Went to the Studio Bones showcase today which featured two episodes of Space Dandy followed by a Q+A with President Minami.

Episodes show were 4 and 20 (zombies and rock)
First episode was rather dull although I'll give it some applause for actually doing something sort of interesting with zombies for the second half.
Second episode was a bit better and I got some laughs out of it but it's kind of annoying to see normal everyday ideas used in a sci-fi setting even if they can afford to go over the top with them.

Q+A session didn't really provide anything in particular of note but here's a few choice points:
- With regards to Escaflowne and Eureka Seven Movies being different while Cowboy Bebop was part of the "series": the impression was he didn't really find the story of the movie of Escaflowne to be widely different from the series but didn't really expand on this reasoning. For Eureka Seven, he said that as long as the key areas of Renton are Eureka were there, he felt they could do different things and it would still be Eureka Seven.
Cowboy Bebop was a "complete" series so the only way to go about a movie was to fit it into the series at some point.

- Someone asked about the co-founder of Bones who died 8 years or so ago and if he felt they'd managed to find a replacement. He said he still misses him and feels that gap can't really be "filled". He looked genuinely choked up about this.

- Working under Tomino at Sunrise; he never really had any bad experiences with Tomino despite his reputation but speculates this might be because they have the same blood type so when he was angry, he knew why Tomino was angry.

- Left out ideas for Space Dandy; would have liked to have done an hot springs ep with mixed bathing but would have been filled with aliens. When questioned why when every anime under the sun has such an episode, he joked that that way, he could have gone to an onsen for research purposes in the same way that he and the team visited several Hooters bars for research for the Boobies restaurant.

Edit: Oh and he wore a replica Dandy jacket like is seen in the show.

Time of Eve movie tomorrow. Excited and annoyed by this - excited because I've only seen the series and annoyed because I've still yet to receive the Blu-ray of the movie. Oh well. Apparently it's sold out which is nice.

Did you ever write about Cagliostro?

FATE STAY NIGHT UBW - 02

i have been spoiled by 45 mins episodes ..

but well aside form small changes, nods to FATE/ZERO, 200% irony and such ..at least i had "this"

1413651342624.gif

blushing & surprised rin ? Allofmywant

So it wasn't that bad.

FSN UBW 02

Yeah this is about what I expected from a faithful adaptation of this part of the VN. At least there's always some enjoyment to be had when Kotomine says, well, just about anything.

And it's still better than F/Z's first episode.

For me the first episode wasn't so bad, as it switched around between all the different participants, the different masters and servants, and presented a (for me then) new and intriguing situation.
In FSN UBW the focus is much smaller in characters and scope but they still invested a big amount of time in setup and exposition, resulting in slow boring moments.

Did you ever write about Cagliostro?
No I didn't!

It was a combination of i)I've been busy these last two days after watching it and too tired to write anything and ii) for something like this, I feel my poor attempts at writing something about something that's already been talked about by people far better than I, seemed like a fruitless endeavour.

I did however enjoy it very much and thank you (and Narag I guess) for pushing me to watch it.

Log Horizon Season 2 Ep 3

This show really does present mmorpgs extremely well. Even with all the info dump it was never boring. The characters are numerous but they are all really interesting and distinct. This show continues to impress me.

SAO 2 15
I can't take this slice of lifey opening scene seriously at all. I guess they were creative with that animal thing. I guess catgirl Sinon is the closest thing to this arc's saving grace because the plot so far seems awful

Scooby Doo level of humor in this show (subs are purely for display purposes)

Glass Fleet - 02
People in this show sure like having metaphor laden faux-philosophical conversations! Vetti and his relationship with Ralph is REALLY creepy and it's amsung how Michelle Michel finds it hard to believe Cleo's ambitions to overthrow the empire with a small band of rebels....when that's what she he is attempting to do herself himself.

Gundam Episode 1: G....G...G

MC is soooo annoying, half the dialogue is filled with techno babble, alien girl is already annoying with her ggggggg and the story really did nothing to captivate the viewer. I'm not familiar with the Gundam series but from the only series I have watched, Gundam 00, I remember the opening episode being so much better. I remember wanting to watch the next episode straight away. The only highlight was the art style (?) which looked nice. Why should I watch episode 2? Why was the OT dedicated to this? Are people disappointed by it or did it live up to the "hype"?

Drop it, it's crap. The only people who like it are Tomino Apologists.

Pocket Monsters Best Wishes 7:
Satoshi capturing all three starters? I see we've regressed back to the original series. Whatever happened to each character having one of them (or I guess Satoshi having two like in Diamond and Pearl, which was still better). Satoshi's character also continues to get butchered, as they really have reduced his competence compared to Diamond and Pearl. This show is kind of bumming me out, and this relatively boring episode all centered around catching Tsutarja didn't help.

Still, there are some good things here. Iris and Dent are great supporting characters, although Iris constantly saying "such a child" is getting a bit tiring. I'm enjoying the main cast interactions reasonably well. I'm also glad that the writers finally remembered that Satoshi captured Mamepato and let it out of its monster ball. The best part of the show remains the music, which is really the only standout element to this series. Everything else just makes me miss the real Satoshi and Rocket Gang. I'm ready to get rid of these imposters already.

Amagi Brilliant Park 01-03

To all who come to this happy place, should probably go to DisneySea instead. I've never seen FMP, and don't plan to, but I like KyoAni and I like theme parks, plus the whole zeitgeist thing. The idea of the Magic Kingdom being an actual magic kingdom works for me, but as far as the characters go, my favorite is the Elementario four. They're the closest thing I have to the Celestial Maiden Squad from Momo Kyun now that that's off the air. All four of them are pretty great, I can't choose a favorite.

The origins of everyone's names is amusing, mostly for the oddity of something so outside Japan's culture being referenced in it. When comparing Seiya to Sora, I prefer Sora more. Honey over vinegar, and all that. I like the opening and the ending. The mascots being cynical and actual mascots is an interesting twist, but I already have Rabbit and Bear being cute and scheming over in PriPara, and that show's had longer to make an impression on me - Moffle's relation to Latifah does make him sympathetic underneath all that punching.

I like it, it's just not my favorite show of the season. Sitting somewhere comfortably in the high-middle.

And if I were to choose an alternate title for the show, I'd go with If Her Six Flags Were Broken

Shirobako isn't bad, but at the same time I feel like it could strive to be a lot more than what it is.

The show doesn't really offer much of interest besides the basic premise, and if that is already mostly acknowledged then it is hard to keep on watching.

I keep wondering if there could have been a more interesting way to present the idea of going behind the scenes of production. For now, it seems almost like they don't really care that much, as long as they get to show as many aspects of their work as possible.

I'm not sure what you mean by this.

If you're not enjoying it, that's fine, but I don't think saying that they don't really care that much is way off base. There's so much care being put into Shirobako that it's kind of blowing my mind. The show looks gorgeous, it's well directed, and the writing is really strong and putting a lot of work into showing a variety of different aspects of the production as well as all of the personalities involved. The pacing has also been incredibly tight. I think there's clearly a lot of love being put into this show from everyone who is working on it.

[Fate/Stay Night] - Episode 2 but really episode 3 although considering the length of previous episodes this is more like episode 5

I sure love listening to Nakata talk, but this was really boring stuff that everyone knows already. Even people who've only ever watched this particular series! The only idiot appears to be Shirou, our prota-gonist. Great.

My Little Monster 12-13 END

If Natsume had a better personality, she would be a generic shoujo heroine. So I'm kind of glad shes an idiot at times and is just a crazy person overall. Makes her more lovable.

I thought episode 13 was a waste but overall the series was awesome. Really funny at times and the characters were pretty great. In real life Haru would probably serve life in prison for abduction, stalking, sexual harassment and the like but I guess hes sorta charming in his own weird, hilarious way.

Devoured the rest of the manga a little while ago. Loved it.

Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete 3

A much better ep than II as it addresses the points of episode 1. This ep confirms Yui is from the future, and might even be Airi's daughter or something -- as they look too similar and share some traits. Plus she was all over Airi and Sou in episode 2. The date is still only 10/8 though and Kaori dies on 10/14 at 4:22 PM, so I wonder if it will be like Steins;Gate where they can't escape fate without changing world lines or something. Anyways, it's a very interesting and intriguing show -- though the first ep was still the strongest.

Fate/stay Night 02

Hooray for normal length episodes! Boo for non stop infinite talking!
Why does Rin randomly change emotions? Is this one of those "sun-dairies" I've heard so much about? Then why is she being like that towards Shirou who has like nothing to get hot over
All Shirou does is ask questions and repeat the last thing the person he is talking to said.
Is he...
IS HE SOLID SNAKE??

Log Horizon 2 03

c7b6ff56fd.jpg

I'm hyperventilating just looking at the map for this

You can run from Raid Bosses in this game? That's pretty forgiving.
Yeah this season isn't as good as the first. Won't drop it but I'll just continue to hope it gets better.

Sword Art Online II 15

OP is okay besides -

STOP DOING THAT
ED is haremific.

So the first thing we see of Asuna is her in the bath covering her naughty bits while thinking of Kirito-kun.
Nice
We're back in fairy fuck land, but it was a decent opening episode. I liked the explanation for the Excalibur thing, although I imagine the queen lady is lying or something.

Also Klein is totally a part of the harem now, look at this guy

I asked a Co-worker of mine if she watched anime, she didn't have that great of an opinion on it,(all the same, etc)

The last thing she was told to watch was SAO
I've planted the Log Horizon seeds, time shall tell if she will STRUGGLE IN THE DATABASE

Started watching Katanagatari because of that gif posted a few pages back. Is every episode an hour?
It's pretty great, was caught a bit off guard from the extreme amount of talking, but I don't mind it.

Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works Episode 2:

For fuck sakes, can I be done with the tutorial level already, I watched Fate.Zero, I know this shit, I don't need the redundant remedial course.

They kind of really soft-balled it with the choice of episodes - I mean, I'm pretty sure they only went with the Zombie episode because one of the mercenaries at the start had a comedy Scottish accent...

As far as the QA went, I was pretty amused that JC actually brought up Blue Blazes with him.

-edit- did you go see Giovanni before hand, or did you just go for Bones?

Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works - 02

So, we finally out of exposition yes? Boring episode was boring, well, I did like seeing Kirei again, but nonetheless it was boring.

Mostly just a bunch of talking this episode, but necessary for people that haven't watched Fate/Zero or anything else. Looks like it'll pick up next episode, though.

I wonder if Kotomine's "explanation" of Fate/Zero's ending is just him being salty. But I guess his explanation would make sense in context of the result.

I was considering it but decided against it. I've heard mostly good things about it but just couldn't muster enthusiasm for it.

Ah, fair enough - I certainly know the feeling, having sat on an unwatched DVD copy of Grave of the Fireflies for over a dozen years at this point. Similar kind of thing with Giovanni, in that it's probably a movie you don't really want to watch it you aren't in the mood for it. It's probably not as bad as Grave, but it is pretty heavy. Aside from the Bones QA and Time of Eve tomorrow, it was probably the only thing showing at the festival which was especially worthwhile this year (kind of assuming the mystery film is Short Peace at this point)

I'm sitting on a full set of short handed notes for the Bones QA here. Maybe I'll type them up tomorrow and Pastebin them or something, but I think Mr.Jeff has covered everything particularly interesting already (I stayed on to suffer through Appleseed Alpha a second time, and enjoy the Bebop movie), so probably not worth the time.

I think it just means that ufotable tends to make faithful adaptations, and as a tremendously long visual novel, Fate/Stay Night has a lot more exposition than Fate/Zero.

I'm just kind of glad that at least they're not adapting for the people who wanted the church scene to have the same music as the visual novel. It's okay for things to be different sometimes.

Hanayamata 08

Time for dieting and training then.

There's the first public performance as well, but everything goes wrong. And, heh... Unexpected sister reveal for the teacher. Doesn't seem like they're friends at all. Guess it's a setup for more drama.

They cut decent chunk of F/Z and other made adjustment "for more suitable to the media" though.

My complaint for the church is only why they think the church looks better with not had any electricity, ufo pls.
