The one and only "House".

Night of the Creeps

It's like a nerd college movie/horror movie in one

(Another good nerd college/horror movie is Vamp)

Terrorvision is often overlooked, but it's absolutely hilarious. The swinging parents, the survivalist grandfather and grandson, the heavy metal daughter and boyfriend all are amusing on their own.

My teen years were spent consuming a lot of 80s horror movies, and I have an affinity for the decade/its impact on the genre. Most of my favourite horror movies either came from the late seventies or the eighties.

There are too many good ones to name, but:

Sleepaway Camp
April Fool's Day
Nightmare on Elm Street series
Friday the 13th series
Hellraiser
Halloween films
Return of the Living Dead
Day of the Dead
Re-Animator

The list could go on for a while, but my absolutely favourite horror movie is Black Christmas. Fuck the remake.

I don't like movies that are too cheesy, so I stay away from certain horror movies. A lot of indies are just too silly for me.

Anyone remembers one where a bunch of teenagers were at a house that turned out to be haunted? There was an old lady living in the house. One by one, the teens started being murdered, but coming back to life as their "evil" self. Kind of like Pet Cemetery.

I remember a scene where one of them tried escaping through a second story window, but the glass came off and started chopping the guy in half. He later came back and you could see that he had put his two halves back together. It could have been an early 90's flick.

Not a horror movie at 100% but still fun as hell.

'70s is definitely my favorite decade for horror, but there're some great '80s gems. I really loved Return of the Living Dead.

The one and only "House".
I'm glad these got mentioned; I loved them as well.

While they're not restricted to the 80's, the horror magazines like Fangoria were a huge part of that decade too. I'm sure I spent more time pouring over them than actually watching the films. Until home video really took off and we got our first VCR I never had a chance of seeing most of these movies. I especially remember drooling over the ads in the back.
These masks were like the coolest thing in the world to me when I was 13.

Superstition?

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084739/

Just looked that one up...Nope, not it either. Again, very similar. Wonder who copied who?

Check the sequels too. There's two followups to the original and a recent remake.

I can't recall anyone being cut in half by glass, but it's been a long time since I've seen them and it sounds like something that might have happened in Night of the Demons 2.

Edit: Superstition looks hilarious, haha. On the list it goes!

You sure it's not Superstition? That's the only movie I can think of with someone getting split in half by a window Lol: http://youtu.be/NTuzLY1HzZo?t=10m18s

Wow, almost exactly like the scene I described, but that ain't it either, lol.

Night of the Demons had teenagers being killed, and coming back to life trying to kill the rest of the cast, but there was no evil old lady, and no window scene.

Superstition had the house, the old lady, and even a goddamn window-splitting scene, lol.

Didn't have teenagers coming back to life though, and I forgot to mention that the guy who got split by the window came back and drank a coke. I believe you could see the soda leaking out from where he got split in half.

The only one that matters, the one, the only, the MOAT:

I mean you get shit like this:

the+thing+spider.jpg

That is pure nightmare fuel on top of the stuff the movie alludes to, and the fact that the movie is so goddamn depressing and rife with paranoia.

Night of the Demon is one of the best shitty 80s horror films ever.

There's a line where a character tells another character to eat a bowl of fuck.

12 year old me had no idea fuck was a thing you could eat, much less put in bowls.

I looked them up...I actually saw both of those on tv back in the 90's. Unfortunately, neither one is the one I'm thinking of.

Ha, yeah, I just skimmed through it on youtube, very silly 80's feel to it. That dance scene, lol.

Soleil rouge's question is bothering the shit out of me.

It's been bothering me for years. I've only seen it once when I was around 6 - 7. It also had a bad ending - as in, the evil wins at the end.

Damn. Well, I'm out of ideas. It's bothering me now too, haha. Be sure to post here if you find it.

Will do.

And just to keep the thread going, this is one of the greatest:

Doesn't really fit the vibe we got going in this thread (campy horror), but it is funny in some parts, in a dark way. Brutal movie. Highly recommended, especially if you're interested in serial killers since the main character is based on a real one.

My man.

There's so much good stuff in this thread. Absolutely love 80s movies. Though I was born in the 80s, I missed out on horror due to a bit overprotective parents. I'm catching up though. Threads like these have helped me discover dozens and dozens of great gems I would've otherwise completely missed. Some obscure and less obscure ones I think GAF recommended me:

Chopping Mall
Dead Heat
Dead & Buried
The Blob
The People Under the Stairs
Castle Freaks
Night of the Demons
Society
The Night of the Creeps
Pet Sematary
The Toxic Avenger
In The Mouth of Madness
Tales from the Crypt Demon Knight
Fright Night
Swamp Thing
An American Werewolf in Paris
CHUD
They Live

I'd like to recomend 2 overlooked gems

The movie reeks 80's, from the girl's fashion, to the mom using aerobics thong inside the house. It's fun and cheesy

Not a horror movie at 100% but still fun as hell.

I tried watching this but it was too dumb for me. I wanted to see Commander Chakotay in something other than star trek and he was better innthis than all of Voyager.

I'm seeing a serious lack of Basket Case and Brain Damage.

Also no Scanners?

COME ON GUYS.

Oh and uh a little movie called The Thing. Yeah. Just going to put that right there.

Edit: Oh good someone mentioned The Thing.
