This game can still win me if in future trailers they reveal new playable characters (hopefully not looking like jpop guys) and a little more about the world in the game, so we can understand why it's so contrasted.

I think I just realized how early in the development stage this game if, regardless of the year it was originally anounced.

Edited. I definitely should focus on mastering the language before trying to make jokes.

Wow that's uh. I would definitely phrase that differently.

Hey, no need for that here.

The language of your post is possibly insulting, so I suggest you correct it.

The game is not early in development anymore.

Combat looks like Xenoblade + The Last Story, which is encouraging.
Locales look like Xenoblade, too. Also encouraging.
The banter between characters is also neat, but I hope character development doesn't overwhelm the playtime.

I'm just not sure about how exploration and progression will pan out.

I was just making fun of the notion that the only way a women could ever enter this manly group of manly men is through a plot twist. Them being bros and all. It seems that the notion that men can't have female friends is strong here.

That wasn't my intention. My point is that the story setting has already set these group of males as close friends/bodyguard/advisor of a royal prince (with mafia inspirations).

With that kind of foundation, it would be unnatural for these guys to let in strangers into the mix. It's like if a life-long group of 4 friends suddenly decide to pick up a stranger for no particular reason. Even if they have female friends, unless that female friend is part of the royal entourage, why would they bring her along? What's the story logic (from what we know so far ) that makes that piece connect?

When you're built on that kind of foundation, then a plot twist is necessary to shake it. Just like how Noctis's kingdom getting attacked is a reason why he's not lounging around a prince's chair, but having to escape? from his pursuers on the road.

Every story has its 'foundation logic' that tries to make sense the characters in a RPG party. Rinoa was pulled into a group of mercenaries because of plot twist that put her as a client, who becomes something more. Zidane ended up working with a bunch of eccentric strangers because his thief friends all got petrified. Etc.

I hope this game has endless play value and perhaps in the future an online experience. I like the new direction that Square Enix is taking with the Final Fantasy series.

Yo this was not what I was expecting at the top of the page when I opened this thread.

Edit: Wow you somehow managed to make it even worse with your edit.

Yea it makes sense that a young mafia-esque prince type would be rolling with his bro-party; but holy mother of god... it's a big bro party.

I don't care how they put together the world, but I hope it's more coherent than FFXIII. The various areas did not appear to have any real relation to one another at all, and often came up as a series of very pretty but arbitrary zones.

Is this... is this a road trip game?

Because I don't think I ever realized how much I wanted something like that until watching this.

The combat... eh. It looks nice for that sort of game, but doesn't feel very Final Fantasy to me. Am I the only one who still enjoys turn based combat?

i like both. i also liked xii's combat. i'll take anything as long as they release the game to me.

if the car ride bit is like Half-Life 2's coastal drive, where you can just book it from the Antlion beach to Nova Prospect or stop and explore the shit you find on the road

that'd be cool

So we have another female character that could be "key" in the story, given that the her name is so similar to the one of our queen Stella, given that Stella in italian is "Star" and Luna means "Moon", so there's probably some sort of connection between them.

I'm really intrigued by how they'll end up merging all the pieces we've seen so far, and I hope they'll manage to polish a bit the edges of the cars and the backgrounds.

Nomura said:
For instance, someone [important] dies, and you must take revenge, well it won't be a soppy story like that. It will adopt a more general "road movie" sense. As to why I chose a story about men, well, for example, among school friends, when they go traveling, it's normal to see any combination of fellows in groups of all one gender. That's all. We can look back on when we were students, and remember enjoying horsing around with our peers with no particular aim in mind.

"Reason: Edited because of people not understanding jokes."

So, which one is it? Are we at fault because we don't find faggot funny or are you at fault for using it?

Yeah, It's been described as a road trip like game for years now. The combat has always been described as KH style and from the trailer, that seems to be intact although a bit slower. Turn based combat is fine but I definitely love Action RPG's just as much.

Who cares? Just move on, there's absolutely no reason to give that guy any attention. You're almost as bad as he is by doing this.

I'm not seeing much resemblance to Xenoblade combat at all. Aside it taking place on an open land and there's no battle transition. Really looking forward to the game and hope the combat is fun and varied. I like what LR tried to do with it's combat. So long as there's meaningful depth I'll be a happy camper.

I know, it was just the funny wording and of course the foundation as you call it. I was really only half serious, and whatever slight criticism I have is definitely going toward the developers and not you.

Uh, sure. Thanks.

On topic, I do remember some time ago that Nomura stated that Noctis' personality would differ from the usual Final Fantasy protagonist. Although news of Nomura leaving came out just yesterday, I have not seen anything even remotely different in Noctis' mannerisms or personality even years ago when we saw our first glimpses of the then Versus XIII. Was this just PR talk?

If this weren't FF I'd be into it. However I can't be the only one ready for a return to the likes of FF6 or FF9 settings.

I think as a community we should care. Those who say "who cares?" are about as bad by ignoring the problem.

Return? FF14 is already there.

A slower-paced action RPG akin to Crisis Core is probably more what I'd expect now (well, that's the vibe I'm getting).

The new slower-paced combat looks fantastic. I do wonder if it's auto-attack and you do special moves a la Xenoblade, or if it's KH-esque control wise.

We should care but it's been quoted enough to be plenty visible to the mods. It'll be dealt with or not, their decision. Continuing to respond just derails the thread.

On the topic of a road trip JRPG, would you folks expect the plot to conjure up plenty of reasons to leave/abandon the actual vehicle? I'm very interested to know how this will work without repeated "oh no the car has broken down/this area is only passable on foot" scenarios.

I dig the road trip aspect. Some of the better moments in Final Fantasy is the initial setup, where the group wander and experiences the world. Setting up the final act and making the whole game tense just messes with a good sense of pace.

FF7 did this well. Bust out of Midgard, not entirely sure where youre going, just following Sephiroth. Its not until late game that you know exactly what you need to do.
