Crowd slider is obviously so you can get a nice drive alone in the mountains and clear your head.

Holy shit! Even the fireworks cause the dashboard lighting to toggle on and off! o_O

World peace is coming y'all. I can just tell now.

Thats what I thought, but since Ive questioned some other aspects on this game I fear they would call me a hater. Nothing mind blowing there but a sense that it doesnt feel right.

Well you keep mentioning how Driveclub looks like Ridge Racer, so some people might find your statements little weird/funny. Driveclub looks to play very similarly to PGR, where as in Ridge Racer you go over 150 km/h sideways on straight line.

Anyway can't wait to download plus version, probably buy disc version later.

I can predict the packs are going to be American muscle car pack, Japanese tuner car pack and a City tracks country pack, these three packs seems a no-brainer but what am really hoping for is kinda unlikely which is a Rally Expansion Pack (rally cars & tracks)

City tracks in the country? I am confused. Or do you mean city tracks in a country?

I dont keep saying it. Actally I said just once and it was like RR without those elements such as Turbo. I said that because it was how the cars seems to react on the road, not the gameplay itself but Im probably wrong. But I dont see either much of PGR on this, Ive seen plenty of videos and I believe that none showed those good drifts.

Ive also read it was looking similar to GRID what I also dont agree... And when I say that, I say even in a positive way honestly because I hate how on GRID the car seems so slippery on the road. DC seems much more fixed on the ground.

I could be very wrong though.

I've went around and watched videos of other racers and one thing I'm noticing about DriveClub. The whole environment feels ... different. Like there is a depth to everything on the screen, especially when talking about Trees and such, and most especially the backgrounds like the mountains and massive hills. DriveClub may be the first game where the entire screen feels like you can actually go to it even though you can't. Even moreso then games where you actually can go " everywhere ".

When you turn a corner and see that massive mountain appear in the distance in one of these tracks, it reminds me of the scene in LOTR when Gandalf is running back to Gondor on his white horse and the camera has that follow cam going with the city in the background.

Everything just feels real in the game. Its mind blowing.

Just 4 more days!

I would be EXTREMELY excited for a City pack from Evolution at some point. I would love to see this engine and this lighting engine at work at night inside city streets.

Driving line is pretty terrible. I started enjoying driving games when I shut it off. You have to actually learn the track and the game becomes more than just a moving game of Simon.

I don't think it has any place in an arcade racer. It actually prevents people from being good at the game.

GT5 had it right (possibly 4?) with the suggested gear number which flashed if you where in too high of a gear.

I've got a car with auto headlights and thus interior lights, and they would never be triggered by the situation presented in that gif.

I get the idea, but the execution is odd.

Cars have ambient light sensors, which; detect when it is getting darker outside triggering the side lights/headlights to come on, or make the dashboard back-light dimmer or detect when it is getting brighter outside triggering the sidelights/headlights to turn off, or make the dashboard back-light brighter

Back in the year 2000 when GT was changing things up with offering 300 cars or whatever I thought that was a novel idea too. But really, when it is all said and done, you end up with maybe 10 cars you drive on a regular basis anyway. And it is never the 1996 Honda. Its always the supercars and the luxury sports cars and such.

So I can't see this game getting hit for its car selection. As long as the cars that are offered are distinct and drive differently then one another and have their own strengths and weaknesses, then your good to go.

I always played with the older stock cars, which you could upgrade to instane levels - which is what made that work. My favourites were an old used Impreza or Lancer (not the WRC models, but regular street models). Where possible, I'd get the cars I (used to) own.

Besides, the event system made sure you needed different class cars, so that's an argument against your comment as well.

Car selection is a big deal to a lot of people, you can't honestly deny that.

That's because it is, is it not? They've modelled everything in the landscape as far as I know so that the lighting and weather systems are incredibly realistic. No pre-rendered or 'painted on' backgrounds.

If you somehow glitched off track you could drive as far as they've created and crash into anything because its actually there.

At least this is my understanding from the way they detailed weather.

May be in simulation it matters but in arcade race game where everyone competes to win they need sports and fast cars. This game already have good number of sport and super cars in different classes and 47 more cars are coming in next 6 months which is a pretty good number because these cars are highly detailed according to developer which takes so much time to get each car into the game.

As I said, I own a car with such sensors. They behave as you describe.

They would never be triggered by the situation seen in that gif though.

Maybe its the type of car where it is sensitive? Not all car triggers are the same. Only way to know is to test many cars in the same situation in the game to see if it is something that happens all the time or for only certain cars.

But how much does it concern you?

Honestly, even if it's not a 100% accurate portrayal of the light intensity required to switch the dash light to a brighter setting (I have the same feature in my 2014 mustang gt), the mere fact that their lighting system is advanced enough for such effects to trigger that response is impressive. I'm just not certain that this game deserves the massive amount of nitpicking that it's constantly on the receiving end of.

Probably down to the car in question, I do see a lot of BMWs headlights switch on/off when they pass under a short underpass near where I work. This does seem a bit exaggerated though. And whether this would be the same for the dashboard lighting also.

Probably this.

crave....

this has nothing to do with headlights coming on or off, this is the interior ambient lighting

just like a cell phone with auto brightness, when you go out in the sun, the screen cranks up the brightness and when you go to a shade, it dims again. i guess the sensitivity is an audi thing

I think it's cool that the interior lights adjust as you exit the tunnel, but that example shown with the flare in the sky just looks strange to me. No big deal, I was just explaining to the people who seemed super impressed that it wasn't very realistic.

The lights on my car will also go on while going under a short underpass. But the light change seen in that flare/firework gif is far far less extreme.

of course selection is a big deal. im talking about the novelty of having 500 cars and all that jazz.

Simply stating that in the end you have 10 cars or so you actually drive around a majority of the time. You may have 150 in your garage, but you will not drive them all.

But who knows. I'm quickly finding out I'm a different gamer then some lol. some folk are anal as hell and are collectors and will spend 400 hours getting every single car and such like that.

For me though, I generally end up with something like.

Best Handling Car
Fastest Car
Favorite luxury car
Favorite luxury sports car
Favorite supercar
Favorite car to just drive ( usually a Shelby Cobra )
Closest Car to Reality
Online racer

Stuff like that. Which in the end, even in a game like Gran Turismo 4 and 5 , my favorite car games .. maybe ever ( driving wise ) I would have a gigantic list of cars in the garage and still gravitate toward that super fast car that is hella fun to drive down Nurburgring. I would sometimes just take a car out to drive around. But come on, you know as well as I do that when the game offers you 50 Ferarris, you end up actually buying maybe 4 of them, and only actually racing with 1-2 of them.

Speaking of ... would love to see this engine on that track.

But yes, before you say the inevitable " EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT " line, I know that already. Guess I'm speaking from a more casual gamers perspective these days who doesn't have 300 hours to collect 300+ cars and certainly doesn't care enough about each one to master them all or upgrade them all. But yeah ... even back when i did have all the time in the world I still didn't do that. So I dunno.

50 cars is smaller then some games. And actually more then other games. As I said, as long as the actual cars themselves are varied from one another and fun to drive, then thats perfect. Oh and lets not forget that everything about these cars is rendered to the smallest details. Including the specific manufacturer screws lol. Fully modeled interiors and everything. How many premium cars did GT5 have at first with the fully modeled interiors and everything?

Wouldn't want that, lol.
And yes, the effect is definitely overdone/unrealistic in its sensitivity. Should we be any less impressed for that? The car reacts to the dynamic lighting in real time to create that response. In my book, that's pretty damned impressive TBH. Is it perhaps a bit show-offish? Certainly. But it's plenty spectacular regardless.

and like i explained ^^ the interior lights lighting up is an auto ambient light settings in the new audi A5 (RS5) it has nothing to do with the auto headlights coming on when it gets dark. the fireworks gif reacted exactly as it should.

the sensitivity might be cranked to the max but it is a realistic representation

No reasonable person is going to criticize this game's car count. It takes months to model one of these things. Driveclub is a new IP. It doesn't have the luxury of being able to use old assets.

I just noticed how huge this thread already is... OMG! 2.300+ posts and the game hasn't even been released yet!

Also, confirmed I'll be getting my copy today... yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!

The reaction is a 0/1 in the code base, and I feel it's tuned in a way that makes it seem kinda silly in that gif. So no, I am not impressed by something that seems like it shouldn't be happening at all.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on that.
