purchased, the Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Season Pass enables the download of all included add-on content packs as they become available on the PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE and PC.

Gamers who pre-order Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel from participating retailers will gain access to the Shock Drop Slaughter Pit bonus content. Taking place in an old Dahl facility on Pandora's moon, players will meet TR4-NU, who once was one of Dahl's military recruiters until he went crazy. TR4-NU is now hosting the Shock Drop Slaughter Pit and giving awesome loot to those who succeed against the moon's toughest enemies. The Shock Drop Slaughter Pit will not be included in the Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Season Pass, but it will be available for purchase at a later date, for those who do not pre-order Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. And Gearbox's PAX presentation summary from yesterday:

Twitch Link to presentation

Some notes (most are in the summary screen:

-TPS will be told in flashback form as Athena recounts the events! :D (<3 Athena) For TVHM, Tiny Tina will be the narrator. Um, yea lol. Matt A of Gearbox said something along the lines of: Tina missed the first time Athena told the story so she tells Athena to retell the Tale but make it sound harder. If it's anything like Assault on Dragon's Keep I'll be happy and entertained.

-In the presentation, Randy also mentioned how he always wanted a playable Handsome Jack and the crowd approved so we may possibly get a playable H. Jack down the road in the form of his body double.

-Tales of the Borderlands will be a part of the Borderlands canon, takes place after BL2, and will connect some story lines between the games.

-The card magic trick was pretty good. Corny at times but good.

Can't help but laugh every time I see stuff about this game. Last gen-only, BL2 framework, and now a $30 season pass? Fuck off with this, who actually thinks this is a good idea?

/rant, I want next gen Borderlands (
Other than Destiny
)

I got a feeling this game is going to bomb massively

I think Borderlands 2 left a sour taste in a lot of fans mouths, I also think that if you wanted to buy a shooting loot game, that you'd get destiny as opposed to this.

Hopefully im wrong and this game is really good

The end game is really what turned me off of Borderlands 2 more than anything....I just don't think I'm ready for more of the same yet.

I thought BL2 was universally praised?

It's... so strange.

It may make sense at first blush, but when you look at how the sales of videogames and the platform breakdown has evolved over the past 6 months...

- "Current gen" has handily overtaken last gen in sales of software, especially and crucially when it comes to new releases.
- With the announcement of a season pass and a full price tag, this is not a budget or a sideline Borderlands project.
- With the existence of a PC version, the marginal cost of porting over a current gen version is even further reduced.

Can't help but feel like Gearbox is making a big, big mistake.

When it first came out, yeah it was praised, but now looking back on it, it's a pretty bland game that didn't fix any of the issues the first game had. The game has a good premise, but it's executed pretty poorly.

Really disappointed that this isn't on PS4 or Xbox One, I loved BL2, really enjoyed playing coop. Hopefully Destiny will fill the void.

BL2 was fine, there was nothing really wrong with it (aside from having those stupid vault keys) but it felt like they were treading old ground, it was very same-y.

Why announce it when you can do it next year and make everyone buy it all over again?

But will they?

At a time when the game will be old news, Destiny will have been out for a while and people will be prepping for a next one, and we're past the early days of current gen and well into the likes of Bloodborne, Sunset Overdrive, all kinds of Halo, Quantum Break, and more?

Is a seemingly sloppy Borderlands side-game (that's somehow still full-priced with a season pass) something that will be demanded as much next year as it would have been this one?

And is "everyone" really buying it again? Tomb Raider DE did ok numbers, and certainly TLoU Remastered is doing very well -- but how does that translate into next year? More importantly, how does that compare to the sales they would have by putting in the resources to have the game out *now* instead of next year?

Agreed; last gen software sales are already through the floor, and this game has everything going against it. I guess it will have about five minutes of attention before its forgotten entirely.

It was definitely way more well received than BL1. One of my favorite shooters of last gen.

That said, I agree with his guess that its going to bomb hard. I would consider buying it if it was next-gen, but, its a rental for now.

day one, and will definitely pick up the season pass IF it is story dlc. Supposedly someone from gearbox said it is 4 story dlc's, but the way the official announcement was worded makes it seem like it wont all be story dlcs...idk

If it really is all inclusive, I'll probably break-down and buy the season pass :l damn you, gearbox. At least my 360 has another year left in it's life. lol

And at this point, I'm for a current gen release after the initial push on last gen consoles. I'll be shocked if they don't.

I thought BL2 was universally praised?

I dunno about all that lol but it's a great game though. Randy mentioned that BL2 was the best selling or one of the best selling 2K games ever.

Some veteran BL players i've watched on youtube (gothalion, mak, bahroo, etc) have voiced their opinion on BL2 and they have made some great points about how certain things could be change for the better, or at least back to how they were in BL1. lol I play BL for the random fun aspect but even I have noticed some of those issues, especially in UVHM.

Why announce it when you can do it next year and make everyone buy it all over again?

Exactly. lol

Really enjoyed playing BL2 a few years back until the wave of modders and hackers came through. That and they started making raid bosses to counter some of the cheesing going on, which just made it impossible for people playing normally to beat them.

This moon base idea, which I thought was hinted at as a dlc for bl2 back in the day, seems like bl2 dlc that got too big and are trying to cash in now on brand name alone.

It was never hinted at as DLC for BL2. It was just something fans wanted. Highly doubt that this was originally BL2 DLC since it isn't be done by Gearbox and it's not a continuation of the BL2 story at all and has 4 completely different character classes, weapon types like cryo, and various additions to the combat mechanics like jet packing, double jumping, and dive bombing. This isn't a Saints Row IV situation where it actually was originally DLC set in the same exact setting as the previous game and was then turned into a more lucrative sequel.

I think the target audience are pc gamers for the Pre-Sequel. I think next gen consoles will have to wait till Borderlands3.

Couldn't have said it better myself and.... I loved SRIV.

For those still worried about the O2 depletion.

I got my season pass for BL2 at 25% off (@ gmg iirc) and hope to do the same this time.
The TVHM change sounds awesome c:
And the magic trick was ~magic~

I don't think it'll take that long. A GOTY version after all first 4 campaign DLCs are out seems like a safe bet.

This is what I'm most interested in. I always felt that the BL series could really benefit from having more ways to navigate battlefields and evade gunfire. Moves like double-jumping and jet-pack boosting will make fights a lot easier.

That, and I can never say no to the prospect of Handsome Jack and Athena (<3) being main characters.
Maybe now we'll finally learn what became of Jack's wife.

I will agree that past gen only is sort of a shot in the foot, given where the PS4 and XB1 install base is.

I don't think it's going to be the complete bomb people think it will be. I'd say 2-3 mil across all fronts is a pretty good estimate. I can't imagine this needs to sell that much to be successful.

First game had 1 good DLC pack out of 4.

Second game had 1 good DLC pack out of 4.

I'm going to wait for the season pass to be $5 on Steam for a third time.

I was pretty cynical towards this game at first, but it's actually warmed to me. I think it'll be totally solid, if not a big evolution for the franchise. Definitely won't be getting any dlc though

Pitchford also revealed that playing Telltale's Tales from the Borderlands will unlock content in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.

I thought this was funny. Buy another game to unlock content.

I'm glad they kept the season pass price low again. Hopefully we get as much content as BR2 which I thought was more than enough considering the price we paid.

Yup = we all believe they mis-read the market incredibly wrong and they will suffer.

I don't know why this game is getting a lot of hate, I'm looking forward to it. Not sure about the season pass though, I only really enjoyed the Dragon Keep DLC. I'll probably wait for a sale.

hah, well it's more of an extra for those who buy both games. If you had save files for BL1 when playing BL2 you were given an extra head/skin. It will probably be something like that at the least.

Co-worker went to pax East last year, gave me a voucher to get the game for free... Still a shame it's on last gen

wait..the Pre-Sequel for free?? just wow.

Already got this paid for on Steam. Can't wait for the inevitable pre-load.

Not having a next-gen version does suck for those without decent PCs, though.

Ridiculous. I bet it'll be ported to next gen within 6 months, too.

I really am not liking this trend of 30 bucks unless it is THAT, THAT packed with significant major stuff that hasn't been offered before.
