Wow, that is a huge red flag for me. If I offered to send the money as Payment for Goods or Services while covering the fees (which I usually do) and they insisted on it being a gift, I would have nope'd my way right on out of that transaction. Recon ripping me off has made me a lot more cautious about my PayPal transactions.

he made up some excuse so i just ignored him after that.

The fact the guy was REFUSING payment on anything but a Paypal Gift was off-putting, I've dealt with some really legitimate sellers on here who stated they preferred the Gift option obviously to lower fees, and in response I would just add the 3% onto the price and pay that total as a legitimate "goods and services" fee.

Lets face it, we're all on here to get some good deals, look at paying that 3% yourself as a buyer as nothing more than a cheap sales tax on an already great deal. Everybody wins.
