How do you know it didn't? With companies so protective of digital sales it is hard to get a clear picture on software sales nowadays. Suffice to say Destiny sold a lot on both platforms.

I'm referring to retail standalone. Should have said that.

They track them so publishers/shareholders have relatively accurate numbers to go off of. There's no need to have a third party track digital numbers when they know exactly what they're selling.

It says software sales dropped by 35%, is that taking digital sales into consideration? If so that's pretty bad.

Destiny doesn't really surprise me, made by Bungie so they had alot of the Halo audience from the beginning.

Bundles for PS4 had to be huge though, 60% of people at the midnight release of Destiny at my local gamestop all got the bundle instead.

I think MS should fear the Madden numbers the most. XB1 is dead last out of all the SKUs when Madden has always been a huge Xbox game. Was the Madden bundle still on sale during September?

Wow, MS not even attempting to spin, just not saying anything at all. Must be pretty disappointing month relative to Sony.

Pretty amazing hardware numbers otherwise and Destiny, too. Wonder about that drop in software sales in September for an industry whose foundation for health is in software sales starting in September...

Maybe someone will leak the missing numbers soon.

The shine is really going to leave when it's mostly digital, eh? For software sales anyway. We'll have to use some other metric.

It feels so good, man. That slow transition from glass cannon to adamantium buzzsaw is EVERYTHING.

I am very happy for Monolith. They deserve all the sales.
I was teetering between The Evil Within and Mordor, but becoming death has sold me. GAF impressions are good too from what I'm reading. Batman in Middle Earth, why the hell not?

"Worldwide"
PS4 Destiny is ahead in this particular market too, if you include everything.

I'm pretty sure it's still on sale even now.

Amazing Destiny performance on XB1. Amazing PS4 sales. The fact Destiny bundles don't count is irrelevant, it sold more to the current base, that's big news and not something I though possible.
Not necessarily. Anyone who bought an Xbone to play Destiny got counted in NPD since there was no bundle for Xbone. The many that bought a PS4 to play Destiny, most likely bought the bundle, which wasn't counted in the numbers.

Also, Bungie was the face of Xbox. Destiny was always going to sell well on Xbox. However, it ended up boosting Sony more than MS. Which is impressive since MS tried doing something similar with FFXIII, yet it still sold better on PlayStation.

This is a sad day for America

America shot themselves in the foot. Microsoft can kiss their business goodbye.

But honestly, Sony had better hardware at a better price point going into this generation. The turn around is no surprise.

Microsoft PR:

“We believe this will be one of our biggest holiday seasons ever. We’re offering great Xbox One bundles aligned with the most anticipated game launches of the year, including ‘Assassin’s Creed Unity,’ ‘Sunset Overdrive’ and ‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare,’ and incredible deals for fans. Combined with blockbusters like ‘Halo: The Master Chief Collection,’ ‘Grand Theft Auto 5,’ ‘Destiny’ and ‘Forza Horizon 2,’ we are committed to making Xbox One a great place to play this holiday.”

LOL

No comment on the September result?

The main issue for MS is that the 360 still has such a big install base, and a lot of people that did upgrade, went to PS4.

I actually think this holiday is going to be good for the XBone, but MS needs to offer some deals to get back in this.

A Microsoft spokesperson:

It's not pre-season anymore :p

He acknowledges that his team is building its momentum against a Sony that currently is rolling forward. "They beat us in June. They beat us in May," Spencer says. "These months are small if you look at the sales. I think the whole month of June is about one week in November. They're winning, and they'll do their PR around it, and that makes sense. The battle is really September, October, November, and December."

Wowsers I was was way off on PS4. Shouldn't have revised down at last minute from my initial 446K and even that undershoots "nearly triple" August.

Slightly undershot Wii U too, but on the money on 3DS.

Are those all the HW numbers we have so far? And is there a Destiny number?

As great as smash numbers are still pretty damn bad for 3DS hw. They really should have launched N3DS in US too this year. Holiday season is going to be ugly.

I totally agree, Nintendo really should have had the n3DS ready this December in North America, big missed opportunity.

Honestly, Nintendo of America should have eaten a chunk of the old 3DS inventory in the channel in agreements with retailers to guarantee like orders of NEW 3ds. I mean, what's the point of having old product wasting in retail channels, that clearly isn't selling like it needs to.

They could jumpstart 3ds sales with the New 3DS, and help retailers sell off the old ones by allowing them to heavily discount without having to take it on the chin as hard. It would be a great way to get buy in from retailers and more ad space heading in to Christmas.

I really don't know how Nintendo still has so much unsold inventory. They have barely shipped 1.4 million 3DSs worldwide trough first two quarters this year. They really did stuff the channels last christmas it seems.

Is there any way to know how many Destiny bundles sold? I'm curious to know if Destiny sold more on Xbox One period, or if Destiny sold a lot of bundles - which don't factor into NPD software numbers - and that is why Xbox One is listed first.
