Playstation TV Thread: Vita Who?

Some of these omissions are really weird too. Like Hot Shots Golf. Why can't you play Hot Shots Golf? You can use that whole game with the controller.

I've tried mine hooked up on a 42 and 60 inch plasma. The UI looks pretty jaggy on both. I had bad remote play lag on wireless from one room away from my router/ps4. I plugged it up the the ethernet right beside the PS4 and it was still kind of laggy. Non-remote play games look okay but I'm not sure if this will be a worthwhile purchase for me. It's super limited and the drawbacks, such as the more limited library, don't necessarily exceed the positives.

I'm leaning toward returning mine right now.

Thank you. Was considering it for remote play but I guess I will just have to keep moving my PS4 in the room I play in for now. :(

anyway to get rid of that second tab(the one that shows games kinda like a psn store page)(i'm out at the moment but i saw that and wish i could remove it as it makes going through pages a nuisance) otherwise i like it, only because i'm using it for the games i know work on it ... which is basically monster hun clone types(Which are better to me than actual monster hunter) and rpgs which work fine on here.. remote play is a plus since i'll use it to play fibbage at other people's houses since i dont think lag wont affect that game one bit.

Thanks for the idea, I am so going to try it when I visit home just to see...
Edit: I really did not to buy a Fire TV for just Fibbage.

I'm now downloading my hundreds of games to confirm any more title that isn't on the official list.
Cool, I really hope there are some games that work despite not being listed. According to some, Suikoden works so I do not doubt there are a few that work despite not being listed.

Wow, there is barely a single positive impression here on this thing. Totally passing until Sony decides to get their shit together with this thing. I would hate to buy it and Sony decide to ignore it even more than the Vita.

Did you try disabling direct connect in your ps4?

I tried direct connect and via my router, which is top of the line. Both were relatively laggy. This may not be the case for everyone but I was kind of disappointed. To echo another poster, it did seem worse than on the Vita, but I couldn't provide a quantitative assessment. That part could just be my perception of it.

My excitement for the PS TV has fluctuated since the announcement but I'm a little disappointed now that it's finally in my hands. It's essentially worthless as a media streaming device and has some serious drawbacks as a gaming device. With the way Sony treats the Vita brand, and their somewhat slow response to everything the last few months, I'm not sure I trust them to provide the updates and improvements this product needs.

i was just stating that to me, remote play is something like a "ooh shiny feature i didnt know was in the box" but i could care less about it, since i really only wanted a vita on TV thing and i have my vita to play those exclusive touch games... which to be honest had some bad touch interface with them(not sure about uncharted or gravity rush(or whatevr its called... i have it and havent really touched it.... bad pun) now if nintendo would release that device that could show a 3ds/ds for tv... i'd buy that too and be done(i know they had one for the DS as some nintendo rep used it back when gamestop and nintendo did those dragon quest 9 quest givaways back in the day) .... boy i talk way too much

Trying remote play on a Vita, and yeah. The image quality will dip in order to have relatively good response time. The Playstation TV is the opposite.

Also in case you're wondering, the apps in the app section are these:

Crunchyroll

Crackle

LiveTweet

Playstation NOW Open Beta

Qello HD Concerts

and... That's it?

WOW

I'm updating mine now. I'll try some remote play in a bit (wired connection) and post a quick impression.

It pretty much blows that it recommends "wired" connection. Doesn't the Vita do remote play without wired connection? Who the hell wants wires from room to room?

Same here.
I never really saw PS TV as a replacement for the Vita. I just saw it as a way to play some of the games on a big TV in HD. The streaming and apps are just a bonus to me.
I also think it is silly to make an "ultimate judgement" the day it comes out. Xbox One took like a year to get a good interface.

Wow - there are DEFINITELY going to be updates today to allow more games to play on it. Know how I can tell? The Lego Movie game doesn't work! ....the one that comes with the Playstation TV bundle...

Wow, really?
I hope YS gets a patch today as well with Rayman Legends in the future!
Edit: Going to the page says "some games require a patch to work on PS TV" so there is a chance.

When I think about it, being able to play PSP games on the big screen is more intriguing than the Vita games because I have the console versions of a lot of my Vita games.

Bundling Lego is kind of terrible. It's obvious SCEA is marketing this toward family and kids than gamers, which I think is stupid.
Indeed, I have the Capcom PSP games and apparently they work on PS TV. The PSP TV connection was hot garbage, so I am hoping PS TV is better.

I would've gotten the bundle if it was a better game.

you know how that bundle could have worked? ... minecraft but SCEA gonna SCEA.

For real?
That's pretty pathetic.

I know Xseed mentioned pushing out some patches for the games they've brought over, but not today. I think it was this week for Senran Kagura and "looking into it" for Ys: Memories of Celcetta.

Lol the janitorial team they put in charge of launching this is learning the growing pains of promotion in real time

Anyone try PSP title "Brave Story" and see it if downloads to it? It said it was compatible on it. (known not to work on Vita)

Also I want to buy a Black PSVITA tv but for like ~$50. Im hoping this things bombs just to buy a cheap one.

But there are seemingly barely any quality exclusive Vita titles that work. Persona 4, The Dangnabbitronpaul Series, and eehhhuuh..

And there are barely any video apps, or music apps, or anything that makes it even mediocre when compared to other $100 media boxes. It's laughable.

I don't know where Sony is going to go from here. If it sells as poorly here as it did in Japan, I'm guessing it'll be buried.

The least they could do is add an "unsupported" option that just lets you use all Vita games (with a warning.)

I'm internally debating whether or not to get this just as a Persona 4: Golden machine. Maybe look into some other Vita/PSP games I overlooked. I owned a PSP several years ago, but missed out on a lot of good games.

I'm guessing the mon hun clones dont count? if its not your cup of tea thats fine, but we get that Ragnarok ace game(although it is on ps3) Freedom wars at the end of the month, Toukiden(kiwami comes out early next year) and Soul sacrifice Delta all of which are fun. But this is all assuming if you even like that genre of games... Now this may or may not have been mentioned, but i assume the PStv cant Adhoc or whatever its called to play games locally ?

I guess Lego Movie does have an update which makes it work, I just didn't know how to update games - it doesn't automatically look for updates when you run the game, you have to click on an unlabeled icon above the game. Of course, it still isn't a perfect patch, the tutorial tells you how to play using the touchscreen, I had to guess myself how to do the special attack (I clicked in the right stick),

LoL how the bundled game doesn't even work!

Even if it can be patched, it says a lot on how much commitment SCEA is going with this!

I have a feeling Sony is using this as a cheap entry for PSNow. BTW, mine should be waiting for me at home, but I'll mainly be using it as remote play in the bedroom since I already have a Vita.

It's great for those who don't have a Vita yet want to play games like Persona 4 G and Ys MoC.

I know I don't need it, BUT I'll probably still get it. Impulse buyer. :(

Really curious if you could use the remote play "remotely" and not just on the same Wifi as the PS4 (like the Vita). If I could grab this and take it on vacation to have access to my ps4 its a definite purchase.

Ys doesn't work on it.
Really? I thought I read it did but didn't look great in one of the articles.

Still good for the other games assuming one doesn't have a Vita and the console versions of the ports.

It's a no brainer to those who don't have a PSP. I wish Crisis Core and KHBbS had digital versions.

Yes, this is doable. I remote play across the Internet all the time. This works the same way.

The Japanese version of Ys: Memories of Celceta works, but the US version hasn't been patched yet (but then, today's PSN drops haven't happened yet, maybe we'll get lucky). The PSP Ys games of course work just fine, though PSP games sure look pixelated on a 40" TV :)

Throwing this out there.

My router is in a different room from my PS4.

I have a pair of these and they seem to work surprisingly well, though just note distance does seem to affect speed (and maybe age of house, who knows).

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AWRUICG/?tag=neogaf0e-20

But for $40 USD, I'd give them a shot.

oh. I remember that product. I once used it a few years ago to reach a bedroom where router was too far away. Works really nicely. I'll have to rebuy this (or see if my parents, who have it now, still have it)

The Ys PSP games already look pixelated! I'd imagine it will be a lot worse on a big tv!
