Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor PC Performance Thread

oops, forgot to post my performance:

Windows 8.1
i7 3770k @ 4.5 Ghz
16 GB RAM
GTX 780 ti 3GB

I'm playing at 2560x1440 with bordleless window mode. Everything set to max and all options enabled except for textures set to high and AO set to high.

Benchmarks gives me an average FPS of 72. Gameplay is nice and smooth, the only time I had any dips below 60 was in the opening rain scene with the character's son fighting the orcs. After that even in large crowds, FPS stays solid.

I'm having a ton of issues. Super long, ridiculous loading times. Input lag like crazy. Sudden fps drops. But then there are times when everything works just fine. Can anyone help?

Did you follow the directions exactly or did you have to do anything different? I will try it when I get home.

The directions are incomplete. You have to specify the SLI rendering mode, which is not mentioned. The F.E.A.R 3 profile used force afr, so that is what I used, but other people have successfully used afr2 as well.

The controls in this game seem very laggy. Is it just me?

They aren't veyr laggy during normal combat, BUT, the moment I try to use the bow... holy cow, it's like trying to aim with my thumbs! Oh wait, I'm playing with a gamepad ;)

Seriously, it's definittely ahrder than I rememer it being to aim with the gamepad in this game. The sticks feel laggy, and over-reactive/fiddly.

You could try turning vsync off and capping the framerate to 60 using rivatuner (included with afterburner). Try overclocking your monitor a little too. Mines is at 63Hz and I cap games at 60 FPS and leave vsync off. That way I get smooth responsive gameplay and I don't get tearing.

I think i might try the in-game option to cap fps at 60 since they offer it.

And how do you do borderless window?

Anyone on a 970 at 1440P? Bonus points if you're shooting for 90fps! Trying to decide what to turn down to get consistent performance.

Even out of combat, controlling l the camera is a pain. There is a very noticeable delay between input and response (using both a gamepad and mouse). I also feel that the camera is way too close to Talion.

It has worked for several members who have posted in this thread, including myself.

I can't seem to find mordor on the list.

Edit: Nm, found it

Edit again: I tried changing it with no luck, still seems like only one of my cards is actually working.

After playing a bit...

- The game looks MUCH better than I thought.
- The IQ (outside of the benchmark...) seems too good for 1080p no AA... Weird.

I am also using the Fear 3 SLI profile and it is working fine for me. Running Ultra textures on a 970 and so far it's without issue.

I should be able to get decent performance(30fps and over) even with a 8320, is that correct? It is clocked at 4.0ghz. This is for a res of 1920x1080 with a mixture of medium, high, and ultra settings. My 7950 is not an issue judging by that chart.

After playing perfectly for about 6 hours, I'm suddenly getting this horrible stutter in the game, not sure why, guess I'll restart my PC and see if it that helps.

So I got it up and running on my new 970s in SLI

i5-4690K @ 4.5 ghz
GTX 970 SLI OC'd to 1455 mhz boost
16gb ram 1866

at 1440p all max settings average 99fps in the benchmark. Ultra textures. Utilized 3.5 gb Vram.

Who knows what will happen in game though. I think I'll prolly have to tone my OC down and set it to high textures.

Likewise. I've been playing with High textures from the beginning on my 2Gb 770 and I've noticed a slight stutter now too. Its very brief and isn't too disruptive but its there. Strange..

Played the game for about an hour with my rig

AMD FX-6300 stock
8 gig of 1600 ram
Amd radeon r9 280 3 gig

everything at max only have texture at high and i run the game at an average of 40 fps. I will overclock the cpu a bit in the coming weeks just to see how far can i push the game. but so far the game is well optimized in my opinion !

Maxed out(+ultra textures), game runs great, 40/60 fps gameplay, some stutter after events/menus, but good fps.

Ok gfx, not bad, not supra neither, game's pretty well optimized, maybe need a little bit more AA.

Already 11H time played, fun time playing it. I'm not disappointed for 35€ (game+sp).

Thanks for sharing. I'm also running with an AMD cpu, but haven't purchased the game yet.

Every so often I'll run into textures that are messed up. It's either checkered rainbow colors, or one time it was blinding white. :(

Is there something screwy going on with the in game benchmark?

I figured I could run the game fairly well, considering I'm right on the recommended specs (only I have an i5-4670 instead of an i7), and the games auto-detect option sets me at ultra everything except high textures and ambient occlusion.

But then I run the benchmark, and it has me rapidly fluctuating between 30 and 60 fps, then dropping to 30 and remaining solid there for several seconds then jumping back up to 60 again. I have to drop my settings down to medium to keep from fluctuating between 30 and 60, and even then I get noticeable dips into the 40s. I tried going back to ultra and capping the framerate at 30 to see if I could get a stable framerate that way, and it was stable at 30 for a bit, but then started rapidly fluctuating between 30 and 60 (and I did restart the program after I changed the setting).

I really hope this is just in the benchmark, and the whole game isn't like that.

And how do you do borderless window?

There's an option in the menu. Look for fullscreen and change that to borderless.

Yes the controls are a bit weird. Seems like the acceleration on the camera panning is a bit iffy. It'll go fast sometimes and slow others. People have said the PS4 has weird control issues too so it's probably to do with the game.

I'm using VHQ settings with the following setup:

I5 3570k 3.4ghz

R9 270x 2gb

8GB corsair vengeance

I was average around 45-55 fps but getting dips near 30. Locked the fps to 30 and it has been rock solid. Not too bad. Loving this game BTW

AMD 1055T @3.4 GHz
MSI R9 280 3gb
8 GB ram

All max settings at 1080o except shadows on high, motion blur off and textures at high, game runs at constant 60 fps. I played till introduction of nemesis system and then ran around in open world. Not ONE frame was dropped. Not even during the opening rain fight.

Watched a stream of someone playing, asked him to go into options and his resolutions he could select were weird. Guy said he had a 8:5 monitor and that his resolution wasn't among the available and that the game went by a percentage scale. Is it like that for everyone or are 16:9 users okay?

Specs:

780 Ti 3GB SLI
i7-4770k @ 4.5 Ghz
16 GB RAM @ 1600 Mhz

Everything maxed out (including AO) at 1080p, except for textures which are set to high. V-sync off. The benchmark ran buttery smooth, and there were no drops below 60 that I noticed (the min FPS occurred during the load in).

I've got the HD textures installed, but I'm going to wait for an SLI profile before I try them out.

I'm just now getting the chance to actually play the game, so I'll update my post if I have any performance issues in game.

Edit: Alright, played the first half hour, but I'm tired as hell, so I'll have to call it a night. I'm very happy with the performance so far. I'm forcing adaptive v-sync through the NVIDIA control panel and I don't think I noticed the frame rate dropped below 60 a single time. I'm going to try out Ultra textures once an official SLI profile is released, but in the mean time I don't think I'm missing out on much. The game looks fine to me for the most part.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 880M 256bit w/8.0GB GDDR5
8GB (1x8GB) DDR3L/1600 Memory
Intel® Core™ i7-4810MQ (2.8~3.8GHz)

Playing with Ultra textures and everything else at High settings at 1080.

Game hovers around 50FPS for gameplay, sometimes a bit less, sometimes more. Rarely dips below 45.

Decent performance. Might try lowering motion blur as others have suggested. I turned off the alpha blending for hair and other stuff and that's an easy 10% performance gain which was nice.

Should I be using the game's Vsync or should I force adaptive Vsync in the Nvidia control panel? I think the game's Vsync might be screwing up performance, I keep getting weird dips when my settings are already turned down and everything should be running fine.

And is there any known way to get AA (other than FXAA) other than turning the resolution up in the advanced options menu?

I'm using adaptive v-sync and the game runs pretty much flawlessly so far. I haven't tried the in game v-sync though, so I couldn't comment on whether or not that's causing your performance issues.

Yeah they are, but you get used to them. I'm also using a gamepad, but the slo mo aiming with the bow makes it pretty easy to get headshots.

V-sync = set it off, but change it from fullscreen to borderless window - smooths it out.

I found that vsyncing in borderless then back to full while in the actual game running around and what not fixed my stutter issue in full.
