Halo: The Master Chief Collection will have a 20GB day one "content update".

Fuck, 30 pages. Good lord.

You would think an install disc for the 20GB content would be a no brainer here. It can't have to do with the game because whether that 20GB of content is delivered via a download or an install is irrelevant. It's delivered. Surely MS can afford the couple of cents each Blu-ray Disc will cost.

MS likely doesn't have multidisc or installing non-executable installable packages (ie linking two separate installs together) ready yet, or even in planning stages yet.

It would be extremely low priority due to devs not maximizing the space in majority of cases. This package is a special case scenario with an obscene amount of content.

343 probably would have liked to have included an install disc, but they can't directly action anything outside of a patch until the OS is updated.

This is not due to laziness or cheapness on anyone's part. It's just unfortunate timing.

There you go, starting some drama already. I did say, "I think (correct me if wrong)," because I was assuming these things because of the post from ambar_hitman that I quoted, & I even told the posters that.

You always like to start shit with me for no reason other than to annoy me, & it's getting old. Drop it.

You've got a hell of a lot of nerve acting like you're a victim here. Like clockwork, as soon as something negative shows up for anything Xbox/MS related, you show up to add your "voice of reason" to the discussion.

Your post history in this thread alone has you backing up posters who claim that this is lazy, greedy, or anti-consumer.

Give it a rest already. Your schtick is known.

So I'm assuming the 20GB content patch will be available before release, since Dan Ayoub said we could pre-load it, so why not let EVERYONE pre-load the content patch?

Also why is MCC pre-load only 44.5GB? Store said it was 45.6GB for me.
You can download the BF4 patches in the marketplace for instance. I'll go with Frankie since he's pretty adamant about his stance and I haven't worked on the game myself.

But I do wonder why people can't just download the patch right now even without buying digital.

Or maybe the answer is clear and my 2 days of no sleep is catching up to me.

Wow, that's interesting. TIL.

They have no place gaming nor any form of media rich service. Why the hell would you put yourself on a cap unless you have no money, if that is the case then priorites need to be assesed with gaming being so costly. Unlimited internet is cheap so I doubt that is the case.

This is so incredibly ignorant. You are joking, right?

OF course I feel bad for people who will have some problem loading the patch, but honestly any Internet connection should be able to load it quickly.

But Stinkles said it best.

People who are clamoring again how MS is anticonsumer with this action are probably the most dumb people on this forum, especially funny how some of them are people who never expressed their want for the collection in any of the previous threads and just seem to want to make some distress.

I assume the store size includes the Nightfall download?

Yeah but it and the skull pre-order are 20mb combined, nowhere near the 1.1GB extra. My friend's pre-loading and has the same download size so probably a store hiccup. Just wanted to make sure that mine downloaded correctly, since a few are having MCC pre-load issues.

Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.
You sure? A GAF member and friend was going to a Edelman Hosted MCC event

Nightfall is a Halo Channel Stream is it not?

Is it a stream or download.? I am not sure. I hope its full HD download.

It was like 10mb

Yeah then its probably just rights, or whatever. Which gives you access to play it through Halo Channel. So not everyone can play it since Halo Channel will be available for everyone but Nightfall is only for people who bought MCC

Oh yeah, I read your post as 44.6 gb for the store version and so thought it was only a 0.1 increase.

That is odd... Maybe it's factoring in possible save file sizes...? I've no idea really, probably just an error.

No need to call bs. Anything is feasible, it simply wasn't practical for this product, this year in this timeline. The Xbox One platform continues to improve and mature, arguably faster and more meaningfully than others and maybe next year two discs or some other method would have been the right approach, but this year it's the option we have available that on balance, makes the most sense for this giant, ambitious project.

Do I understand the inconvenience and annoyance for some users? Of course. I'm not going to blow smoke or ignore it.

For some folks it will be straight up annoying and I both apologize unreservedly for the irritance, and hope that the package and the way it works more than makes up for it.

I've been playing the whole enchilada for a week now and the ability to sample, jump from aspect to aspect, customize with skulls and playlists has been absolutely addictive and mesmerizing.

I think I would have enjoyed a box set with the same fidelity, but the way it all connects has for me at least, made it more than the sum of its parts.

So while there are a couple of warriors in here with redundant agendas and concern trolls, I also get that 20 gigs is a fair old chunk of bits and it is not ideal. Most players will have a smooth and happy experience. The game will launch (including digital version) before installation is complete, so there is plenty of content to play around in while the red installs.

And we are continuing to look at ways to reduce that inconvenience.

I personally have pretty lame internet and I am doing everything via wifi, but my installation and immediate play were all pretty buttery.
So the 20 gig patch is out? When will people who have preloaded start downloading it?

.

I think for a lot of the frustrations come because the inconvenience seems like it could have been planned for or resolved better, though can understand that might have not necessarily be 343's fault. Gamers are used to the idea of having more than one disk to install content, but not the idea that a nearly a third of the game has to be downloaded, especially for as large as 20gb. For those of us with poor internet/bandwidth limits its disappointing to find this has been considered the best solution. I also feel like the split of content should have been done differently to have multiplayer available from the start for at least some parts of the collection.

It would be great if 343 could push MS to offer a way to download this ahead of time for disk users and not just digital pre orders.

Best solution I can think of is that when you pre-order a physical copy you get a code ala pre-order DLC to download the 20GB patch ahead of time. That way people with the physical copy can get a head start on that download and won't be swamped with it come launch.

They could just let anyone download the patch from the store. The patch will be useless if the person doesn't have the rest of the game that you have to buy, so there's no reason to restrict who can download it.

They could, but attaching a code to the physical version ensures people who are actually intending to buy the game are the ones downloading the sense. Doesn't make sense for MS to waste space/bandwidth/whatever by putting it out for everyone to download.

Thanks for posting this. I personally am not affected by the patch and I am very grateful that this product exists.

I wish there was a better way, but oh well. I'll be playing this game for years.

It's too late to attach codes to existing preorders. The logistics in making sure everyone received their codes would be a nightmare. Just make it available to everyone.

Move it all to an external? That's what I did with all my games, they're on my 4TB external so I can take them to my friend's house and we can play anything I own.

Can't you do this by installing to an external harddrive?

I meant specifically the content update. If it is like DLC on the hdd it will probably live separately. The disc is the easy part to install.

Thanks fit more incite Frank.
Is the CU download initialized from the gui?
Because I thought on Xbox One the first thing on boot abs install was to check for updates. Alot of people want to install and jump right into coop campaign. If everyone has to download the competitive online content first that will set plans back.

I have 30 down Internet with no caps (that I know about). It will be a minute annoyance, but in the long run I will be fine with it.

Hopefully if we need to save a little space we can delete the Collection but keep the CU.

I don't care what you think of me, because I "don't act like I'm a victim." I'm sure you're no angel here, either.

Also, don't be singling me out here, just because I'm putting out my opinions about Microsoft fucking up, or are not putting their consumers at heart first. There are plenty of posters out here who think that way as well.

If you don't like what I say, or if you can't say anything nice, then don't fucking bother posting to me at all. Period. You, Louis, or anyone else. I'm sick of this shit.

So people are only allowed to respond to you if they agree with you? Get of your high horse dude.

Good thing I am doing digital to start with. With patches and updates is there any reason to think disc only play is ideal anymore? Games are never going to be truly complete the day you buy the disc ever again.

I'm tired of posters around here treating me like garbage just because I have certain opinions. Enough is enough. How would they feel if they were treated the same way? How about they give me the respect that I give them?

Ask yourself that same question when you call the developers greedy, or anti-consumer as they read through the thread.

All I said was, is that the way that Microsoft did it is crappy & lazy. And everyone else around this thread is saying the same thing (or worse). But you & some other posters here like to single me out & start bashing me just because it's convenient for you & some other posters out here. OK.

yessir fully agree. kind of booty everyone who didn't preorder digitally cannot download this as soon as it hits.

cause other retailers had better preorder incentives

Oh my goodness. What in the world is going on in here...

Boy oh boy -- anyway, it seems like this whole situation maybe (and I'm assuming) due to the possibility that the Xbox One can't treat two installed discs as one item or in this case, one game. Guessing that functionality will come soon (that is, if it isn't there already) but who would have thought that a game at this early point of the gen would already be more than the size of one blu-ray disc? So yeah, I'm thinking the 20 GB content download was the only way to get around it as of right now.

I could be wrong though of course but I just remember how basic the Xbox One was at launch in comparison to now and how some very basic features that weren't there at launch.

From Stinkles post, that seems to be the case.

Crappy and lazy huh.

Also, this is the first time I've addressed you. I don't know why you'd include me in this drama. Unless your implying it's wrong to discuss things on a discussion board and disagree with someone. In that case, guilty as charged.

I'm sorry that I went off on you like that, & I apologize, because it's not your fault.

All I'm asking from posters everywhere here, is to start treating me fairly, & with respect. If people are gonna start bashing me for saying what I said, then start getting on other posters for doing the same thing as well.

Respect, & equal/fair treatment. That's all I ask.

There are much more respectful ways to go about it though. It's a give respect get respect back sort of thing.

It's okay to be upset about this, he'll stinkles agrees with you that it's not an ideal situation, but I don't think you went about it the best way, which is why you see so many giving you shit.
