How does that benefit my gaming experience?

Put simply, in a dual card set up, for example, both cards are given the same scene or frame to render, but the driver sends half of the frame to the master card and the other half to the slave card. The master card renders its share of the frame while the slave or second card renders the other half. When the slave card is done it sends its buffer to the master card and the master card consolidates the two pieces before finally outputting the buffer to the screen.

There is two ways that SLI works.

One is called split frame rendering - this is where the frame it split horizontally in half, which splits the workload 50/50 for each card. It intelligently splits the workload based on the geometry of the frame, for example if there is little to render on the top half (e.g. sky) and a lot on the bottom (smoke, debris, ground textures) the dividing line will move to balance the workload between each card. Split frame rendering is pretty poor at scaling the work when compared against alternate frame rendering (below).

The second is called alternate frame rendering. Each card renders full frames, but in sequential order, for example the master card might process even frames (2,4,6) while the slave card processes odd frames (3,5,7). When the slave card finishes work on a frame the results are sent to the master card, usually via the SLI bride (as described above). Theoretically this should result in the rendering time being cut in half, which should technically linearly scale the performance by double. This is not often the case in practice though, depending on drivers, games, etc.

Ok I just finished Assassin's Creed III (100%ed the side activities) and I just have The Walking Dead epilogue to play and I will be good on that front too.
Now the hard part, choosing the next games, halp.
I always thought about playing Murdered Soul Suspect after these, but I think I'm going mad, I could see myself playing Assassin's Creed - Liberation. Look short enough to not feel like an AC overload.

Then there is always the possibility to choose between Mordor, Ethan Carter, Gauntlet or Wolfenstein. Urgh :-S

Edit - Why stop there, I could buy and play of Orcs and Men or Styx too. I'm fucked.

Hey if you guys don't want free games, I'll just give them to the people over at CS:GO GAF then next time.. But knowing them... They'll probably fence them to fuel their gambling addiction..
I'm kidding.. But no not really. We all have a gambling addiction over there.

Hey, that's fine by me. :D

but no seriously, I should already be eligible for the pay-it-forward rule and also I don't seem to have spare keys that aren't Origin or Desura garbage, so I should be fine anyway :p

Ryse looks nice but I think I can wait on.

Especially since I blew my personal spending freeze on records yesterday. He had an original pressing White Light/White Heat, so it's not my fault.

For a palate cleanser, go for Wolfenstein :)

I say you should play either Murdered Soul Suspect, Ethan Carter or Wolfensrein. Why? Because those 3 games are going to be vastly different to the gameplay of AssCreed III. I always like to play a game that is different from what I just finished to give it that sense of freshness. Like after finishing BioShock Infinite. A 1st person shooter, I played Tomb Raider a 3rd person survival game. And before that? I finished Valiant Hearts, a side scrolling puzzle/narative game.

Edit: Styx or Orcs and Men would be good choices as well.

I just wanna share this short horror story with you guys, Lol I found it on reddit.

As I was tucking my son into bed last night, he said to me “Daddy, what kind of man are you?” The question caught me off guard. “What do you mean?” I asked. “I mean what kind of letter-man are you?” This made me even more confused. Letter-man? What could he be talking about? “I don’t know, buddy, what sort of letter-man are you?" ”Well, I thought I was a U-man, but the man outside the church kept pointing at me and saying I was an O-man. Mommy said he was crazy, but he just looked scared to me” I was starting to see what he was getting at, but I still wasn’t sure how to answer. Finally my son got impatient “So come on daddy, tell me already! Are you a U-man like me, or are you a D-man like the one on the ceiling?”

This was one of the comments, it had me rolling with laughter Lol
"Actually son, Daddy's an ass man. Don't tell Mommy."

I accidentally read this as "fucking my son into bed" every time, even though I know it says "tucking".

I've run it maxed out at a nigh-locked 60 on a GTX 780 - Slightly overclocked, but not by much. Really the biggest bottleneck you can have is on the CPU side of things, it's really damn CPU intensive because of the 200+ zombies.
Mah CPU is an i7-3770k. 16 gigs of RAM.

Ah, well that's good. I'm using a i7-3770k, 16GB RAM, 980 SC. I was just afraid of the game being a crashing mess, regardless of the build. :x

Trust me dude, I did the same damn thing the first time I read it. Lol

You can't go trick or treating and can't ogle high schoolers, so some of the magic is gone.
Bug you can go ogle those college girls. Fuck that, I'm still going to go trick or treating. Primarily because I still have a younger brother.

Ryse is around 20$ here. Been hearing bad things about this game. Can anyone provide a good counterbalance to the bad perceptions circling it? It looks nice.

I posted my more positive impressions here. It's definitely a simple, repetitive brawler, but the diversity of locations, sheer technical brilliance, and the surprisingly good acting were enough to keep me engaged throughout the short length. Easily worth the 20 bones from my point of view.

I pretty much agree with everything ricochetguro says. I think it's a great game to just turn your brain off, sit back and enjoy. I do hope for a sequel with a bit more fleshed out combat.

That crystal-lake area in FFXIII ist incredibly beautiful.
I wish someone had told me that all the fights before that were pretty much useless...ah well, didn't take too much time.

It was a joke. I hope you got that. :(
Yes I did <3 don't worry.

You know I was of half a mind to finally play Dragon Age 2. Then I saw that I would have to buy 24€ worth of DLC.
Let me stop you right there. Don't. Its not that good. If you truly wanna play it go play it on a console. You can find a cheap copy in any video games store. GameStop for example under $5.

That sounds sinister, what are you planning?
Take all the candies of course. Well... Only the chocolate ones.

£27.84 for both Alien Isolation and it's first bit of dlc - that ain't too bad. Thanks GMG

I paid just a little under £28 on Amazon and got a swanky Stellbook too. Saying that I also spend 17 quid on the artbook as well but that's my weird hobby.

Took me 6 hours to get there and 6 hours to do that level alone. Granted I'm like a tourist with a stack of cameras but I've started to play the game now.

Please get it :)

I second that because I actually went and did exactly that yesterday after having a hard time deciding if I wanted to play it at all before Inquisition. My release PC version is borked since Origin won't sell me any DLC for the points I already have and I can't even download the extra stuff I should have from my Collector's Edition. Weak as I am I bought the whole thing on the PS3 sale since it was cheap and it's... better with a controller :O

And it's actually a bit fun too... now when I know what to expect. I hated it at release for not being Origins 2.

Cleaning out the garbage..!
Calling Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten garbage makes me sad :(

Hi wilflare.
I assume you want to use the SPDIF Out (fiber optic) of the card?
I have a Creative Recon3d (the previous gen of yours) and you need to activate Dolby Digital Live or the equivalent of THX though the Creative Software, this will make the Digital Out unavailable for software to use because you are re-encode everything to 5.1/7.1 or whatever on the fly.

thanks for the reply.

hmm. I'm actually using the headphone out.
so i'm kinda confused what exactly am I supposed to do to get the sound card to process the surround sound (within games/movies/anime) with the SBX Pro (virtual surround tech) to my headphones

Any accountants in steamgaf? Might want to go back to school to get an accounting certificate (have a bachelor's in business, if that means jack). I've been unemployed for two years, and I rarely get callbacks for entry-level admin positions. I just want to not die at 30.
