Bandanna Dee is literally just a generic Waddle Dee with a bandanna and a spear who was created because they needed a fourth playable character in Return to Dream Land. He's the Waluigi of the Kirby universe, except he's appeared in like three games as opposed to fifty. King Dedede is carried in by four Waddle Dees as he enters the battlefield. King Dedede is accompanied by a lone Waddle Dee during one of his victory poses. It would be like making Chrom playable even though he already shows up in Robin's Final Smash. A weapon does not give a character personality, I'm afraid.

"Hey uh... remember that generic bandanna-wearing Waddle Dee that appears as a cameo in Megaton Punch in Kirby Super Star? Totally the same one from Return to Dream Land."

I think a more apt comparison would be Toad. I mean, Blue and Yellow Toad were both playable in NSMBWii, so they should totally be playable in Smash.
And sadly, there are people who honestly think this way.

If Captain Toad receives more than 1 game he may have an actual chance for Smash 5 though.

Nobody even cares about Squirtle or Ivysaur, do they?

BibleThump

I only care about Ivysaur in Project M, where she's my #2 alongside Toon Link and G&W. In Brawl Ivysaur and Squirtle were really just accessories to Pokemon Trainer, and that's probably all they'll ever be since I don't see them coming back.

Mourning will continue through to Smash 5 for Mewtwo and Ice Climbers, however.

Hey, Captain Toad's in Mario Galaxy, Mario Galaxy 2, and 3D World, just like Rosalina!

Anybody know if any of their local Gamestops are doing midnight releases? Mine is, iidk if i'll head up there, haven't really decided, don't know if it's really gonna be all that big for a portable game, I might just get it first thing in the morning. I'd definitely for sure go to a Wii U version midnight though.

Honestly, the fact that him being playable means being able to use the Spear ability in Smash completely negates the fact that he's not iconic or anything

Hey guys, so I've kinda gone back into a lurking state because this thread got kinda shitty around the time when the Melee faithful started complaining about VI and the rage effect, but I'm still around and have been busy playing/covering Smash 3DS with Andre for GameXplain (as you guys have seen) and I've obviously still been posting, just not as often.

The Smash 3DS hate/Melee worship seems to have mostly died down, though, so I thought now would be a good time to pop in and ask if there are any questions you have about the US version. I've been playing the full version for about a week now (GameXplain review copy, not some crazy early retailer release) and am not slowing down, so let me know! There are certain things I can't talk about due to NDA (which is silly, given that everything's been on the net for weeks), but I'll do what I can. I was going to post some English trophy text for particularly noteworthy tropies (Wolf, Ivysaur, Ice Climbers, etc.), but it seems that all has been dumped already, so...

Anyway, you guys probably don't have any questions since we know pretty much everything about the game now, but let me know if so!

This game is stupid fun, by the way. I've been unable to play anything else on my 3DS since I got my review copy, even though I got Theatrhythm Curtain Call right before it and it's been one of my most anticipated games of the year (along with Smash). It's really just a technical marvel; the fact that Sakurai and his team were able to get a game with this much content that looks and sounds this great running so smoothly on the 3DS - even with 3D on - just fucking astounds me.

Also, where are we at on datamine leaks? I've seen the text dumps that seem to confirm that an "in-game shop" (DLC) is on the way - no surprise there - and I know crowd chants for the cut Brawl characters were found... anything else?

Despite being more relevant of a character than Rosalina once Treasure Tracker comes out, he's still just a Toad.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he gets into Smash 5 though.

Uh what, that seemed mostly on Smashboards for the most part (and the quality of posting on Smashboards is barely better than effing GameFAQs so...), people on here seemed pretty civil to me if they were criticizing Smash 3DS. >_>

That's about it, there's also the localized names/descriptions for all the customized moves which is pretty handy.

I'll take "Things that Never Happened" for $600, Alex.

Was it the other Smash thread, then? Because I clearly remember that this thread was nearly unreadable for awhile because of all the flipping the fuck out people were doing over VI and the rage effect. There were lots of "Well, Smash 4 had a nice run" and "Back to Melee!" posts around that time.

Wait, someone found more than just the Ice Climbers?

That's what I read, but it could have been a mistake or rumor or something. But I thought I read they had been found...

Ash always go off about Melee fans. He just has some weird obsession with them.

I wonder what Ridley's introduction text would be. I'm thinking something like...

"Ridley sizes up the competition!"

"Ridleys flies in!" or something to that effect.

Well, there was the Anura thing from the other day.

Did anyone else get PeachyHime vibes from that? Similar comments that generated lots of controversy.

Why's being a Toad a negative? They're like the most iconic characters that aren't playable yet.

Yes, that's totally it. I'm making this up and just love talking about Melee fans. Good one!

Before you start more shit:

-Yes, people complained about VI and Rage effect
-No, people did not declare the game dead and if they did they were only joking. They only voiced their concern.
-Some non-Melee fans (don't know what to call you guys. Smash 4 fans?) took this complaining as declaration of the game being dead. Lots of "You guys need to learn to adapt" and "You guys are just looking for an excuse to go back to Melee"
-Melee fans tried to explain the latter excuse is exactly the opposite of what they want
-Both sides reluctantly shut up, eventually

Also
-One person said they were starting to get bored of the game, and wanted to go back to Melee/PM
-People took this the wrong way and branded him/her as judging the game too quickly and then generalized all melee fans
-People stopped voicing their opinions because they're clearly not wanted in this thread

Why's being a Toad a negative? They're like the most iconic characters that aren't playable yet.

They're the generic NPC character. Generic being the key word. So generic that they're part of Peach's moveset, just like Waddle Dees were part of Dedede's moveset in Brawl.

I barely remember anyone coming on here and being high and mighty about melee or shittalking the 3DS version I mean... there's a couple of people who had some valid criticisms about the game, but it was like one or two people. Most of it was just people commenting on what Smashboards was saying.

In my time with the full game so far, there's a lot of things I like, but there's a lot of very troubling things with the 3DS version. Hopefully these will be rectified in the Wii U version. Most of my problems with the actual game mechanics are shaking out over time as I get used to it.

They're usually hapless sidekicks at best and the worst victims of bowser's wrath usually.

Pretty sure the file structures were found but I don't think anyone extracted audio for the Brawl cut characters + Alloys. Looked like leftover data from Brawl's file structure than anything actually substantial.

well vocal minority =/= actual representation. Shoot I posted about the rage mechanic in FGW and most people seemed pretty neutral about it, and I'd say we're probably more critical of "comeback mechanics" than anyone in this topic.

I can't find any blatant Melee worshiping by searching in this topic btw.

I did find this quote by Revven and felt it's somewhat related:
That mentality is always going to persist. The people who say that were never and are never going to play Smash 4 so there's really no reason to pay any attention to them. The people who actually matter, like D1 (as an example) seem to really like the game so far -- the people who actually attend tournaments are who matters. Not what some random joe schmoe says on a forum.

There was also some talk about how Melee is objectively the best Smash game as far as control over your character goes and that's arguable (I'd agree personally, but I don't necessarily agree it's the best direction for the series to go either), but that was a pretty civil discussion as well.

Regardless, throwing around shit like "Melee worship" isn't going to help anything dude. Like was that comment even necessary? Just stirs up conflict. Let people enjoy what they want... People are allowed to voice concerns anyway, this is a discussion forum.

Hey Ash, is there anything online that you might've already shown regarding the mii fighter outfits? I'm curious to see all the outfits we can put on them.

To be fair to him, Toad already was one of the early playable characters in the Mario universe (SMB2 USA) with a unique characteristic (picking up grass much faster than anyone else) and was playable for a lot of games, ranging from Mario Kart to mainline 2D Mario to 3D Mario games.

I hate that Toad is a species :( . I'm glad Captain Toad exists and basically replaced THE Toad, but it still makes me a little sad that Toad morphed from a single entity of the Mushroom People, to being the name for all Mushroom People.

Unless I'm wrong. Or something.

I'm reminded of that article from the other day where some of the site's commentator's were legitimately concerned Smash 4 would encroach on Melee's "territory" at EVO or w/e.

Emphasis on "some." We should be more careful with generalizations.
