What Japanese games would you most like to see on the PC?

I'm happy that I'm not the only person who is very excited and happy when Japanese games are announced on the PC and I can buy them on Steam.

But I've noticed that maybe when I do that it sounds like I'm not just happy to have the games that I do. But that I see it as something that will lead to games that I really love. I suppose it could seem like just a way of showing my happiness that more Japanese games are on Steam. And that I just want more games and am happy to have more.

But I think it's kind of true sometimes. That it's not so much the game that I'm happy about, but hopes that it will keep happening until things get better, and then I can have my most favourite games of all time on my favourite platform.

I'm sure there will always be new and more games I would like to have on my favourite platform. Since there are always more games that I love that happen. But a lot of my favourite video games are the same, and I've always wanted them on the PC.

Maybe some other people feel the same. So what are those games that you would like to see most on the PC that get you excited to see Japanese games come to the PC?

For me, with Namco, it's..
1. Tales
Tales is my favourite RPG series of all time. So more than any game series from Namco, or even RPG series, I'd love to see Tales games on Steam. For me, that would be a dream come true. Especially if it's a port I can be proud of. Mods would make up for it if it were a bad port, but if it were a good port, it would be even easier to tell everyone to buy and support it. I would buy so many copies of any Tales game if they were on Steam, I've already bought more than 50 copies of Recettear and more than 30 copies of Fortune Summoners.

2. Klonoa
Klonoa is my second favourite franchise from Namco or Bandai Namco. I don't love it as much as Tales, but I really really love it. Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil is one of my most favourite games ever. It's probably in my top 10 favourite PlayStation 2 games. And I would just love to have it and the Wii game on Steam so much. I'd buy it lotsa times to support it.

And while published by Bandai Namco, so I don't know how much CyberConnect counts, I'd love to see the .hack games on Steam. I love .hack and would love to play them again on the PC. I could do that with emulators, but having them on Steam would be even nicer. Besides, .hack is about an MMORPG, and MMORPGs usually come to the PC.

Really, I really like Namco Bandai or Bandai Namco in general. And there's so many other games that Namco Bandai has published or developed that I've love to see on Steam. Like Taiko no Tatsujin and Katamari. But Tales is my favourite.

It would be hard for me to choose a game, because I love all of them. But if I had to choose one, it would be Tales of Vesperia. Lotsa people love it, and while it's not my favourite Tales game and I think it's kinda overrated. It's really popular and new and pretty. And would be a great reason to bring all the PlayStation 3 content to the West. I feel like lots of people like the game and the cell shading is really pretty. And it would be neat to have Microsoft's first Tales game on Steam.

And I guess my second choice would be Tales of Symphonia Chronicles. Tales of Symphonia is my favourite Tales game. So while it doesn't have the most amazing graphics, it's still really pretty, and it has a wonderful story. I think it has a better story than Tales of Vesperia. I actually kind of want this game on Steam more than Tales of Vesperia because it's my favourite. But it's hard to decide.

From Capcom it's...

1. Mega Man
- Mega Man Powered Up

The whole franchise. I miss Mega Man in general. And Mega Man is one of my most favourite Capcom franchises, probably my favourite. Along with making more Mega Man games, I really wish they would bring them to the PC. Capcom has been really good with putting their games on Steam, too. I wish along with their other games they would put Mega Man games on Steam, so I could buy them and support them there.

It's hard to choose a single Mega Man game that I would like on Steam the most. But one of them would be Mega Man Powered Up. It's a kind of recent Mega Man game, and I love being able to play as Roll. And I've always loved the original Mega Man. And sharing stages online with Steam would be so neat!

2. Okami

Okami is such a beautiful game. I love playing it with PCSX2 and the HD remaster. I wish I could play such a beautiful game even more beautiful. In like 4K or something! If there's anything that would make me happy to have a nice graphics card, it would be being able to play a remaster of Okami on my PC. I play it so much on the PC already with PCSX2, I just wish I could support it on Steam.

I always just wish that there was a little more I could do. Having DLC and Okamiden would be nice, too. Depending on how it was done. Like, extra content and placed to go and things to do, they really could make it the best version of Okami. I wish it would happen so much. And imagine doing brushtrokes with your mouse? That would be lots of fun! I usually like playing games with a controller, but I think that doing brushstrokes with my mouse would be much more fun.

And I guess my third and other favourites would be Darkstalkers and Breath of Fire. I like Japanese RPGs, and Breath of Fire was pretty neat. Though by far my favourite Capcom franchise is Mega Man.

So I guess while with Namco Bandai, the games I would like to see most are Tales of Vesperia, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles, Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Graces and Xillia and all the other Tales games, and Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil. With Capcom, I guess if I had to choose one game I want the most on Steam, it would be Mega Man Powered Up.

For Konami, it's..

1. Bemani

There's actually not that many franchises from Konami that I'm fond of. But Bemani really sticks out. I'm a huge fan of Bemani. I've always been a candy kid and I've loved Dance Dance Revolution and techno music for a long time. Which is great because other things I'm a fan of are very in the techno culture still, like moe anime, and touhou, and things like that. I'm a big fan of J-Core and Touhou and everything P.L.U.R.

An arcade style franchise that is usually best with big metal pads might not seem like the best fit for the PC. But I don't see why not. After all, Stepmania has been really popular for a long time on the PC. So plenty of people who don't play it arcade style, play it with a keyboard just as much a controller. In fact, thanks to Stepmania, it might be more popular to play Bemani style games with a keyboard than a console controller. And you can always use a controller with a PC anyway.

With tablets and mini PCs and ultrabooks and all sorts of things as small and portable as consoles being PCs, and big picture mode. You could easily carry around a mat and a PC to play Bemani games. That's what people have done with Stepmania for years.

As a big Bemani and Stepmania and J-Core and Techno and Hardcore and Hardstyle and Trance fan and Touhou and things. I would just love to be able to play all my favourite kors k tracks on Steam and support him and my other favourite J-Core artists, and Bemani.

I guess if I had to choose one game I want the most, it would be Beatmania IIDX 16: Empress.

So I guess it would be Tales of Vesperia for Namco Bandai, Mega Man Powered Up for Capcom, and Beatmania IIDX 16: Empress for Konami.

There aren't too many other games I'm a big fan of from Konami. But the Suikoden and Twinbee games would be nice.

From SEGA, who are great and support the PC. There are lots of games I'd love to see more of. But my favourites would be..

1. Hatsune Miku Project Diva

Any of the games would be amazing. But Hatsune Miku Project Diva f would be a good place to start. It was hard to choose, because there's a lot of SEGA games and franchises I wish SEGA supported more. But I guess this one is a good first place.

2. Puyo Puyo Fever

I'm such a big fan of puzzle games like Panel de Pon, Puyo Puyo, and Magical Drop. I was so happy when Magical Drop came to Steam. And it would be so amazing to see Puyo Puyo come to Steam.

3. Sakura Wars

4. Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg

Already has a PC release. But it isn't perfect. I'd love to see an updated version on Steam.

5. Valkyria Chronicles

Another SEGA game I'd really really like to see on Steam is Phantasy Star Nova.

Oh yeah, and I shouldn't forget Atlus. I'm a big fan of the Etrian Odyssey games. So it would be nice to see those on Steam.

For Square Enix, it's really hard to choose. I kind of like a lot of games but maybe a lot of them wouldn't be good fits. And having a number one favourite game would be hard. For me it might be Seiken Densetsu 3.

So.. maybe something like this?

1. Seiken Densetsu 3
2. Kiki Kaikai
3. Bubble Bobble
4. Final Fantasy IX
5. Final Fantasy IV
6. Threads of Fate
7. Bravely Default: Flying Fairy
9. Chrono Trigger
9. Brave Fencer Musashi
10. Final Fantasy V

Though, some of these games are a little bit old. But that isn't a bad thing, is it? I mean, not every game has to push people's PC hardware. Many of the best things about PC gaming have nothing to do with graphics. And it's great that many people have put older games on the PC and Steam. I want all my favourite games on Steam. And even if they can be emulated, it's good to buy them.

But I guess some more graphical games like Final Fantasy X would be nice.

For Cave, I would love to see any Cave games on Steam. Along with Tales games and Klonoa games, Cave games are some of the ones I would most like to see on Steam.

It would be hard to choose just one game I would like to have most on Steam, because like Namco Bandai, I want to see almost all of their games on Steam. But I guess if I had to choose one it would be...

1. DoDonPachi SaiDaiOuJou

And I would love to see Touhou games on Steam. That would be a dream come true, too. Both the fangames and the official games. I keep hoping that ZUN will put his games on Steam.

And one of the reasons I always want to see Nintendo go third party is that I'd love to see them develop games for the PC like SEGA does. I buy Nintendo hardware just for Nintendo games because I love Nintendo games so much. Even if all my other favourite games and franchises came to Steam, I still wouldn't be able to stop being a console gamer, because of Nintendo.

Well, I'm going to take a break and just post the thread. It would be hard for people to read if I wrote too much. And there's just so many things to mention that I think this is good enough for now.

So why don't you share yours, please?

Wow OP, save some suggestions for the rest of us.

I'm not sure what I was going to ask for when I clicked the thread, but you convinced me that Mega Man: Powered Up and Sakura Wars are good ideas. Also, I said the other day that I'd like to give Blue Dragon a shot, so that.

Probably something recent like Dragons Dogma or Nier. Something I couldn't emulate. For future stuff, Final Fantasy XV is really the only thing I can think of right now.

I'd love to see Platinum's backlog ported, more Treasure (Gradius V please), more Sega games, and a lot of Capcom games on the service, mostly Clover games.

I really would like 999+VLR and Danganronpa 1+2 remastered.

Drakengard 3, this game had too many technical problems that would be probably be solved with more power.

Hot Shots Golf with mod support, endless fun.

Final Fantasy XIII and LR, no, I'm not joking. Playing with high poly characters (the ones used in cutscenes) would be awesome.

Disgaea 5 and Persona 5 so I don't have to buy a Playstation... 4.

Wow OP, save some suggestions for the rest of us.
You're right, my OP was too large. Hehe.

And I'm glad you like the idea of Mega Man Powered Up on Steam. There are so many great Mega Man games, it was hard to decided. But I felt like Mega Man Powered Up, being a remake of the first Mega Man game, would be a good introduction to the series on Steam. And it's a new Mega Man game with lots of options and benefits, you can play as multiple characters, and there's a level editor, which would be great with Steamworks, since you could share your level designs with everyone one Steam.

this is why pc gaming can never be the only thing, despite those people who keep making those threads.

I went on steam the other day to see if I could find "Catherine" and was a bit surprised that it wasn't on there. I'd love to see the valkeryia chronicles series on there too. damn it, I'm regretting going PC only this gen now :(

Dragon's Dogma please
THIS.

A MILLION TIMES THIS!!

What's especially baffling about this is that Dragon's Dogma is positively rife with technical issues that could very easily be resolved with a decent PC version, but no, none of that! Ugh! So much wasted potential!

The sequel (if there is one) better be on the PC to make up for this unbelievable oversight.

At least Persona was mentioned already :p

There's already a PC port for the first Persona game, even if it's really old and Japanese only. If only Atlus would do something with it.

Inuhanyou

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
Hory shit, that's a pretty pie in the sky OP.

It would be nice to see PC gamers get all these things, but i think that just highlights how much the logistical realities of going PC only must suck to those who like console exclusives. Don't hold yourself back for some sort of principle guys.

i'd kill for classic squaresoft and capcom games on steam... but seeing as how most of those are on NES and SNES, it's a no go

also I'm keeping fingers crossed for FFXV PC but that's pretty unlikely. or at least it's unlikely to launch on or around the console launches

1. Seiken Densetsu 3
2. Kiki Kaikai
3. Bubble Bobble
4. Final Fantasy IX
5. Final Fantasy IV
6. Threads of Fate
7. Bravely Default: Flying Fairy
9. Chrono Trigger
9. Brave Fencer Musashi
10. Final Fantasy V
Oh, silly me. I remembered to include Taito in Square Enix, but totally forgot about Enix. Which is strange, because Enix probably has my favourite games out of Square Enix. I'm a bigger Dragon Quest fan than a Final Fantasy fan. And I'm a really really really big Wolf Team fan.

That's so strange that I would forget one of my favourite video game companies outside of Tri-Ace and Namco Bandai.

Well, that's going to make things harder. Maybe something like, ...

1. Seiken Densetsu 3
2. Dragon Quest IX
3. Kiki Kaikai
4. Star Ocean: Second Story
5. Bubble Bobble
6. Star Ocean
7. Dragon Quest VII
8. Final Fantasy IX
9. Final Fantasy IV
10. Threads of Fate
11. Bravely Default: Flying Fairy
12. Chrono Trigger
13. Brave Fencer Musashi
14. Final Fantasy V
15. Final Fantasy VI
16. Wonder Project J2
17. Legend of Mana
18. Xenogears
19. Kingdom Hearts Final Mix
20. Chrono Cross

But maybe I should take newer games into more consideration. So maybe something more like this... ?

1. Bravely Default: Flying Fairy
2. Final Fantasy IX
3. Final Fantasy IV
4. Star Ocean 3
5. Kingdom Hearts Final Mix

This is difficult...
Some of the games I would like personally. And some of them would probably sell really well.

Maybe a few JRPGs. The rest of the FF series. Maybe Tales.
I'm not a huge fan of Japanese games. The other one I wanted was MGSV and that's coming.

Final Fantasy XIII-It already has fantastic visual quality, but I'm sure the PC could take it further.

Asura's Wrath-A beautiful and cinematic game that has some framerate issues. Would be really nice to fix that and have it run silky smooth.

Vanquish-The best playing TPS of last gen running at a silky smooth framerate would be amazing.

Drakengard 3-Hell, just to make it not run like shit through the power of brute force.

Xenoblade-To simply take it out of the SD ghetto.

Final Fantasy XII-The game already looks amazing when it's emulated. Would be nice to see what an HD PC port could do.

Ace Combat 3-Fuck if it got a PC port maybe the real version would get an actual localization.

Resident Evil Outbreak-The online community would never die and there would be so many communication work arounds.

Ace Combat 6-AH is pretty great at 60fps so I only assume this would as well.

Digital Devil Saga- I really do believe the fantastic visual style would scale amazingly well.

The Last Story-Jesus does this game need to be on something thats more powerful then the Wii.

I'm more interested in seeing all Japanese games from here on out getting a PC version before all back catalog is ported. Emulation has made most of the old stuff playable, there is no reason in this day to not release a PC version of new games.

Yeah but, the vast majority of Sega's PC power is western games. Only Japanese Sega titles I can name off the top of my head that are recent and on PC are Binary Domain and Jet Set Radio HD.

Dumping it in for Valkyria Chronicles though. Again.

FF15 would be nice as well.

Tales of Vesperia
Oh yay, another Tales fan!

It's my most favourite RPG series of all time. And that was my favourite one for this, though maybe kind of that was Tales of Symphonia Chronicles. I feel like Tales of Vesperia might be a better introduction to the series for PC gamers, though.

Tales of Vesperia already looks very pretty on the XBOX 360 and PlayStation 3. It would be so neat to have the best version on PC. Like, with dual audio. And all the PlayStation 3 content like Patty Fleur. And it would be so neat if they would put in new DLC that didn't exist before, like maybe a new dungeon or some new NPCs to do quests with. And it would also be so neat if they sold the soundtrack like a lot of games do.

Actually, they could sell both the soundtrack and the movie with it. That would be so neat! I would buy all of them again!

That would really be the definitive version if they could do things like that. It would be perfect, they could put in all sorts of resolution and other PC options, I could play Tales of Vesperia in 4K resolution. They could even maybe update a few textures. And then all the other stuff, like the soundtrack, all of the PlayStation 3 content, dual audio, and the movie.

That would be so amazing... I would be so happy...

Hell, ATLUS has a publishing history (of crazy Chilean wonders). It shouldn't take too much to get crazy Japanese on there. Shit, much of Megaten is mad PC-RPG friendly.

Most of the Jrpg from the 7th generation, rough development and floating budgets kinda compromised their quality. Valkyria Chronicles could use 32xMSAA/AF for example, Star Ocean could benefit from a higher resolution/framerate (nothing can fix the scenario), so would Vesperia, the fuzzy look kinda detracts from the cartoon graphics.

Any Japanese exclusive stuck on the PS3/360. Those games are decades away from being emulated properly.

Dont want to make a seperate thread since its not worth it, and this is japenese related (subtle dig at fighting game art style), so ill leave this here, very funny.

Mods tell us if this should go elsewhere, thanks.
No, that's not funny in the way your post is totally out of place in this thread.

That is an amazingly long OP.

Just seeing Japanese games getting on Steam is pretty nice, even when they're games that I don't particularly care for. It both helps set a precedent for more Japanese games on Steam and hopefully shows that there is a market for these games on Steam.

The one series in particular that I really want would be Atelier games. I've really been enjoying those games and would have no issue buying and playing them again. I'm also holding out hope for Touhou games getting on Steam at some point. If I remember correctly, ZUN did say he wanted to try releasing some of the newer games in the west and see how it does. Also, I'll go ahead and voice my desire for Tales games as well, although I really have no hope of those showing up on Steam. They seem pretty dead set on Playstation consoles.

Cave shooters. Seems like such a no-brainer.

What's up, Cave? Don't like money?

Also, this. More shmups on Steam is always good, especially from Cave.

On the fly:

Vanquish
Resonance of Fate
Star Ocean 4
Bayonetta

EDIT: Oh yeah, Dragon's Dogma, of course.

Platinum Games, Bayonetta 1 and Vanquish in particular. And of course Dragon's Dogma and basically any Capcom game.

The real answer is all of them though.

I need Vanquish and Bayonetta for my life to be complete. Vanquish not having a 60fps version available is an absolute travesty.
