wow that is really beautiful box art, very different do this in the west please

how much bigger is the New 3DS screen compared to the original version and the original XL?

i might just get a new 3DS with those cool faceplates to replace my regular 3DS instead of going bigger if the screen size has a decent boost

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
And to think the game seems legitimately sold out on Amazon too. Seeing the Amazon page, I don't see warnings about the product being temporarely OOS due to many negative reviews / notifications from users.

Heck, I've even watched YT videos of someone playing it without many problems (except for some frame drops here and there), he must've been one of the few lucky guys who can play it :lol

That or, you know, amazon reviews are hyperbolic as always? :p

That's a concrete possibility as well, but better give the benefit of the doubt for now. DQIX never forget, though :p

From the videos I've watched, I can comprehend why people say font is too small. Because it is.

If I had to guess the first line is when the consoles were released. That is the farthest I've got.

I found this on some russian website, and it said sales so maybe this is showing us sales for all 3? I may be wrong but hey, I took chinese back in school I can't read this lol.

Glad to see D3 giving the Simple Series another shot at retail. They've never been able to recreate the insane success it had on PS2, but I really doubt a mahjong game's going to help kick things off again.

Yep, they released the Wii U's 'Family Party: 30 Great Games' as a retail Simple Series game in Japan. I guess it did shockingly bad, because it was the only one.

332 - Simple Series for Wii U Vol.1: The Family Party - 20,385 / 31,658

It did better than most titles on Wii U though. It did about the same as Mario & Sonic.

New 3DS screen is x1.2 the original one. New 3DS XL screen is the same as the previous version:

Someone translate this?

For what I can see (going by logic XD )

First row: Release date in US
Second row: sales up to latest date (PS4 --> August 10th; One --> April 17th; Wii U --> June 30th), , no difference between sold in and sold through.
Third row: Lowest launch price
Fourth row: A mystery :lol

OHHHHH that makes sense. Because I was thinking for a minute that Sony sold 1 million and the Xbox sold 500,000 in japan.

Well that's completely wrong lol. Did sony even get to 1 million yet?

Cygames is making a PS4 title: http://app.famitsu.com/20140903_434149/

Cygames is primarily known for their once gigantic hit Rage of Bahamut on iOS/Android that fell by the wayside when non-native card battling titles fell by the wayside.

I'm guessing it's probably still a social f2p title, just on PS4 instead.

Could be Rage of Bahamut related though. They're airing a Rage of Bahamut anime series starting in October, and that has been in the works for a really long time with some pretty notable staff on board too. It's a pretty weird project.

Yeah I imagine the IP actually has some brand cachet with people. Even in the West it was the #1 top grossing iOS game for about 6 months circa 2012 so there's some brand awareness there.

The art was really lovely too. It's just that the game was like boring and non-interactive as all fuck, and ran through an incredibly slow web browser interface to boot.

I'm curious about Smash advertising in Japan. I have the impression Nintendo lets the brand do all the work, like Brawl, and isn't aggresive with the promotion of the game.

So I see the Medarot series mentioned in these threads a lot and don't know anything about them except Takao is a huge fan... what kind of games are they?

They're a bunch of RPGs molded after Pokemon. In them you build a team of three customizable robots to bring into battle. The battles take place with a rather unique relay system that has the robots run to the centre of the field to launch an attack. This video can be hard to follow, but it's a good demo of the system in action.

they thought it was a good idea to give the series a ten year hiatus?

They also thought it would be a good idea to release two numbered entries in the same year.

It wasn't a 10 year hiatus. There's a bunch of spinoffs I took out. The series did stop for six years after the game's aimed at the west came out, and a last ditch reboot attempt flopped.

It´s interesting that next week we actually have a somewhat comparable game to MH PSV with DQX 3DS. Both games are the x-th port of an online-subscribtion game based on very popular million selling IPs.

Monster Hunter can be called a handheld franchise, their big successes were on handhelds anyway.

Already looking for excuses? Why do you even feel the need to? It will be a just comparison between games with a similar business modell. Anyway PSO 2 is a Free2Play game on PSV, without a monthly subscription fee but with ingame transactions.

Frontier goes against what made the MH games successful on handhelds. It's an always-online MMO that features no local multiplayer, even on Vita. Monster Hunter became a thing because of its local multiplayer.

The games themselves have a similar business model, but the distribution methods are different enough to make a comparison really difficult. According to this thread, the only way to play Dragon Quest X on 3DS is if you buy the retail release. You can download Monster Hunter Frontier G's client for free on PSN for Vita and PS3. Everyone that's playing DQX on 3DS will have their copy show up on Media Create/Famitsu/Dengeki's lists. That's not the case for MHFG.

It's a strange comparison too. DQX 3DS should sell more. It's the more popular game on the more popular platform.

[WiiU]零 ~濡鴉ノ巫女~ - 17pt

Fatal Frame for Wii U appearing in the Comgnet stores pre-orders top 20 before Bayonetta 2. Should have announced a Jibanyan costume for her.

Also, this whole DQX for the 3DS situation (small stock and not available on eShop), it seems to me Square Enix is effectively running a paid beta testing. =P

Yas at Fatal Frame charting!

And I don't think SE is beta testing, they simply don't want lots of people hammering the servers.

Promotion panels are into stations as usual, on Yamanote sometimes I see the CM but they are still pushing MK8 (and sometimes Zelda Musou)

Don't know about CM on TV cause i don't own it

Less than 10k sold then. But I for one, am happy that Bayo2 is alive.

I imagine no DQX on the eShop is because they have no means to give out Activation-Codes/Serials out that way.

Lol y 10K? Seems kind of an arbitrary #. DKC: TF had 24 preorders final day, and Just Dance Wii U had 16.

Good for Fatal Frame though. I guess I should wait for Mpl to dig up how that compares to previous Fatal Frame games.

I'm not sure what the surprise is about Bayonetta. Small installed base, poor audience fit, not that big a brand to begin with. It has all the makings of sales failure.

Also, does anyone of our Japanese members know how the Fatal Frame movie/manga is being advertised or received so far? The movie releases a day before the game right?

Also Amazon JP:
Bayonetta 2 - #37
Mario Kart 8 - #40 (keep in mind the PS4 is #25)
Zelda Musou - #46
Fatal Frame - #59

comgnet for Hyrule Warriors before:
Sold:
Hyrule Warriors- 105+22= 127 total
Preorders:
8/14 - Hyrule Warriors- 33+20= 53 total
8/4 - Hyrule Warriors- 18+15= 33 total
7/24 - Hyrule Warriors premium pack debuts with 12 points. (21 days before release)

So if I'm not mistaken, Fatal Frame has actually debuted better than Hyrule to start its preorders (17 preorders 23 days before release).

DQX 3DS is getting destroyed on Amazon Japan reviews. Average now is 1.5 stars (67 reviews). Major complaints include ridiculous input lag, music/sound effects cutting out randomly, and poor text visibility.

Many of the harshest complaints are from people who played the Wii or Wii U versions. I do not see this one having any legs.

Honestly I saw this coming. Whoever thought that the 3DS would actually run a cloud MMO well? I won't be surprised if one of the major reasons why the new 3DS exists is because of Dragon quest X.

Prepare for DQ11 exclusive to new 3DS.

I could have predicted that the game would run poorly, but are these legit reviews or are these like DQ IX "I don't like that new fairy girl" reviews?

Yikes! Would this game benefit from the New 3DS more power?

New 3DS might be able to run a port of DQX which should alleviate some of those issues. Unless it has a better Wifi chip, I'm not sure how the current implementation (which is a streaming solution like PSNow) of the game would improve.

RE DQX performance:

I'd say it's all pretty on the money. I've run into a variety of issues including input lag (dependent on my internet speeds at the moment), text being hard to read in some menus, sound going crazy etc.

When it works it's certainly a novelty, but ultimately it's nothing more than that.

The third is for launch price in Japan and the fourth is for feature =).

I wonder why Square-Enix would even risk releasing the game in that state. It's not like there was a rush to release DQX on 3DS. Does the smartphone version run well? Or is it kind of like this? Is it possible that for some reason their servers are overloaded?
