Rep, my wife and I are staying at Oaks on Market
Nice! I booked a spot right at Docklands that wasn't too expensive yet nice enough that it seems fancy for a weekend away. Wanted to be within walking distance, we are pretty scared of the whole big city thing heh.

Damn near everything is sold out on the Saturday night though! Glad I didn't leave it any later.

It's all good, I'm glad we teamed up cause I wouldn't have been able to do it. Destiny kills my internet SO much as well. As in flat out drops the entire internet. I don't know what the hell is wrong. Sigh. It might be my modem but I don't know, it's annoying.
Heh thanks for tonight too!

Same with Hamchan again! Had to run off for parenting duties afterwards >.>

What's good out there?

I know this is an uninteresting subject for most, but if anyone here had some strong opinions on the topic of phone OSs, I'd love to hear them.
1+ 1 seems like the best overall choice if you want a fairly large phone. Otherwise the Galaxy/Note series is solid, same with Nexus 5 (although possibly new phone out soon?).
Although seems most manufacturers have great phones now. Sony and LG both have winners going around.

Won't help with the 1+ 1 since you have to import it but it would probably be a great idea to have a hold/play with some phones! Telstra should have Galaxy/Note, LG G3, Xperia Z3 to get a feel for in-store.

Yeah Marriott charging for internet is complete bullshit. Drives me nuts that they think that's OK. Thankfully you get it free if you join up with their free rewards program.

CAN YOU GUYS PLEASE CONVINCE ME TO JUST DRAW SIMPLE THREE PANEL COMICS FROM NOW ON THIS 2 PAGE COMIC ABOUT POLE POSITION IS KILLING ME AGH

yeah, but the worse thing was, I had stayed at the next closest marriot 12 months earlier and the internet was free.

You should draw three panel ones with a punchline. Otherwise the longer ones have more feels.

I am on the phone with Telstra. I have been for an hour.

That looks nice, but what do the numbers mean? If my current iPhone 4S is a farmer with a shotgun, the iPhone 6 and Galaxy Note 4 are...?

Interesting. Is there an easy way to transfer my stuff (contacts, app preferences) from my 4S to an Android phone?

No I just mean the apps for those categories are crossplatform. For podcasts I use the excellent aussie app Pocketcasts and it syncs its sub data between ios and android. Youtube

I don't understand. Does iOS artificially throttle RAM for apps or something?

Its low amount of ram (even the latest only just got to 1gb compared to my several year old nexus 4 having 2gb) makes multitab browsing or opening large web pages (like big forum pages) poorer ime due to reloading pages when you switch tabs for instance.

yeah, it was more complicated than that since the credit people where involved. cleared up now though.

10 or so years ago, when I lived with my folks, we moved all the Telstra stuff to one account under my name so we could get a discount they offered at the time. Then i moved out and there was an overlap while the account were shifted back to my parents name. They moved a few years ago and didn't take care of the ending their Telstra account properly, OR Telstra fucked up somewhere along the way (who the fuck knows). So Telstra wanted that mysterious $80 bill paid before they released my new phone (Their system flagged this on the 21st and no one from telstra had bothered to contact me to tell me there was an issue). They hadn't linked me to this charge before now but I'm kinda stuck with it paying for the time being since I don't need blips on my credit history.

Hey Gaz, draw good comic things well. K.

I'm getting married in a few days, advice? Also, heading to Melbourne for our honeymoon, staying in the CBD. We have a pretty full itinerary, but if you locals have any cool must see places to go and things to do, please let me know.

When I get back, I'll have Borderlands the Pre-Sequel to play. I've come to the realisation that BL2 is on my list of best games evvvvaaaaaa!! Anyone else have Jazz hands for a new Borderlands? I have raging Jazz hands for it. JAZZ HANDS.

Congrats! Just relax and go with the flow, try and keep the fiance calm!

Zero interest in Borderlands 2.5. Even if it was on current gen I would probably pass it up. Hopeing the Vita version of B2 draws me into it, just can't find something to draw me in.

Huh, already spent 44 hours on Destiny! Didn't think I had played that much, haven't even touched PvP or the raid yet lol

Considering I only paid $45 for it ($15 free credit voucher from DSE stuffup) that's a pretty good $1/hour ratio.

EDIT: Go to the Aquarium! It's great! Also the penguins have little kid penguins and are currently sitting on eggs!

What type of things are you looking to do in Melbourne? How long are you here for?
Restaurants? Sites? Pubs? Have a car or only local transport?

5 nights, if you can think of any must do's that would be great. Good eating places and pubs would be good. We are staying in the CBD, public transport all the way.

My advice would be to try to fit it all into one day if you can.

I see what you did there.

That is now on the list, you had me at penguins.

There are these iventurecards which give you access to the Melbourne tourist attractions at discounted prices. I would recommend it if you are going to do a few things, such as the aquarium. You can check online for the full list.

Food, depends on your budget and what kind of food. Some good tasting menus around that can be cheap or expensive. I went to Brooks a few weeks ago and it was delicious.

Lots of great pubs on Gertrude street, with a lot of unique beers on tap.

I've only been here for a few months though, but I try to be as touristy as possible and am out most days.

What days exactly? Might be a festival or two on as well.

Anyone had much luck/experience applying for Government roles? Is it still who you know?

A resumé (four to six pages) including details about your responsibilities, outcomes and achievements of current and previous roles

Oh fuck me, who seriously has a 6 page resume.

aldimobile is really shitting me lately. someone recommend me a good prepaid thing. i'm a bit heavier on data use, but would really prefer something in the $20-30 range. even just a list of providers that i may not know other than optus, telstra, aldimobile and amaysim would be good.

I use yatango. I think my referral code gives a free trial or a discount if you want to try it.

Oh fuck me, who seriously has a 6 page resume.

That's a lot - can't believe they're asking for that much in CV.

In the cover letter, make sure you've taken note of all they key responsibilities & requirements, and build the letter around them, giving at least one, ideally two, examples of where you meet the requirement and how TOTALLY FUCKING AMAZEBALLS, YAH? you were at them.

If the interview is anything like the one I had, it'll be based on questions about those core competencies as well - you'll be expected to demonstrate knowledge and experience, and will most likely be scored based on a set of answers they're looking for. It sounds restrictive, but it's pretty commonplace in govt roles globally - it does render the interview process a lot fairer, and it means your genuinely tested at the interview.

I didn't actually get my job - came 2nd by 'less than 10 points' and also found out that I scored the maximum points for 2 of the questions, which is probably the best post-interview feedback I've ever had.

Don't know if that helps at all...

AH! Found it - use this method for applying and in the interview:

How do I get my cat to leave my couch alone and stick to the cat treei bought?

I can't blame him. The couch is so cushy. But it's new and it's fabric so I don't want his fur and him scratching it.

I'm thinking cat nip spray on the tree and some anti cat spray on the couch?

Also I think my cats a bit to big for the tree... They must have used midget cats on the promo photos.

VIRGIN MOBILE - Bonus PS4 for First 100 Pre-Orders of Sony Xperia Z3 (Online Only)
4gb data.

Looks like a good deal.

Is anyone with Virgin? Are they any good?

I would rather stick with Vodafone to be honest, but they dont seem to be having any good deals and no mention of the z3 on their website.

Damn, I should have held out a week before getting a new phone - not sure how Virgin are, even if the network wasn't great, would have been worth it for a free PS4...

Thanks for your reply. Yeah will try and be as amazeballs as possible. I just hate all the hoop jumping, just look at my resume and be done with it.

Heya guys and gals.

I drew a comic that was meant to be about Pole Position, but it's really about my father and I trying to connect over video games.

This was a tough one to make. I hope you like it.

I'm pretty sure my mum thinks I'm giving up playing video games when I get married. HAH.

I wouldn't be marrying my fiancée if she didn't understand why I like playing video games so much.

Nice work! My parents bought our first PSOne with Colin McRae Rally and I attempted to bond with my Dad through it. Didn't really work lol

Hoping Driveclub might be a hit with him later this month! Leaving my PS4
and child
with the parents during PAX so hopefully he gets into it. The lack of wheel support could be a killer though :(

When I was younger I really wanted Theme Park World for the playstation, and the next day my dad bought me - the only time he's ever spur of the moment bought me a game - Theme Park. At the time I was disappointed, and I'm embarrased to say I don't think I ever apologised/thanked my dad for accidentally buying me a really awesome game instead of the really shit game I thought I wanted. I should do that.

Nice work, Gaz. I remember trying to connect with my Dad over games, too. I always thought that driving games would be the best bet because, well, stupid reasons like "my Dad can drive" and it's not "that weird fantasy crap."

My Dad never had much patience for games and couldn't really play them and ultimately lead to disappointment, probably from both sides, too. My Dad wondering why I would waste my time on them and my young mind unable to understand the different skill sets involved in actually driving and a wholly inaccurate facsimile of it.

Cam, I really, really dig your comics that recount aspects of your life. I understand they are a lot more work and why that means they don't happen as often but they additional work and emotional investment really shine through.

Ha awesome. We weren't very well off when I was a young kid either, so colour me shocked when dad turned up with a cardboard box with an Atari 2600, 2 joysticks, 2 paddles, Breakout and Combat. I was pinching myself all day in case it was a dream.

Awesome, thanks Yug!

Can't find details in the schedule though, is that up somewhere else?

EDIT: No Sony again this year? Booo! :(

My vote from thread title Gaz: PAX AU 2014 |OT| Everyone was Hotline Miami guy

Full panel schedule will be up later ... probably next week.

No Sony, but I am pretty happy that Media Molecule is making their way with their own booth this year!

Sweet, not too far off then.

I'm still not convinced Sony employ anyone who actually lives in Australia. None of their actions seem to indicate otherwise!

Media Molecule will be beastly. Love their creativity.

Seems like the big booths are the same as last year, to be expected when all the F2P peeps need to get their wares pimped hardcore to keep bringing the whales in. Hoping for some variety in the tunes pumping out of LOL/WorldOf this time.
Dick Smith having a sizable booth made me laugh lol

I expect most of my time will be spent in the indie section with Gaz/Shaneus/etc. Unless Microsoft want to give away some X1's of course.

How big are the theatres? The layout looks great on paper, nice work hopefully!
