Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

I’m going to go out on a limb here by presenting our next nomination:

Sukapon

Notable Appearences
Joy Mecha Fight (1993)

Bio
Sukapon is the main robot from the fighting game Joy Mech Fight. He is designed to become a spectacular fighting robot. Like all robots in the game, his limbs are seemingly separate from his torso, but this allows him to become more flexible and agile while fighting. Sukapon was made by the two doctors Dr. Little Emon and Dr. Ivan Walnuts. When Dr. Walnuts declared his intent to rule the world, Dr. Emon used Sukapon to defeat Dr. Walnuts's robots, and stop the evil doctor.

After an epic battle on the moon and the defeat of Dr. Walnuts, Sukapon was rebuilt to become even more powerful. Sukapon is the most basic robot playable in Joy Mech Fight, and therefore has the most basic attacks. While not weak, he is not powerful in any regards, and is mostly played by newcomers and players looking for a challenge.

What NeoGAF Says
"Because of the importance to Nintendo history of fighters" - Platy

What do you guys think? Should Smash Bros. honor its roots with the lead of one of Nintendo’s earliest fighters? Or is this bot better left in the junk pile? Let us know below!

Note: Unlike veterans, the newcomers being posted are not being revealed in order of most votes due to the amount of different choices; I'm just sharing the ones I find most interesting. However, for the last five newcomers, I will present those in order as the newcomers who got the most votes.

Has Nintendo done more than one game-specific Direct for the same game before? Smash kind of already had one, and though I'd love to see another, I'm not sure what else they could do other than reveal all the secret characters. I guess expand on Wii U features and modes, maybe some Amiibo stuff, but that feels like stuff they could work into a more general Direct.

But have they done two for the same game before?
IIRC, there were two for Pokemon X/Y

She's still possible as a newcomer this time around, if the leak didn't show off all characters or if there's DLC coming.
The only problem with Tetra is that most of the moves I can think of for her (like the Deku Leaf) should've gone to Toon Link.

I'm just thinking of how funny it would be to have a deku leaf attack where a none-damaging gust of wind blows enemies away and using it to blow people away from the edge while they're recovering.

Toon Link using all the same stuff as Link is definitely a lost opportunity, even if Items from his own universe were just incorporated into his normals or something, but at least on the surface he's still consistently "Link".

Good lord am I jelly.

In a perfect world I would have a perfect IV Adamant Shiny Bulletproof Chesnaught (so many adjectives haha)

It would be so nice if destiny knot passed down 6 ivs since it sucks getting one bad iv while shiny breeding. No big deal tho since it's still waaay better than past gens lol.

On topic. Wonder what sakurai will give us as a friday pic since we just got smash run.

Pokemon XY had 2 I think!

Niiiice @ Sukapon. Would make for an interesting fighter. Maybe too obscure though.

I wish that game had made it over here.

Maturity, bitches.
I've seen Sukapon mentions a lot over the years and yet I've never seen a single opinion on the actual game, Joy Mech Fight.

Captain Syrup! Sukapon! Two characters I'd love to see, although I never played Joy Mech Fight. It's on the 3DS VC in Japan, so maybe I should fix that soon since I have a JP 3DS.

Only 6 more newcomer spots left, the choices have definitely been interesting thus far. Pretty excited to see who the top 5 will be :0

If I were to receive a JP 3DS for free today...
I would only use it for Flipnote. Yes, over Smash bros.

Yeah, that reminds me, because I had to skip a newcomer the day all the leaks happened, I'll be posting an additional newcomer this Sunday as well.

That game has probably been canned outside of Japan after they disable the Flipnote friend sharing and Swapnote.
That would be a huge shame, but if so, why haven't they officially canceled it? That would just be a damn inconsiderate thing to do.

I remember when Snake was announced.
Hopefully they don't take him away from you in Smash5.

Yeah... hopefully not. :( I feel like Mega Man is as likely to return in future titles as Sonic was in this one, though. He's a classic gaming icon with a rich Nintendo history. Snake is more of a modern gaming icon (he didn't get really popular until the first Metal Gear Solid) and most of his history has nothing to do with Nintendo. Plus, Snake got into Brawl as a personal favor from Sakurai to Kojima, while Mega Man has been the most fan-requested character after Sonic since the Brawl days.

Oh cool, I thought you'd abandoned the thread until the JP release. I'm glad I dragged you out of the shadows :p actually this discussion about how he has a high learning curve or feels rather Clunky and "non-Smash-like" has made me curious to try him out as soon as I get my hands on the game. As a newcomer I doubt he'll suck, so I'm guessing it's a matter of getting used to his playstyle for the fans that want to main him.

And I don't think any of us were actually expecting Bayonetta... Not after the ESRB leak at least.

Nah, I said I might have to abandon the thread, but people have been really cool about not bugging me about the PAX event or trying to get me to leak something from it, so I've been able to stick around. No lurking in the shadows for me (so far)!

But yeah, I can tell you right now that Mega Man does not suck, but he takes a far greater deal of effort to get good and dangerous with than, say, Little Mac or Zero Suit Samus. He feels just like he should based on his source games, which means as a Smash character he feels really different; there's literally no one else who plays like him. He's almost entirely projectile-based, which makes spacing more important with him than maybe any other character. Whipping out a quick forward smash to clear space immediately is not an option with him, since his forward smash is only good when it's charged, which can only be done from far away without being punished.

Due to his really high learning curve, I don't think we're going to be seeing many Mega Man mains and I predict that a lot of people are going to write him off as low-tier/shitty and leave it at that. I'm cool with that, though; it'll just mean that only real Mega Man fans will put in the time and effort required to master him, which makes it all the more special!

Rosalina is another newcomer with a fairly high learning curve, but I think even she's easier to get a handle on initially than Mega Man... maybe.

Times Ash has played Smash: 3

Times I have played Smash: 0

:'(

Sorry. :( You're almost there, though! Stay strong!

Playing some NES Mega Man 2. Which of the original 6 games are the best?

The popular opinion: 2 = 3 > everything else (few people beyond hardcore Mega Man fans care beyond those two, sadly, and people often act like those are the only two great ones, which isn't true)

My opinion: 5 > 3 > 6 > 2 > 1 > 4 (MM 5 is not a popular choice as the favorite, but I think it's fantastic. It's a little easy and the special weapons are kinda meh, but the core gameplay, visuals, and music are like the best of anything ever seen on the NES, and it's also one of the longest, meatiest games in the series)

I actually think Little Mac will be a high learning curve character. I was expecting him to be one of the easiest to learn, but I actually wasn't doing very well with him at all in the demo. Learning how to deal with enemies without getting into the air much is gonna be something Little Mac players will have to learn to do.

But yeah, I expect Mega Man to have a pretty big learning curve. I expect a lot of the newcomers to, honestly. Especially Shulk and Robin.

Thanks for your input. I hope to get around to all of them eventually.

I was thinking of Deku Leaf as an Up-Special, which lets Tetra glide down slowly. But Deku Leaf pushing people away could work too, F.L.U.D.D. is part of Mario's moveset, so who knows?

Honestly, I think it's quite possible that Mega Man will be cut next time around. Sonic and Pac Man will probably stay, due to SEGA and Namco Bandai's good relations with Nintendo, but Capcom doesn't really have that.

Well after that whole fiasco, the release date was changed to "TBD" on the official site and it's been like that for over a year now so I don't really see what the hold up is unless they're not releasing it at all. Maybe they just want everyone to forget about it. Not this guy though lol.

I remember when Snake was announced.
Hopefully they don't take him away from you in Smash5.

Don't you mean Smash 6?
that's being released next year

I find it funny how everyone went crazy about Megaman being in the game when he was announced, and last page no one answered "Megaman" to the question of what character they wanted to play as first. Most answered Greninja, Robin, Shulk... even Bowser Jr. even though he's probably unlockable.

So, who here sees Megaman as a potential main? Where are all the Megaman fans? :p
I was really hype for Mega Man!

Then I played as him at Smash Fest, and he didn't click with me at all. I'm a bit more ambivalent now.

Still awesome he's in, though.

Right here. I intend to play the shit out of Mega Man. For me, the idea of having a main is a bit silly. How could you ever limit yourself to one or two characters in such a huge roster? Mega Man will be the closest thing to that for me, I think.

All the other newcomers look awesome too though. Actually, the one I've next most excited to play with are the Miis, and I never would have expected that before they were shown off. I love all the customization.

So... am I the only one around here who actually likes Dr. Mario as a separate character? Among all the low effort clone possibilities, Dr. Mario comes from an incredibly popular/high-selling game and serves as Smash Bros.' sole puzzle genre representative. Superficially he's just Mario in a lab coat, but he embodies so much more than that. I just wish the viruses were incorporated into his moveset somehow, but I know that's unlikely considering he's a clone.

Yoshi represents the Tetris Attack series.
