HaloGAF |OT: Anniversary| So fades the great harvest of our betrayal.

SMG starts are the best option for social playlists because you can choose between dual wielding and finding another gun. It has the Halo feel with all of the "random" fun that casual Halo can provide.

BR starts are the best for ranked playlists. It has the Halo feel with all of the accuracy and precision necessary for good and "fair" competition.

Curious to know what the esports list is.

Three playlists for H2A seems like a lot, condensing those to two lists would add room for a doubles list (no H4 in doubles please).

Overall it looks good.

Yeah for Day one its pretty good. Having too much playlist variety stretches the population thin.

That being said,

Stinkles, will we get to know the gametypes within each playlist? And the settings of them? It seems Hardcore and Esports are kinda redundant

That was exactly my question.

Yeah. I was watching it with my wife and he says in this very scene, "Lets make love right here on the floor together..."

I spit out my drink and was shocked that this was part of my childhood.

^^My halo 3 vehicle kill count begs to differ. Stop whining about an 8 year old game's starting weapons, it wont' change.

Laser was the best weapon in Halo 3. Made BTB way more balanced. RIP if you disagree because you are a scrub and probably got lasered all day every day.

Valhalla without laser would kill that map for me. It was incredibly tough to take out vehicles without it. It only had 4 shots if I remember correctly.

Glad you agree with the correct answer.

You are wrong though, it had 5 shots. Some game that I forget the name of changed it to 4 shots. May have increased the cooldown time too.

Team Halo 2: Anniversary
Play a mix of Team Slayer and objective game types on re-mastered maps. 4v4.

Halo 2: Anniversary Rumble
Challenge seven other opponents on re-mastered maps. This is your fight and yours alone. 8-player Free-For-All.

Team Halo 2: Anniversary Social
Play with a team in unranked Team Slayer and objective game types on re-mastered maps. 5v5.

Team Slayer
Eliminate the enemy team across four Halo games: Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 2: Anniversary. Nothing but Team Slayer, 24/7. 4v4.

Big Team Battle
Battle it out in 16-player warfare with vehicles across Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4, and Halo 2: Anniversary. 8v8.

Halo: Combat Evolved
The game that started it all. Play a mix of Slayer and objective game types in Halo: Combat Evolved for the first time on Xbox Live. 4v4.

Halo 2 Classic
It’s back. A mix of the most popular Team Slayer and objective game types from the original Halo 2. 4v4.

Halo 3
A selection of fan-favorite Team Slayer and objective game types from Halo 3. 4v4.

Halo 4
A mix of Team Slayer and objective game types from Halo 4, on a selection of small to medium-sized maps. 5v5.

Team Hardcore
A collection of tournament-approved game types from Halo 2 and Halo 3. The Battle Rifle is your primary weapon. 4v4.

Halo eSports
The official Halo eSports playlist. 4v4.

SWAT (Rotational)
Aim for the head! A collection of SWAT game types on our favorite maps from Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4, and Halo 2: Anniversary. Players have no shields and are equipped with rifles. 4v4.

Sucks that the only FFA list is for Anniversary. It's gonna get tiring seeing the same 4, maybe 5 maps. I also think it kinda sucks that they didn't take what each game did well and put that as their game-specific playlist (ex: CE 2v2, H2 BTB, etc.). Hardcore sounds nice, but I don't see why we need both Hardcore and eSports. I also don't see the point in H2A Social. There's probably more, but I don't really want to write anymore.

Here's what I think I'll be mainly sticking to: Team H2A, Team Slayer, BTB, and Halo 3

Here's what I'm going to try out a few times when the game launches (in addition thereof): Halo: CE, Halo 2 Classic

If I somehow am able to get an Xbox in time for this game, or Halo 5 Beta, which doesn't look good :(

I don't get the point of H2A when I have 1080p(*) halo 2 at my disposal. Why are there three playlists for the smallest portion of the game? Seems like a big waste on top of a bigger waste.

It's spread out pretty well at least.
Though I'm not really too happy about having to play Halo 4 on occasion at least we should be able to play the better maps it had since everyone will have the DLC for the first time ever.

It's the newest thing to try out MM wise. And Halo 2A MM is 1080p.

Pretty sure this is the only unranked hopper though? If so that would make sense. Play the new and shiny game unranked for DEM CASUAL PEASANTS.
Yeah, I don't know. 343 / Bungie probably did some research at some point showing that people get intimidated by ranked playlists. I get that concern, and I get wanting to help those people out. But with five version of multiplayer and dozens of gametypes, I think they should try to minimize redundancy. Oh well, not a big deal.

Team HC is just Halo 2/3

We have no idea what the eSports one is.

The eSports will be whatever league picks the game up, and that will be the only hardcore playlist anyone cares about.

Too much slayer, plebs won't vote for objective when slayer is an option, so at least give objective lovers a playlist, I mean damn.

Wish we knew what kind of maps and modes would be present.

Surprisingly lacking in detail.

And Ram is correct. The general population in Halo sticks to slayer the most. It's gonna be frustrating for players who don't play in a group and even then, to choose objective.

Because it's the biggest draw for the collection.

I agree with you about the FFA and Unranked Playlists. Surely those could easily be cross-title playlists, no? I mean, who WOULDN'T want to play FFA on Turf, Backwash, High Ground or Guardian?

Why in the world are there two MLG playlists? No Team Flag across all games? Not enough facepalms in the world.

A few things:

-Hardcore includes 3 games, which will most likely be MLG related. We can dig back into our competitive past. *thumbs up*
-E-Sports hopper will probably be whatever game/s and gametype/s that are currently being played in tournaments. So if they play H2:A exclusively, pretty sure that's what the e-sports hopper will be. Current Pros will live here.
-Team flag is included in Objective. Doubt that everyone wants to run CTF exclusively?
-Don't facepalm quite yet...plus your hand is smelly and unsanitary.

Cuz it isn't the same as base halo 2, it has things from the other games and new stuff:

No BXR/BXB/etc
New interactive elements and trick jump areas
Assault rifle from halo 1
Silenced SMG from Halo ODST
Seems like a stronger, rebalanced Sentinel Beam
Gun Mongoose (new vehicle)
Hornet aircraft from Halo 3
Speed Up power up

Did I miss anything else we know yet?

Hey Frankie, what is the post-launch support going to be like? I see we have a roatational playlist, but how locked-in are you guys to these lists? Will there be major changes based on popularity? Can we expect mergers/deletions/additions? This is a really good looking starting point, but I'm hoping you guys aren't anchored on these choices.

I'm excited as hell for H2A multiplayer. The CEA Reach, MLG, and Team Throwdown playlists have shown me that I can be happy with just a few good maps as long as I like the settings. I'll gravitate towards whatever game feels best to me, and right now it seems like it'll be H2A.

Answer:
If a rotational proves hugely popular it will be considered for more permanent status. The footprint of the game and the population drive this.

If they are going to include Speedboost, at least make it increase movement acceleration and not just movement speed. Speedboost should make my strafe ridiculously fast and crisp...pretty much the opposite of the standard H2A strafe.

New health system was best new thing in Reach. BTB became fun to play without friends, because vehicles weren't very hard to take down on your own.
Don't kill me
They need a way to regenerate in someway or else they are useless pieces of paper the second they catch fire.

There can be improvements over 2/3 but Reach and 4's vehicle system was not the answer.

Ok then my next question. Why are you pretending SWAT isn't popular? Make that a playlist and get on to the next gametype in the rotation. SWAT is in the top 3 playlists based on halo 4 population sizes.

I had to post this here from the other thread:

Thank you Stinkles and everyone else at 343...no other FPS matters come this November, for probably the next console generation. I mean seriously...what's the point after having Halo CE finally playable on Xbox Live and a dedicated Halo esports playlist...mother of god indeed.

  • Halo: Combat Evolved
The game that started it all. Play a mix of Slayer and objective game types in Halo: Combat Evolved for the first time on Xbox Live. 4v4.
  • Halo eSports
The official Halo eSports playlist. 4v4.

Do we know who at 343 will be in charge of playlist management?

Also, I saw this idea on the gaming side thread and thought it was really good:

I'd still like an "I'd play anything" choice that just puts you in the playlist that needs players at that particular moment.

If you had that kind of option and enough people who'd choose it - then you could have more playlists for each game as people would be auto assigned to the more obscure game types to keep population levels up.

SWAT is a day one playlist.

EDIT: It's rotational, but it's there on day one.
