The Sims 4 |OT| Behold its true form and despair!

I have decided to make my children as the following. The eldest will be a super nerd; the second one will be a jock; the last one will be an evil dick. The first two are boys, and my waifu is pregnant with the third one now. Hoping for a girl!

So, do you guys think the game is still worth getting even with all the stuff they took out?
I have to say I'm a bit curious since I'm a fan of the franchise...
I think I'd rather play Sims 3, heck Sims 1 seems like an upgrade.

Not sure what's new, despite having read the OT.

If you like The Sims, this game is legitimately good. I was worried myself -- the missing features list is daunting -- but what's actually in the game is super fun. The people who have the biggest problem with the game right now seem to be people who mainly focused on the design aspect of the game (like Create-A-Style) rather than the day-to-day social aspect. The actual additions to Live Mode (like multitasking) are really, really good, and I don't think I'd be able to go back to previous games because of it.

At the moment, I'm more worried about all the bugs the game has.
There are def. bugs, but all that I've seen are minor annoyances rather than gamebreaking.

Well, how do you access the other neighborhoods. As far as I can tell, you're stuck with the one neighborhood per world.

Not sure I follow. There are two worlds with multiple neighborhoods per world. If you want to go to a different neighborhood, you either travel there using your phone, move there using a computer (i.e., buy a new house), or you create another household and move them in and start playing them. Or start playing a pre-existing household.

I think kid wise I'm going for two. My Girl will be the Hipster chick who doesnt take after her fathers and the son will be super smart.

I think the fun wore off for me with this game. The lack of features are kind of killing me to continue. I find myself having more fun creating sims instead of actually playing the game.

I think I'll stick with 3 and 2 until some expansion packs come to the game.

I encountered a terrible bug today

Whenever I tried to save my game, it kept showing me this message:

imagekwuzj.jpg

(It says "there was an issue while saving" followed by an error code)

So I had to quit the game without saving, thankfully I had saved like 10 minutes before that so I didn't lose too much progress but woah, that game just keeps on giving.

It also crashed a couple of times, not to mention all the graphical bugs, like characters walking through each other (like ghosts) or meals disappearing and then reappearing all of a sudden (happened once, after cooking a baked Alaska)

Only positive.
You get one when maxing an aspiration (already have 3/4 maxed) + those you can buy.

To be honest, that's disappointing.

It would be great if you could get additional negative traits for constantly acting upon them, e.g. if your house is constantly filthy, you make a lot of enemies, you spend too much time procrastinating etc.

I actually gave in and bought it today, just remembered that I had $20 on my paypal from some donations so I shelled out $15 and that is what I was willing to pay for this game.

I have loved the earlier ones so I hope I will do it with this one as well.

I haven't played The Sims in years but this release has me thinking about the series a fair bit.

It only occurred to me that it's super weird that the sims speak in simlish but have normal names.

Refresh rates too high for my monitor. How can I fix it? Won't display anything unless I tab out

Hit Alt+Enter to switch to Windowed mode. Should match your desktop refresh rate then.

Then go into Options in the "..." button on the top fight of the screen and set the refresh rate manually.

Worked, thanks a ton!

Can we import music?

Sometimes when you're on a date, the requirements are that both sims have to be flirty or playful or something like that. How exactly are you supposed to achieve that given that you don't even control one of them? I've tried spamming all the romantic/friendly/funny options but that doesn't really seem to do it.

not sure if I should bite yet, or wait for patches to come out since I have heard lots of bad things about crashing.

I really enjoyed the sims 3, but the install process and DLC killed it for me, even though it was a great game.

Usually spamming the appropriate dialogue works for me.

Wait for the patches peeps.

Played the game for an hour one day, and was highly disappointed, but still enjoyed the core Sims gameplay.

Fast forward to today, and this is the third day in a row that I've tried to play this game without crashing spontaneously. I tried playing and would end up crashing and losing all of my progress. I just started playing now, and it crashes when loading into that household. It's only working now that I had to reset all my progress.

Oh well.

Also, the fact that there is some parts of the UI that have awkward space really screams to me that a lot more will be added in expansions really soon.

Personally, just hoping we can get a patch to fix the horrible gameplay options that are lacking.

Had my first bug today. I saved up around 160k and move my sim onto an empty lot to start flexing my interior decorator skills. Built all the wall, set down the two premade rooms I wanted and set about furnishing and decorating the rest. Two hours later I'm running low on funds and am only really half way done. I have to go to work so I think I'll call it a day but recall one more thing I wanted to buy quick for a room. I open the build menu, then accidently click the gallery at which point the game crashes without saving.

I think I'm going to go stare at the sky with a single tear running down my cheek now...

Started a second sim and still on the first lot, kept expanding the home as I was able to afford more and more stuff, current state:
Bonus screenshot from house when I'd just begun with this sim and had used up all my starting money buying stuff to put in the house that I couldn't afford to actually finish the house :p.

Edit: Should note that last shot isn't even the house in its original state, I couldn't afford windows initially either :+

God damn, when you keep on playing, more and more bugs just cropped up. The action queue is messed up a lot of time and there were a lot of random action/interaction 'reset'.

Spent so much time trying to get dat friendship ambition goal, turned out you can't have more than one BFF and the guy at Sims 4 forum called it a known bug.

Many tiny little things just keep getting in the way of enjoying the game.

I need help enjoying Sims 4. I find myself spending most of the day trying to keep my Sim's bars in the green, and then they go to work and I do the green bar keeping game again the next day. Everything feels like I'm just ticking off checklists day to day and feel really bound to it. I think it's what killed my enjoyment of Sims 3 and it's starting to with this game too. I guess I don't understand how to properly play Sims? Help!

Also my first Sims died making grilled cheese sandwiches on the oven that burst into flames.

I've found neither, but I haven't gotten around to looking for them either. How do you go about doing that?

Thanks! I'm really happy with how it came out to be honest :)

Didn't know It's really that hard to find,
there's a weird looking tree right next to my frst house (daisy hovel, willowcreek), so I just clicked on it, lol

Don't worry about needs so much. Yellow is fine and your Sims will take care of themselves. If you fulfill their wants you'll eventually aquire aspiration rewards that will make the needs less demanding.

Also don't play a household with just 1 Sim. 2+ is far more fun.

Ouch. That's online connectivity stuff. I only play offline that .

I've sunk 19 hours in and unfortunately the lack of content is now more apparent now the gloss has worn off.

I could use more furniture. I feel like I have to end up using the same few paintings in every room. I'm hopeful that Mods will begin fixing this issue soon though.

Just timed a trip to the museum. 30 seconds of loading to go there, 25 seconds to come back. I wouldn't call that barely. It's shorter than the minutes long loading screen when you first loaded a game in the Sims 3, but in no way is it seamless.

On an SSD, which the poster youre responding to might be, the load times are only a few seconds.

From the 9/9 patch notes:

  • New decorative object! The High-Rider Gnome has journeyed long from his hidden grotto in the tropics to join you in The Sims 4.

Hopefully this is indicative that they're going to keep a trickle of free stuff coming in with patches, but I'm really worried since EA is being so tight lipped about what's coming for TS4 and how they plan on supporting the game.

Not managed to get a lot of hours in so far, but the sims themselves feel a lot more natural and less stiff in large part due to the multi-tasking. Lack of basements is a bugger though, as I honestly loved making multi-level houses, that dug down.

That's a good point. I wonder what the stats are on how many Sims players have an SSD.

And every new EP for for the Sims 3 meant a new patch for the base game with more content and features. I can't see that changing for Sims 4.

I really enjoy the build mode. Question for you guys, is there a high way to perfectly make a house design symmetrical? I'm trying different designs with roofs on each side of my house but I'd like to mirror it. I guess like a "copy + paste" thing.

Started a second sim and still on the first lot, kept expanding the home as I was able to afford more and more stuff, current state:

Nice house Kabouter. Slanted roofs look nice in this game.

Maybe.

I seem to recall that they disbanded the entire Sims 3 Store team, and they aren't going to be working on The Sims 4. I'm hoping this means that the store was not financially viable and they won't be trying that strategy again.

So this is fairly obvious but I figured I'd still ask. I got to level 10 of the writing career and pull in about 2500 simoleons per day from book royalties. These royalties won't stop if I decide to switch to another career will they?

No, but they will decline and disappear over time (regardless of whether you quit or not). Only way to continue getting income from book royalties is to write new ones with some regularity.
