One thing that annoys me is they said, we couldn't offer the main hub so seamlessly split across two disks which is insulting. Yes you could, it's called an install disk which shock horror you've done before. It comes off as the same BS they got dragged across the coals for at launch.

At least have a good honest reason. Being that two faced is a reason people despise you. It might not be 343, it could be bean counters or big wigs above them forcing the bad decision but it's bad whoever. Nothing else matters, the game being stupidly good value, a thank you to fans, best collection ever etc. Just acknowledge it's wrong and don't defend it. Enjoy the game.

Isn't the reason this update is coming as a download because they are still working on the game after it went gold?

Nice post. The part in bold is honestly my biggest problem, couple that with the amount of people defending the descion and the cavalier attitude they have and it seems like we learned nothing from the original DRM fiasco. I find that very upsetting as somebody who is extremely pro-consumer.

This does nothing positive for the consumer in any way shape or form. It also shows me that when forced to make a decision between consumer rights and company profits MS will choose profit every time. Isn't this why so many of us were mad at them to begin with back in 2013?

You spill all this bile but yet you say you own an Xbox one. You an pro consumer person owning what according to you is the most anti consumer product on the market.

There are two explanations for this and both of them make you look extremely bad. Either you are lying through your teeth or you are being a ........

"Get better internet" posts seem reminiscent of those times.

I don't condone that stuff, but this is still some of the best fan service (for me at least) that I've seen in a long, long time.

Sure this is a big inconvenience and it sucks, I don't doubt that and I'm not going to tell people it "isn't a big deal".

But I think people will find a way to play and it'll be worth it for the years and years of value you are getting.

The way I see it is, they are launching a platform, not just a game, it's massive, and it's one of the biggest game I've seen so far in terms of data.

Can't blame them for having SOME stipulations with a package this big.

But saying this is as bad as the DRM fiasco? Please. These people are pouring their hearts into this. They are literally giving the fans EVERYTHING we could have wanted and MORE. I think people need to take a step back, breathe, go outside, then come back and realize while it does suck, it's not a conspiracy theory to make more money and screw consumers.

I just pre-ordered on Amazon. I may just end up cancelling that and preloading on Xbox Live. Hopefully that includes the 20GB patch.
It does!

I have to question in the day and age of steam, digital downloads, HD movies on demand streaming and preloading from a digital marketplace on 2 of the major consoles how much this actually matters.

If you are buying it digitally it's already a 45gb download.

I can't imagine this will actual be much of a concern outside of the vocal minority.

Hell God help you guys if you decide to play an MMO

People who don’t agree with me = people who defend 343 and are anti-consumer.
People who agree with me = only people with valid opinions and are pro-consumer.

How about you get off your high horse, and understand that for some it isn’t an issue and for others it is. Stop trying to use childlike black and white logic to push your obvious reason to drive-by post and somehow act like you’re defending everybody’s rights.

Great. This is the Dead Rising 3 patch fiasco all over again. This is a "day two" patch for me because my DSL speeds are at 1.9 MB, it'll take me two days of downloading before I can play the fucking game. Thanks MS.

It does!

This is a better way of saying what I was trying to say (and I'd like to apologize, I was being inflammatory.) I can see why this would be a big deal to some people, but I think it's being made into something it's not.

Nice to see someone agrees with me (and users who can also apologize :p)

Definitely.

If caps have kept people away from MMOs then I guess there is something good that can be said about caps.

Lmao. Good point. Would have saved me a lot of wasted time :p

Do I win a prize for talking about my penis on the Internet???
That'll take me an hour or two to download. This game is not skimping on content, I love it. I much prefer just having one disc w/ extra content on the hard drive versus two discs anyway.

They clearly couldn't fit 4 massive games including individual multiplayers on one blu-ray disc.

Totally understandable.

Instead of offering 2 discs, they went the download route because either option was going to be installed to your console anyway.

I don't see this as a big deal.

Another blu-ray disc would've required greater installation as well.

If downloading a 20gb patch has changed your reason to buy it, then I honestly suggest you start rethinking all of your purchasing habits.

You were already going to drop 460+tax on this so its obviously not a data cap issue that's for sure.
Its not a data cap issue, i just wanted to have a lan party on day one with 7-8 of my buddies and be a part of the launch madness. Now we are all gonna sit there for multiple hours while 8 of us download 20gb's each on the same internet connection. Sounds like a great lan party.

Um if you preorder digital, you will download the 20gb patch before it releases.

Well, as someone who has slow internet the 2 disc option would have been much preferable, and I don't think it would have really bothered anyone (even if they have fast internet) to switch the disk once during installation.

So have your lan party on day two.

But the data caps, think of the data caps

Can patches be transfered / copied from console to console?

Oops yeah, sorry, that does suck for those with data caps. Forgot. I don't have a cap so doesn't affect me but perhaps they should have included 2 blu-rays to be more accessible instead. They could've used 2 blu-rays to install and 1 blu-ray to run the game I'm sure.

Pretty sure just one of you has to download it, and then you can all transfer to each others consoles via external storage.

(can anybody confirm this?)

So all of your buddies, that like to play LAN of Halo, will not buy the Chief collection because of this?

I cant speak for everyone, but those who I know and play Halo on LAN are the most hardcore fans, and will not blink to download 20gb to have access to this game and just postpone the LAN party for a different day.

Yes you can copy data instead of moving it. In theory one of them could download the digital game and the copy it to multiple external drives at the same time days before release and then everyone could be ready asap.

Yeah i can do something like that, this will require a little coordination. Hope i can get another day off

I understand it, doing LAN parties and get together 8 people is really hard now a days. hope everything turns out good, I really believe this 20gb installation shouldnt be a decisive factor if you are buying the game or not (from the point of view of longtime fans).

Lol. You may have unintentionally made me re-think buying digitally with that line. See? We don't disagree about everything.
343 will probably just fuck the pistol up anyway. JOKING!
Didn't think you'd stoop as low as to try to get in bed with me by using the one thing I love as a way in.. The Bungie you love is the same Bungie that's denied this love for all those years and spouted similar nonsense over the years, frequently labeling their most hardcore, most loyal fanbase as the "vocal minority."

Shameful.

Besides the internet issues, isn't this update basically going to kill the online multiplayer population? The vast majority of normal people don't have the speed or bandwidth to just grab a 20gb download on a whim.

Combine split game playlists, the lower install base of a new system, and a huge mandatory update to get online...it just seems like a recipe for disaster. Probably gonna be a ghost town.

Wow you have a Xbox One?
but dat post history tho

Dude, it's been well known.

Plus I'll remind you the same thing that I reminded digoutyoursoul in the other thread: Be careful who you judge. Because the moment you start slipping up, it'll come back to bite on you, just like it came back on BeforeU not too long ago:

just looked at your post history. You seems to always claim you have Xbox One don't know why you have brag about that and most of your post are anti MS, and pro Sony. I don't think you even care about Halo, so my question is why are you posting hatred here. Are you even going to buy this game?

The same can be asked of you - there are people who have come out and stated it affects them, yet you seem to dismiss/ridicule them as you defend 343/Microsoft.

You get my drift? Good.

I understand their ambition but it's going to leave a lot of people in tough situation. Given the numerous games we've had last gen with two discs, perhaps 343 could have done the same, albeit incurred additional cost in production.
20GB you say??!!
well, tough luck motherfucker!!

GTFO. by this argument all of PC online aka Steam would be a ghost town. Don't be idiotic. Most people who broadband game will be able to download this.

It might be a bit low during the first few hours after the game is launched but I highly doubt it will be a "ghost town". Positive there will a decent amount of people who will already have the game pre-loaded by the time it launches.

Wow, look at you getting all riled up. lol

That's not the same thing at all. I'm talking about your average Joe console gamer that plays a few pick up games every now and then.

Nope. Not including all the content in a physical release and charging the exact same price point for the digital version which includes said content is most decidedly anti-consumer. Any way you slice it.

I'll keep waiting for somebody to tell me how this is pro consumer. Nobody wants to tackle that one though.

How about you get off your high horse, and understand that for some it isn’t an issue and for others it is. Stop trying to use childlike black and white logic to push your obvious reason to drive-by post and somehow act like you’re defending everybody’s rights.

I'm on a high horse? I don't see you calling out any of the many others here who are riding much taller horses than me and displaying cavalier Adam Orth type attitudes just because they are more fortunate in regard to location/internet. Is it because you agree with them? Pretty ironic and hypocritical.

How about addressing some of the valid concerns I raised? I have already re-quoted them and.... crickets. Drive by posts! Too funny. Somebody else was bitching about my post count, yeah, sure, they were all drive-bys.

Really? People buy physical games to AVOID downloading 20GB+ of content. And what does download caps have to do with playing Halo? What about people that want to have LAN parties?
LAN parties without a good internet connection? Heck i live in Italy AKA third world and i will just wait some hours before playing, there is absolutely no issues except for these bandwidth caps, and you should just change your ISP
