OH MY GOD. IS THIS REAL LIFE. WTF

You know what I miss most about Final Fantasy? The FANTASY. It's a sci-fi series now.

And I get it's been that way since like 7 (6 more steampunk), I just miss when it was swords and sorcery instead of guns and cars. 9 brought it back though

And guys in plate mail with assault rifles, really?

Guess I'll just going to go play FF4 and relive the glory days.

I don't know, I've been pretty burned on FF since 12 and that was due to game play. 13, well we know whats wrong with that.

I hope I'm wrong and 15 is awesome but Square seems incapable of making good choices anymore.
I've never thought Fantasy had to be a specific thing. Fantatsy to me just seems like something completely dreamlike and unrealistic. Pretty much all post VII games have had that quality and 15 looks no different. Despite a look that draws from a modern world obviously, it's something clearly fanciful and unrealistic.

Yes, dude's in cars jump out of car to fight guys in plate armor on there way to exaggerated Super Venice

It's a completely other world sounding and looking world and that's why I like FF, because it takes you to these very imaginative places. So I have no problem if it's not Fantasy like elves and swords. It never came off as a series like that to me and I think it's way better for it.

Environmentally, it never did.

I forgot they originally had moving character portraits on the hud. Glad they got rid of that eyesore.

I'm expecting linear styled progression in semi open hubs.

Car is replaced with private jet or airship 3/4 through the game, revisit past areas.

Wait wasn't this game supposed to have an actual world map and stuff?

I swear Nomura said this at one point.

It doesn't look anything like that. Fuck.

My biggest problem is that it seems like there is no thematic consistency in the art design.

Huge Dinosaur monsters, naturalistic landscapes, and then a Mercedes Benz driving around with future looking knight dudes to fight.

Just doesn't seem to tie together at all and is lacking a unifying cohesive vision.

I have to completely disagree with this. The world is clearly technologically advanced, hence the car and modern looking cities we've seen in the past.

How does this preclude "natural looking areas" from existing? Of course there will always be natural areas, regardless of how modern a setting is.

I can deal with that. Pretty much like every FF game before it.

Same. I'd be totally fine with a Xenoblade style progression, too. Progression is linear in terms of areas and how they connect, but the areas themselves are very large with lots of exploration.

Think they did. They mentioned Luna, and then a date, and then we see the woman who looks like an older version of Namine' >.>

I don't really mind the change, but a bit weird since I'm sure they had a bit of VA recorded already with "Stella". Who knows, though.

I miss the adventure. Massive plots with amazing places to visit. This trailer looks so generic. Cant believe people are hyped just because it looks pretty. Its like ffxiii or more recently killzone, infamous ss, and destiny all over again. Hey we are driving on the road. Oh look we are on a grassy field killing some monsters. Oh hey we are back on the road. Now we are in the woods. Back on the road again. Lets explore this cave. But hey it looks pretty so this is obviously goty material. Ugh. Nothing about this trailer says big epic adventure. It looks boring.

Most of those weren't road trips though.

IX, X and XIII at most.

You're right, I just don't find it to be a new concept for the series and the characters look bland as hell. Nothing about anything I've seen so far tells me why I should be excited about embarking on this trip with these dudes.

Calling it now - car gets crushed/destroyed halfway/ 75 percent through game and you feel absolutely and totally emotionally ruined, like you just lost a best friend.

Or it breaks down at one point and you have to say goodbye to it on the side of the road.

oh my god that trailer you guys

The warp sword is interesting. I wonder if it will factor into traversal in a meaningful way (e.g. certain areas will be walled off until the sword is upgraded somehow), or if it's just a fast travel tool to cut down on walking.

It's not about thinking outside the box, it's about presenting a universe that feels cohesive and makes logical sense.

In past Final Fantasy games, vehicles and environments were just as over the top and fantastical as the monsters that resided in the area. There was a logical consistency to everything. Of course I could accept a flying magical airship because everything else in the universe was grounded in that same sort of logic.

The mishmash of real world technology and environments combined with the absolutely ludicrous monster design doesn't "work" for me. It's a very jarring juxtaposition that seems incredibly random.

If the monsters were treated with the same sort of grounded sense of reality as the world itself (something that would feel completely fresh and new to the Final Fantasy series, I could see myself buying into the universe more.

You are free to like what you saw, I'm just explaining why I personally don't like it.

ew that would mean generic monsters which is a no thanks. let them create illustrious monster designs. again, you are limiting yourself. yeah the vehicle is real so that should mean the animals should also be grounded? how and why? that's like a person from the middle ages looking at the fantasy games based on medieval settings and saying, "wow this looks realistic but the monsters are too out of this world."

I wonder what is the story conceit as to why weapons just appear out of nowhere. I guess all can be swept away with "magic"

Also the car is super weird.

Graphics, yes, seem inconsistent (i.e. car looks bleh, sunset looks awesome, etc.)

XIV is a fully fantasy world, XIII wasnt, XII was, XI also was, so was X, and so on.
