How are these Destiny sales compared to other Western franchises? I know Call of Duty also sells quite a few copies in Japan, but what about other Western games?

so N3DS is going to sell over 3M units in 3 months ?

atm Vita is in YTD 886.194 (@release Vita will be around 935.000) I think n3DS can manage that with a Littel bit help of Yokai Watch 2, SSB 3DS and releasing with MH4G + pkmn OR/AS and maybe FF Expolerer could do something in that time frame.

And for sure the Season will help the n3DS.

PS4 will be getting a lot of new games in 2015 however most of those will be multiplatform so they won't have a dramatic effect on sales.

Huh? You still need a console to play them. Any PS4/X1 games (which is what most of them are) may as well be PS4 exclusive in Japan.

Edit: Derp. It just occurred to me that you probably meant PS3/PS4.

GTA5 (729k) >>>>>> CoD BO2 (336k+182k) >> BF4 (232k) > AC3 (124k)

Totals on PS3. Destiny should be able to do >200k combined when all is said and done. Unless it has a ton of legs it'll end up somehwere around BF4, but won't be near the success of CoD or GTA.

The ranking goes:

GTA - 780k
COD - 400k (ghosts)
Battlefield - 332k
TLoU - 270k
Destiny (so far) - 140k

Destiny has a chance to overtake TLoU if it has really good legs.

Are you saying that Vita will sell only 115k units by the end of the year?
Its less that 8k consoles per week.
Good luck for that :lol

No it will sell more. Last year's YTD was 1.2 million. This year it could be 1.4 million. I still think that n3DS will outsell it though.

Destiny Ps4 outselling the Ps3 version 2X is pretty huge.

Hopefully this will lead JPN devs to immediately shift their focus to Ps4 instead of sticking with the Ps3.

Shit week for Vita. Boo.

No, you won't. Whether it's 3DS saturation or the New 3DS announcement, the numbers would look the same. New 3DS will definitely be strong out of the gate, and there has been 3DS saturation talk all year. You'll just be having the same argument in a month, with different numbers.

Wouldn't surprise me at all. It has changeable faceplates. It only has to sell 1M though.

You are right, about 1M is the YTD, over 3M is the LTD

Looking forward to the MGSV: TPP and DQH numbers between PS3 and PS4

I'm pretty sure that all western games this past year have sold better on PS4 than PS3, I don't think that effects Japanese games in the slightest.

I think N3ds can do between 1-1.25 million this year alone. I also wonder if Level 5 will release a third Yokai Watch which has exclusive features only on the N3ds compared to the 3ds

Glad to see some life in the Japanese market... good on Smash and very surprising that Destiny has pushed consoles. Or was it the Sony conference and announcement of more Japanese-focused titles? Now I'm pretty eager to see what will happen upon release of P5, Type 0 HD, FFXV and other Japanese-focused releases...

more like for Yokai 3 next Year, with an NFC feature:

Yokai-Watch Amiibo support.

Level 5 wins again.

Make it 300k for the rest of the year. Nothing will change

Vita sold 500k consoles between last year's week 38-52.
Since Vita is selling better YoY I think that there is a strong possibility that it will sell more than 300k even without new hardware.

If they won't retire OG 3DS and LL i don't think that the n3DS/LL alone can menage to sell over 1.2m consoles.

Really good week for 3DS, software-wise. SSB had a monstre debut, outstanding legs for YW2 (next week 2.5m!); some titles are rising (DB, Gundam) probably helped by SSB / new owner. DQX did incredibly weel given the awful WOM.

Probably not, but that's not important.
the PS4 bump is.
As I was saying last week, it is clear to me that PS4 has way more potential than Wii U. When a Wii U game hits, HW bump is insignificant; when PS4 game hits...I mean, this is a bigger bump than the one generated by MK8, a game that debuted with more than 300k, or a higher bump that the one generated by Hyrule Warriors, that registered similar debut numbers

PS4 numbers are due to a bundle, which also introduced a new color. Wii U didn't hav a bundle for Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors and Pikmin 3. When Wii U bundle hit (last year, NSMB+Wii Party U), the hardware went to sell +40k (and they were old games). So it's not really fair to compare the two situations, in my opinion.

Also, you have to consider that PS4 is still at 700k units, while Wii U is close to 2m. This kind of hardware bumps are more likely when the installed base is smaller; among those 2m Wii U owner, many of them bought the hardware waiting for MK8.

Then I can agree with you with the fact that PS4 might see a higher weekly average then Wii U in 2015, but this week numbers are not exactly a sign of anything.

Thanks. I had been confused by the French and didn't understand what this was earlier in the thread.

Nice debut! I'd say that this indicates that the 3DS market is extremely healthy in Japan. It will be very interesting to see how the 3DS edition does in the rest of the world and how the Wii U version does overall.

Last Year 3DS managed to sell only in November + December 1170k.

Now you will tell us that a New Revision + the Trinity (MH4G, Pkmn OR/AS, SSB 3DS) + the New Friend (Yokai Watch 2) will not match this sales?

If i add October to that last Years Sales we look at 1768k for 3 Months. The relese scale is the same like last Year + we have a Revision and the Big Hitters are releasing later (in favor for the n3DS).

Smash U will have to have some awesome features different from the 3ds version to sell anywhere close to that on Wii U.

In Japan? That would be about a 40% attach rate. I can't see the first week numbers being nearly that high (Although who the hell knows).

Hoping the Wii U version is more feature packed than the 3ds one. Stage builder will be a good start. subspace emissary exclusive to wii u would be another.

No one is going to buy a 3ds when there's a new model announced to come out next year.

Nintendo shouldn't have announced the new model so early. They should start launching hardware 1 week after the announcement keep demand high.

I have no idea what they are on with falling to have the new system ready for the release of smash or at least the holiday in the U.S.

Was there a lot of marketing for Destiny in japan?

I never know which western titles will do fairly well in japan and which don't sell at all.
